Mecanoo, officially founded in Delft in 1984, is made up of a highly multidisciplinary staff of creative professionals from 25 countries. The team includes architects, interior designers, urban planners, landscape architects as well as architectural technicians and support staff.
Mecanoo is led by Francine Houben (Creative Director & Founding Partner), Floris Overheul (Financial Director), Dick van Gameren (Design & Research Partner), and Partners/Architects Nuno Fontarra, Rick Splinter and Arne Lijbers.
Mecanoo has extensive experience designing and realising exceptional buildings which serve client ambitions while creating vibrant end-user spaces. Each project responds to our philosophy of People, Place, Purpose, Poetry: to the client’s requirements and the user’s needs (People); the physical context, climate and culture (Place); and the current and predicted potential of a building’s function (Purpose), creating designs that touches all the senses (Poetry).
I visit the SNFL often. I am glad to see many improvements. That said, in the time that it took to rebuild this building entire cities may have been built in China, starting from zero. So, don't pat yourselves on the back... Another thing: There used to be at least a pretense that the library was taking measures to avoid theft (there was some superficial checking at the exit). None of that remains. I have no doubt that many items were stolen from the shelves since the re-opening.
What a Horrid Building it looks like a giant shoe box... honestly who are these talentless arrogant morons that design and build these things? Look at the absolutely gorgeous white stone Baskerville house next door and the timeless memorial hall... both beautifully hand built with skill all those years ago and then you have this heap of crap next-door to it. disgusting.
It was Dr. Raphael Lemkin a human rights lawyer who in 1944 defined the term "genocide". He presented the genocide of Ukrainians perpetrated by Soviet Bolshevik communists in four stages. The Holodomor Genocide 1932 -33 (death by starvation of the Ukrainian peasantry), the extermination of the Ukrainian intelligentsia, the destruction of the Ukrainian Orthodox church its parishes and clergy and the mass deportations of ethic Ukrainians from the territory of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic to remote and extreme areas of the Soviet Union and Gulag concentration camps. With the suppression of the Ukrainian language, arts and culture Ukraine became a Russified soviet satellite republic. It was the Ukrainians who showed the greatest resistance to soviet communism demonstrated by the hundreds of peasant uprisings and dissident movements and as a consequence it was the Ukrainians who suffered the most repression during the Soviet Union's reign of terror which resulted in millions of deaths. Estimates go as high as ten million victims. This is not common knowledge in the UK for some strange reason. Not taught in British schools and not commemorated alongside other genocides of Holocaust Memorial Day. Britain in fact has refused to officially recognise the genocide of Ukrainians on several occasions. Will Home be having another "communism is coming Home" celebration" ?
It is just a name for the Library like Birmingham Airport a short while ago was called Birmingham International Airport as is now just called Birmingham Airport.
in this video it is mentioned that four buildings including a hotel and a commercial building will complete the masterplan, what are the other two buildings? and are they also be designed by Mecanoo or just a masterplan zoning? Thank you
We would have had a better video but much like Skolkovo, 90% of the money has gone missing into a few bank accounts including one to Mr Pootin. No idea who that is.
John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
So what would you like it to look like a concrete box or an upside down concrete pyramid like the last public Library in the City Center or the ugly old library, but it seems nothing pleases people.
@@robertozeladarodriguez5321 This new Library is the largest public Library in Europe and looks nothing like a Box !!, it is definately not ugly on the outside and is far superior to the last Central Library it replaced and definately better than the old original brick victorian Library, the inside is vast containing the largest collection of Shakespears works out side of London and a roof Gardern and wgen you see it in the flesh it is an amazing looking modern building
@@peterwilliamallen1063 "I functionally highlight it; I know it's the largest and the importance of the books it contains, but unfortunately, its exterior objectively doesn't fit into its surroundings. They're boxes with a metal framework.
@@robertozeladarodriguez5321 Concidering you seem not to live in the UK, you don't know much about our library and where it is situated, it is the largest municiple library in Europe and it actually does fit in nicely with it's sarroundings and it looks nothing like a box even if it did most buildings are built like boxes and the Central Library it replaced was a concrete structure that was like an upside down pyramid, sorry as a Brummie it is a manificent looking building that fits in well with it's sarroundings in Birmingham
