After meeting in New Zealand back in 2017, Jake and Beth have travelled the world, working online and creating memories.
Beth left the UK in 2014 and has been travelling full time ever since, she is the owner of www.sheisthelostgirl.com and has a passion for writing and photography.
Jake has been travelling since 2016 and during this time has perfected his photography and videography skills. He is adventurous and has a passion for the outdoors.
Having lived in various countries around the world, we decided that instead of settling down, we'd build a tiny home inside a van. We've never done anything like this before, we have no building experience, no electrical experience, and no plumbing experience. This is a huge learning curve for us and we welcome you to join us in this challenge.
Our Wild Horizons documents a journey of continued adventure.
2024 update: I just spent two days there. You can totally skip the interior tour, it's about maximizing profit and hiding the fascinating history of the place. Spend that money instead on a walking tour of the exterior.
Hi. I was thinking about having something similar in the future but have been worried about the weight? Do you know what weight it was before the conversation and what the weight is now? Regards
Thanks for watching! Yes, we weighed it before and I believe it was 2.2 tonnes if I remember correctly. Then after it was 3.4 with full tanks and us in. We knew it would be a close call to keep it under 3.5 so everything was built with the weight in mind. All the plywood is Poplar which weighs 60% of normal ply and I built all the units using 12mm ply.
Thank you! Ooh I’m not sure of the dimensions but the “living area” from the back of the cab to the shutter is 4 meters, 2.3 meters tall inside and just over 2 meters wide. It’s 3.2 meters tall outside!
We spent around 9k on the conversion with a good chunk of that going into the electrical and heating set up ! Our previous van was converted for 4k so we knew what we could do keeping it under 10k.
It’s called a Luton van - not sure where you’re from but I don’t think they exist in America? I’m not sure of the exact dimensions but the “living area” from the back of the cab to the shutter is 4 meters, 2.3 meters tall inside and just over 2 meters wide. It’s 3.2 meters tall outside!
Probably dealing with limited water storage and finding appropriate places to refill - that’s a very UK van life issue though as in Europe we didn’t struggle at all.
It depends on how minimalist you are! We both had backpacking experiences before the van so we learnt to live with few possessions - that definitely helped!
How far in advance should someone book their place? Do the trains get full? We are looking to first travel in the opposite direction coming from Germany heading to Cornwall. I'm an American.
2 70 yr old women are we going to Mull and Iona first weeks in October without a car. Hoping to find our way walking and public transport. Any suggestions?
Wow this is so impressive!! My partner and I have just converted our first van… we were wondering how you navigated deciding if and how you would ground your inverter? We are hearing so many different opinions! We are so looking forward to seeing your next build!!
I grounded the negative bus bar (drilling through the floor and connecting to the chassis (but with a normal panel can you could use the metal of the walls) - then just fed the negative and ground cable to the negative bus bar. Hope that helps! 😊
Great Tour. Currently reworking my EHU six years ago less electric build knowledge and solutions available these days (Very neat Jake) Lots more on the net now. Had to get our shower tray fixed in Ludlow but a good job with special coating solution. (Great colour scheme Beth) Love our EDD and he has taken us to 32 countries. Hope you guys are well 🤗
Yes, there’s a fan for the toilet which goes into a carbon filter from simploo. As for ventilation, we didn’t install one and instead made sure the maxxair fan was directly outside the shower door. We thought about install a side wall vent but haven’t had the need to. Thanks for watching ☺️
Great build! Sorry to learn that you have gone your separate ways. Well done for all the beautiful videos you made together. Love to see videos of your latest van build (not everyone does Insta) i'm sure it'll be equally stunning! Bon courage as they say here in France!
Thank you very much got the kind words 😃 We certainly had many great adventures together and appreciate you watching the videos! More to come, just not together 😊
Looking for places to visit in Spainin the spring, I found this video. It’s exceptional, not just the places you went..the production and cinematic filming 🙌❤
Looks great and well worth the work. Nice straightforward explanations too. Is the paint you used as heavy duty and hard wearing as Raptor paint do you know? Thanks.
Thanks for watching! It’s called military vehicle paint and lasted over 2 years so must be pretty hard wearing but not used raptor before so can’t tell you how they compare!
Hello guys! Incredible videos. We are getting inspired for our next travel to Turkey next week. Thank you very much. And we hope you will post more vegan food videos! The one in Istanbul was great and useful. Have a great time! 💚 🌱
Sadly almost no "hidden" gems, only spots you find on every sightseeing list online. Thumbs up for the great video quality. Allthough i had a hard time understanding some words
wow. i have to admit that is pure ingenuity! that is the way to go.. you need to construct as many as you can then sell them.. lovely innovations. keep up.
If you do that, always have the top “frame” lay on the legs. Sorry for my Swenglish! Its surdier then and lighter, don’t have to make so much support. Hope it makes sense. Best composting toilet I’ve seen made by Craftsman on the lake, Elegant minimalism Game of thrones. Just saying. Keep up your videos I will keep looking! Good video!
God DAMN I love your video.. your amazing.. thank you, I hope you have many more like it in different places. I have gone 10x to Mallorca, and I am not a good traveler, so I really saw very little compared to you. Maybe it would be good to have a chat with some of the locals. Your video looks so good, I want to live there and I know how bad it is in the summer. Way too hot and way too many people. lots of smelling locations, Magaluff stinks. I am glad I did it when I was young, no more for me.
What a great and informative video! Did you have any issues with being blonde and female? I heard a few years ago that this could attract unwanted attention..
