GroundUP Music was created to serve as an artistic oasis in the ever-changing world of independent music. The label was founded in 2012 by our leader Michael League who started GroundUP as a new home for his band Snarky Puppy. Michael quickly built "additions" on to his new home and invited a circle of musicians and friends to move in as well. The goal is now to continue to build from the "Ground Up" and foster our guiding beliefs and ideas and to harness the power of music to help influence listener's emotions, behaviors and occasionally morals.
That keyboard line in the beginning reminded me of Holst"s Jupiter piece from the planets. I wonder if thats intentional, I mean Jupiter isnt quite massive enough to be considered a dwarf star but its in the ballpark, some consider it a faild star, great track tho
After listening to the alternate takes, it just left me craving for this version. Cory's solo truely ascends above, it's so good you forget you're even listening to music. It just sounds like a big play between everyone's energy in that room and the people listening to the record. The fact sound itself can alter the state of mind is crazy, and Cory (w/ Snarky Puppy) just did that!
Snarky puppy is for sure my most favorite band. I love all of the songs they make and I love their care for every single detail in the song. As much as they can make a song with a funky groove or something fast with an impressive song, I love it most when they create a slower paced song that’s filled with so much beauty, so much passion, and so much emotion. Not only behind the sound, but the improvisation with the solos. This song is a wonderful reminder of why I love this band so much, and I’m excited for what their next album will be like
Man this video, song, and/or "I wanna meet your parents" moment _never_ get old 😘👌 This whole album is a masterpiece & feels like it was a big turning point for me and _(it seemed like to me at least)_ non-sung music & what a band of musos could do to really make something for more people than just _"other musos"_ - big difference between "insider baseball" and a really great game of _actual_ baseball, after all
OMG so much music emerging here from a common tune in common time. Starting with the brilliant arrangement by Louk Boudesteijn -- rhythmic and metric ambiguity textures by exploring the duality of duples and triples with a luscious sax quintet using a flute instead of a soprano sax. The wind players' blend in this performance is perfect. The piano solo was an extension of the same musical conversation taking place, but just via inspired improvisation. And of course -- the most captivating of them all -- Lucy Woodward and her angelic voice transforms this song via complete re-imagination, taking it to a completely new place using only the same words and lyrics and melody pitches as the original. Wonderful production 😎
Thank you for bringing angklung into your play. Although that's not the way we usually shake the angklung, but it's still very well appreciated. This song's got a special place in my heart forever
When people ask me what I want as a super power, I would say time travel, to be able to attend this song live in the audience. Holy crap this is insane, Larnell Lewis is an absolute boss amongst all those genius
