We're Jeremy & Cara, an American couple who have developed a love of British culture and way of life. It all started with making videos about trying different British foods and treats that our friends brought us over from England in 2018.
We took our first trip to the UK in 2022 and loved the experience so much that we've now been 3 times, including spending 6 months in Great Britain in 2023. From visiting magnificent places like Cornwall, exploring historic cities like Chester, shopping at M&S for the first time, or trying iconic British foods like fish and chips, we've fallen for the unique experiences and culture the UK offers.
We don't know when our next trip will be (hopefully soon) but until then, we'll continue making videos trying more British foods, reminiscing about our adventures, and celebrating our love for Old Blighty.
Subscribe so you don't miss the next video and let us know what other British adventures you'd like to see us make a video about!
HOLY F***! How bad are American trains - and transport system in general- if our's is talked about this positively. I need to make a VERY IMPORTANT WARNING! To all that come to our shores- these lovely people have came across a very special one time event where it all 'worked'. Look at these events as you would view a total eclipse - this could very well have been a one time event and these people are truly blessed. Everything about our transport is well and truly f*cked! You will encounter circumstances where it is impossible to put logical reason as to why your bus just isn't moving, those that you would expect to inform you what the F was going on will look at you as if you had been enemies for life and walk away. Or, even more disturbingly - no one that you would think to ask "what's going on" to - just will not be there, look at these times as a chance to engage in a team building exercise with your fellow Brit passengers as we all get together and try and figure what the actual f*ck is going on and how the actual f*ck do we get where we need to be?
All tipping here is at your own discretion, tip if you have had good service. As to speech differences two things that absolutely drive me mad are 'gotten' and all words with double t or single t are pronounced as double d. Wader in stead of water ect. How on earth do your children learn to spell correctly?
Im an American who has lived in the UK for a couple of years if you add up a few of my longer recent visits but on the Electric Kettle front, I find that in Asia where I have lived full-time since the 90s there is a better solution. In my home we have a water boiler on the kitchen counter which you fill up with water, ours takes about 3 litres (Quarts for the Americans) and after initially boiling it, it maintains said water at 95℃ (again for the Americans, that's just a couple degrees short of re-boiling) this makes re-boiling for additional cups of tea which is even more prevalent in China than it is in the UK. Living in China my taste in tea is a little different as I don't have a favorite "Brand" instead I have a favorite regional tea. Pu'er. I also love Barley tea.
Europeans use cars less than Americans, if that were true then why are cities like Berlin, Paris, Rome and London overwhelmed with car traffic? I lived in Ireland and if you dont have a car you are trapped.. Per capita Switzerland has more private gun ownership than the US.
On the subject of kettles, all British Army tracked armoured vehicles have had a piece of kit called the BV - Boiling Vessel - i.e. a kettle since the Centurion. Hot water for drinks (tea), food, washing etc etc. When the Americans saw this in British tanks, they were very impressed. I believe the latest versions of the Abrams now have them!
It may seem strange, but there are actually a few good reasons for the floor and ceiling gaps in restrooms stall. Floor gaps are helpful for cleaning/sanitary reasons in that you get better air circulation, mopped floors dry faster. Also, there can be only one or two floor drains instead of needing one in each stall. It’s also easier to tell if someone has collapsed in the stall if you can look at the floor. Ceiling gaps help with lightning and sprinkler system efficiency. In fact, I think the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) has requirements regarding floor and ceiling gaps.
Love your vid but have to remind you that you have enjoyed a holiday in England ......which is not..... .the Uk. We have across here 4 different countries which make up the so called Uk. England, Wales, Eire and Scotland which all have different flags for 4 different countries all beautiful but all different and not all English as some/ lots of peeps think 👍
i didnt watch tv for my first 3 years in london .... i got introduced to the battle cruiser ,then would go for a ruby or the chippy sometimes pie mash ..but i came to old school london in the 90s had to learn cockney slang fast lol....
Roast potatoes could do with being bigger. And if you like Yorkshire puddings you should do a Toad In the Hole recipe. But definitely best gravy is using the cooking juices from the Meat 👍 Good to see you trying British cooking, just came across your channel and looks like you had a good time travelling 👍
I have never, ever seen anybody digging for the meat under the crust. The crust is the best part. You just turn it around, grab the crust and take it off, then you can cut into the meat. And bite the crust, or leave it if you don't like it. Same with the Danish pork roast if you ever go there!
I love how these two are talking about the differences but respectful and not being derrogatory. People don't have to like everything in another country, but those people who put up content with a constant whingeing mindset naturally get people's backs up. Well done you two.
I have a friend from Cali who panics every time they are in traffic here. They say that drivers there only put on their brake lights at the last minute, so they are expecting to have to jump on the brakes to come to a screeching halt every time. They also say that in the UK drivers are more cooperative than Cali, far less road rage incidents. They are amazed that people use indicators to show where they are going and slow down in plenty of time. They also experience a lot of sugar crashes when they come here, since most of the food here has lower sugar levels. Yes, they complain constantly about the lack of AC in our houses etc. I point out, we don't need it most time and we have fans if we really need it. They live in a 'nice' bit of California, there are only a couple of shooting incidents a month where they live. They also remark on how people are more willing to work with others and less likely to take offence at things. EDIT: Fixing typos.
6:37 I’d say the earlier series of Taskmaster are better. The last two or three series were a bit disappointing, like they’re running out of ideas, but go back a bit and they’re brilliant
One solution to your space issue could be boiling the carrots and parsnips and then crushing them up a bit. Not totally smooth, like mashed potato, though.
why doesn't the U.S have a high speed rail system? I think i know why, cars. American cars. For the most part no one else in the world would really buy U.S cars as they're so big and err, woefully inefficient.. not on mass anyway, so i think you have such poor public transport because you have to hold up your own car industry because otherwise, it would fail.
You MUST watch Dinnerladies! Absolute class! I think you'd find Last of the Summer Wine a bit slow... We're visiting NYC later this year; our first trip to the States. What will we do without a kettle in the hotel room?? 🫣
Did you get to see Liverpool? It has a vibrant pop culture and the Liverbirds. Home of the Beatles and many more. You must also visit Cambridge, the home of our top Universities. Cambridge has the first women’s University. And Oxford, another University town. Henley on Thames is worth a visit, especially during the boat race where Oxford & Cambridge battle it out racing boats on the Thames. It’s quite an occasion. Don’t come back just yet, our weather is appalling 😢
Fawlty Towers is an absolute classic. John Cleese was actually going through a nervous breakdown during the filming, which adds to it's authenticity and accurate description of the British psyche, it was a work of genius and it doesn't matter how many times you watch the series, you'll spot so many different idiosyncrasies on each viewing.
If you like Rowan Atkinson you MUST watch Blackadder (series 2-4, series 1 is widely accepted as pretty weak in comparison) to see a COMPLETELY different (HILARIOUS!) version of the performer to his Mr Bean character. (Mr Bean is really for kids, whilst Blackadder is DEFINITELY for grown-ups!)
