If you go back to Schwangau, the area surrounding it is called Allgaü. It is one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever see and has tons to do and try. Rent e-bikes and cycle down to Steingaden. From there you can visit the Weiskirche and surrounding areas. Truly epic scenery whether driving walking or cycling.
We went here for our honeymoon. We stayed in a hotel in the village. It was early March and it snowed! At night everything shut, no restaurants or even hotel receptions. We had the whole place to ourselves and built snowmen. We hired a car and drove to the Austrian border, where we climbed up and walked the highline179 bridge. It was a wonderful (but scary) experience.
Our Regiment had a ski hut in the mountains above a lovely place called Immenstadt in Bavaria,Learning to ski was never an option for me ,two left feet, but having a good time was , One afternoon ,off duty myself and a buddy went to town and in a short space of unremembered time we were blotto, I can vaguely remembered being put to bed by a large lady ,then waking up next to my mate next morning ,needless tro say nobody ever knew of this ,but what a fantastic thing to do ,taking care of two tommies ,I hope we remembered to pay for the room
Thank you for this Video. Good Job. We visited Mittenwald Leutschklamm Castel etc. 50 years ago .. school Trip Great Memories. Greeting from North Rhine Westphalia.
I have spent many happy holidays in Germany and Austria and these countries are a wonderful part of Europe, with many easy hiking trails. My favourite trip in Austria is from the train station at Jenbach where a small steam train takes you up into the mountains to the town of Achensee, where there is a huge mountain lake. Off the train onto a lake steamer which stops off at various landings/villages round the lake, returning to Achensee in time to get the train back to the valley. A really lovely day out (weather permitting!). Really enjoying your video, brings back memories! Almdudler, mmm!
Found you from the Dailymail article in the uk reporting on what you miss about UK. Those things would be what I’d miss ( & back bacon) if I was in the USA. Anyway - new subscriber now & enjoying dipping into your past videos. Really need to go to Bavaria now! 😊
Oh my gosh, those views! I could sit at the mountain Café allllll day! Because my husband is a veritable child, he laughed sooo much at the gondolas! 😂
So glad you made it to this beautiful area of Germany. I was very lucky to have worked in Bavaria several years ago, but have been back on holiday a couple of times. I used to drive over in my UK plated car, but driving on the wrong side of the road lol there were no problems. Are you going over the border into Austria ....well woth the trip also.
What a beautiful place its like walking in a fairytale or a living picture,Bavaria must be one of the most beautiful places in Europe, thanks for taking us on the tour virtual reality style👍🤣🤣
It's believed that Disney modelled his castles on Neuschwanstein. Looks like you've done the Romantische Strasse. As to is this the most beautiful place in Europe, it has a call for sure. But you need to check out Austria (a few miles away) and Switzerland. They are both stunning places. Edit: The Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany. The summit is actually on the border with Austria. They used to stamp passports up there. Don't know if they still do. Edit2: Bayern (Bavaria) blends modern and old in a way that is unique. It is referred to as Laptop und Lederhosen (Laptops and leather shorts)
Culture and history is a big deal to many u.s visitors but it's something many Brits take for granted. I live in Lincoln which you have visited and locals probably take for granted to the point of forgetting, that there is an almost 1000 year old castle and cathedral in the city that we walk past regularly!! Come back soon and see more !!
The dumpling are acctually not supposed to be cooked in the gulasch. Next time head it up in simmering water or cut it in round slices and fry it in a pan with butter.
You guys remind me very much of my host family that welcomed me in my teenage years to their home in the Midwest. I love them very much and invited them to visit Germany many years later when I had the means to do it. As a German, my description of what reminds me of them in you will be stereotypical in its German honesty/rudeness my host family loved to hate: You seem so kind, openminded, appreciative and slightly overweight ;). So American in a good way. Have fun.
OMG, that is where we stay. Is there a cow rug on the floor in the living room? We have rented it twice and the laundry is in the basement. A dentist is across the street with the weirdest hours. My husband was at the NATO school in Oberammergau and we go to Garmich a lot.
That dentist is an emergency dentist and when we were there at Christmas he was working late on a Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Great butcher on the corner.
I guess the parking machines were working, but what most Americans aren't aware of is the following: Card is not equal card! Most Americans use credit cards like American Express, Visa and so on. Most Germans do not. If a German pays with a card it is most likely what you would call a "debit card" instead of a credit card. A debit card is a card from your bank which accesses the associated bank account. So the money will not be "a loan" like with a credit card, but it will be deducted from your bank account immediately. Okay I cannot be sure if those parking machines weren't out of order, but my suspicion is, that they would have worked with such a debit card and simply are not made for credit cards. Edit: Wow, you discovered Almdudler! Yes it is an Austrian lemonade which entered the market at the end of the 50ies. And I love, love, love it. I buy it not often though...... because I know if I had it at my permanent disposal I would not drink anything else any more! (Despite coffee of course! LOL)
Maybe you should pay a visit to 'Burg Hohenzollern' in Baden-Württemberg, the seat of the former imperial house of Hohenzollern, ruling house of Prussia. It is a big one, in nice surroundings!
Try Black Forest! 🙂 4:10 I would probably have done the same. I'm not a fan of crowds and I'm afraid of heights. 14:15 Yes, the price is almost extortionate. I say that as a German!
Bavaria, Germany: Is this the MOST BEAUTIFUL Place in Europe -> not the only nice place in the alpes or europe, and maybe there are much more nicer outside of bavaria 😎 The "Leutascher Geisterklamm" is in Austria.
The Zugspitze is beautiful but pricier during ski season. The Partnage gorge is also a great walk. It is busy there as the military has a resort in town plus the Marshall center is an American base.
I’ve spent most time in that area in the winter, it’s a snowy wonderland that is very beautiful. Careful up the mountains, you can get sunburned up there pretty easily on a fine day, even in winter
Intersting name for the cable car at the end of the video, Im sure many English travellers would have a chuckle at the name of the cable car taking them up to the top of Zugspitze!
Its a lovely part of the world. I fully understand why the heights were terrifying, I'd be the same. I'm not sure I'd be able to walk on the grate. Its so annoying when vertigo gets you, but there is nothing you can do. I've been to Bavaria a few times with work, I keep saying I'll go back...
