51:28 wow. You echoed my own thoughts here!😅 is am the same way. We moved last year (so a similar timeline to you) and ever since i have struggled to post consistently. Due to no wifi but also because our schedule and way of life is so incredibly different to before. I finally have fully accepted that i cant post three times a week like i used to. Now i aim for once a week and although i still miss some weeks, i am sooo much happier with both my videos and my day to day rhythm.❤❤❤ sometimes slower is better. Also I loved hearing about the books that you have been reading! I have also been reading aloud (to my younger siblings) and I noticed that my four year old brother is starting to love listening too! I am amazed by how long he will patiently listen and how much he remembers! Have you ever heard of The Sugar Creek Gang series? It’s a children’s book series from the 1940s-50s that i grew up hearing dramatized on the radio as a child and loved! Now i am reading it aloud to my four youngest siblings and it is so sweet to see their enjoyment of it!🥹

Yarn festivals are the best! Not so much for the shopping (though there is that), but for meeting up with all the people who we talk to online all the time in a safe space. And the animals. Who am I kidding? I'm going to squee over all the critters

Thank you so much!! 🥰 Yes, it is unspun yarn just like Plötulopi, but sadly another base with a different fiber blend from a very small German indie dyer and fiber artist who was vending at the festival.

It was lovely to watch your podcast. I’ve used my making to get me through some very dark times in my life. I picked up my knitting again in 2020 to help manage the pandemic stress. I just haven’t cycled into anything outside of fiber arts since then. I’ve had an idea for a botanical project percolating in my mind the past week. It’s inspired by a large vintage handmade bag I purchased on vacation in Puerto Rico. I want to recreate a different version with some other textiles I found on the island and vintage silks. We will see how it goes. It was lovely to catch up on your makes and I hope you have an easier time ❤❤❤

That sounds like such an incredible project!! I find using textiles and collected treasures like that to make for such meaningful projects, I hope you do venture into that creative realm and bring your idea into reality lovely Beate!! 🌿 I am so glad I'm not alone in having making be such an important tool in making it through life. As usual, you ate just such a kindred spirit in your words. 🌸🤍🌸

I love your thoughts on social media. I think finding a way to use it in a balanced way and consuming content that is inspiring and curated is a lovely approach. I’m currently knitting a “Mystic Square” tee by James N Watts for my husband. I’m using a beautiful gradient yellow to blue green Pima cotton yarn for the center square and then a black yarn for the borders. This is the first garment I’ve knit for my husband and I thought a tee was a perfect choice for North Carolina hot and humid summers.

I really wanted to love knitting with unspun, but the one project I started with it stayed unfinished. It worked up beautifully, but I reached a point where I knew I wouldn't be able to actually wear it--I'm too sensitive to rough fibers. So away it went. I'm glad I tried, though, and can appreciate more the artistry and dedication behind the articles worked up in it. I would work directly from the plate, unwinding a yard or two at a time, but I wasn't working colorwork. I definitely learned the value of spit splicing with unspun. I'm sure your cardigan will be beautiful! I think I'm going to start a Pressed Flowers cardigan by Savory Knitting to start the MAL, and I would love to work on a colorwork pullover after that. I've knit some colorwork but never a full garment. I'm thinking the Birkin by Boyland Knitworks, but I haven't decided for sure. It was so fun to see the progress on your pink cardigan--I'm inspired to look for a brioche project I can cast on. 😊

The dress by your friend is beautiful, but I think the sleeves would have difficulty fitting into the Rusty Cardigan without bunching up. It looks like it is something of a bat wing style sleeve from the one picture and those are notorious for bunching up in coats and sweaters at the under arm due to their construction. If I'm mistaken, YAY! Grins!
@MerryweatherKnitting
@MerryweatherKnitting 4 месяца назад
You're right about the Phoebe dress having big sleeves, but I've found a bit of a tuck (against the body) and wrap (of excess sleeve fabric) to work well with large sleeves and knitted sweaters! Definitely take a bit of *work* but I still very cozy. 🥰

I just stumbled upon your channel and decided to stay :D I would be interested to hear what you think about Plötulopi once you get started - I find it very scratchy, and if I want unspun yarn, I prefer Wooldreamers Manchelopis (there is an online shop in Germany that you can order it from) I am also completely obsessed with the look of the "Coverlet", but have many other projects on my needles at the moment :)

Oooh I am so so glad!!✨️ It is so good to have you 🕊 Thank you so much for sharing about Manchelopis~ I just had a peek and the colorways are just lovely. I'm excited about knitting with handspun, if I enjoy it I'll definitely have to look into a project using Manchelopis as well. I'm not very sensitive to rustic wool, but extra softness is always a joy 🌸

Ah but wool and natural fibers ARE 'alive'. One test is to make something needing stuffing like a teddy bear. If you make 2 and stuff one with wool and stuff the other with polyester stuffing . Then hug them. Very definitely the bear stuffed with wool will feel like it will hug you back. The characteristics of wool and other natural fibers like breathability, ability to wick moisture and regulate temperature etc all contribute to its life, so it is not just organic as in a definition of not having chemicals or a living entity as its source, but continues to provide the same benefits and characteristics like warmth as it did on the animal . So although it no longer grows once separated from its source, it still is a living entity because of its unique characteristics. If it was not it would lose these benefits and be not different than synthetic materials. Natural fibers are so incredible that some can increase blood flow and circulation and even eliminate pain . So the distinctions between living and non living do not end with a hair cut. Natural fibers are quite unique in this respect. So they are quite different than flowers that will die not just when removed from their source but even on the plant . Or fruits and vegetables that do provide nutrients when removed from the source, but decompose quickly once their life cycle is completed. They are more like seeds that carry the life source in microscopic and incredibly mysterious ways . Although they do eventually decompose they are life giving in the ways that they can be used. Congratulations on your discovery of needle felting . It is a wonderful craft and so much fun to do.

Dear Gabriella, what a fun idea with the make along! I am not very much into botanical designs particularly, but I have had an own fall cardigan design in mind for quite some time that would fit this theme, so I might join in later in the year😊 for me it‘s always more fun to join knit and make alongs of people I follow and „know“ than any random ones, so I would really like to take part 😇 When it comes to other designers that have botanical patterns, immediately Arne and Carlos came to my mind. They have a lot of interior designs (throws, pillows), colws, mittens and of course also garments with floral / botanical themes. And a lot of the garments are either unisex or male designs. I noticed that most of the patterns with botanical motifs are very feminine (and in general a lot of patterns are). So I thought, I wanted to mention Arne and Carlos, in case someone would like to make a less feminine pattern, as e.g. the Scrapbook cardigan or the Synnove jumper (but there are many many more, some very abstract and geometric ones as well, as e.g the Vegard and the Vidar jumper) 😊 I am really looking forward to you showing us the process of the Rusty cardigan. I just did steeking for the first time with my Une genser. I was a bit scary before I started, but the process itself was actually very easy and not scary at all 😃 I wish you a nice spring time and looking forward to the next episode already😊
