Trade backs are scams, and I refuse to change my opinion. I can understand not buying the character if no art was added. But in so many situations, value gets added to this character which would allow it to be sold at a higher price. You didn’t give the character away for free, so why should you receive free art of them? Why should you make another profit? If you wish to take the character back,BUY it.

I do trade backs, sort of. If I really like a design I made, I ask the person who owns it to reach out to me first if they ever decide to sell or trade, so I can offer. They don't have to accept my offer of course, but I do sometimes ask to be alerted so I have the option. But they will never return the character to me without getting anything in return, since that's simply not fair
I think for me closed species are ok as long as its in a community if I get harassed or something after drawing a "close species" even though I'm not in a community for said "closed species" that's when I have a problem with it
Im very new to art fight but I was wondering what your allowed to do with the attacks you recive as ive gotten some amazing art of my sona during this year but idk wether im allowed to use that art as like pfps and banners and stuff like that
My fursona is a hybrid (thylacine and deer) with heterochromia (one green, and one blue eye). I based them off a piebald deer, and I love that animals with leucism can have blue eyes that reflect a pinkish red colour, due to the lack of pigment, but the blue eyes didn't look good against their brown fur (half of their face is white, and the other half is brown), so I just gave them a single blue eye, and a single green eye lol.
Y’know, I love toyhouse. I love drawing art for people’s ocs and getting the chance to draw new types of characters and scenes, getting to show off my own characters, take part in communities, and possibly grow my skills and audience for a future career. It makes me feel semi-professional and polished, but not like I’m not allowed to goof around and just enjoy my art. But gosh darn it some people are really weird on there-
oh wow this made me actually realize an answer to something that’s had me at a standstill for a while ! thank you! it’s very important to be kind to yourself when you want to make efforts towards reaching your goals. don’t let where you’re at currently discourage you from getting there! and especially if you must take smaller steps to get there. no matter what, continuously making an effort will help you overcome hurdles and get you closer to where you want to be. keeping that in mind can be really helpful for artists! and ontop of that, it can be applied to many more if not all circumstances where someone wants to make progress towards their goals and feels discouraged.
some people will constantly say their art is terrible and then wonder why other artists dont wanna be friends with them. like it sucks but going around saying "woe is me" all the time is just going to scare people away because rhey dont rlly like being around negativity..
Artist here, godamn, I've never felt posting on tumblr, on recent news, to be this fucking safer than on twitter, mind you, those a-holes from tumblr just migrated to twitter, they're from the same breed except the most aggresive ones just went onto tumblr. Now drama is considerably chiller, though that depends on fandoms too, I'm mostly on tf2 fandom which generally as a fandom is one of the chillest out there with their weird lil' sense of humor. It is not impossible to grow as an artist there though, I've seen success but you do have to git gud, people don't give a shit about bd art, and maybe consider time for posting. Do take in mind that you'll get pressured by these moral police to participate in activism or give your opinions, like twitter (wonder where they got that from) so just try to keep yourself out of political opinions so people gently understand you don't want to be involved in things you don't quite fully grasp.
meee again finally made a toyhouse. i wanted to ask [or suggest as a video topic] about the "worlds" on the site. i thought about making one since it seemed like "a profile but for worldbuilding" but the faq on them makes them seem more like user-made rp forums.
I also think that focusing only on the "quality" of the end result of a creative piece can really make it easy to forget to enjoy the process of making it itself! :]
omg girl you didn't know about sorting you art into folders I feel so bad for youu. You probably already know as well but just in case you can also sort layers into groups as well and then move and hide/show all the layers at once, which gets handy when you are working on a peice with many layers :D. You can also flatten the groups into a single layer later on too if you need. I like using it to do my base colors so I can still adjust them individually for a little while if I need, and then flattening them into one base layer later on!
I couldn’t agree more that ArtFight really helps with not self deprecating. High temperatures aside, I performed great this year! I always look forward to it because it’s fun to practice art through it and give people art of their characters!
Horns are also common designs and the actual animal of the fursona. cat's dogs and dragons are pretty common if you look at it but dragons aren't usually put on their own.
Does anybody know like (I’m explaining this bad please bear with me) like in forums it’ll be like “show an oc who blah blah blah” and people will like have the characters profile in the comments? Like where their profile picture would go the character profile is? 😅
Even tho i personally could only do like 5 attacks cause of multiple issues, ArtFight was great on that matter cause i saw people who were at much more advanced stages than me when it came to art be very happy about my attacks, at first i was hesitating whether to do ArtFight because i felt i wasn't at a point where i'd be capable of participating and liking my own attacks, but it turned out great so i'd say my advice with those types of things where you want to not even try because you feel like you're not good enough, is to just try actually, others point of views can really help us improve and progress :))
Stereotypes sadly will never not exsist. It's a huge part of human psychology and a form of classification folks use to generally wrap up larger groups in their own minds. While its not right, it happens every day, and will continue despite all efforts. The only thing a person can do is just be aware of ones they prioritize as a part of their own personal bias. Examples being in politics and the assorted stereotype an individual side has for its aposing side. Or if your in the middle what each side assumes of the other. Tldr: Think for yourself and don't assume. People might surprise you then in their uniqueness.

Really useful take! I used to have really low self-confidence with my art due to comparing myself to other artists, but slowly started to break out of that mentality by focusing on my own efforts to improve. Art should be your own journey to go through, think of other artists as humans to relate to rather than idols to compare to, because even the most talented artists can feel doubts with their work. Keep up the great work!

thank you for this reminder, i have been drawing since i could barely walk and eventually i did start saying this stuff about my art at a very young age, its a bad habit ive been trying to work on and this has given me confirmation that i really shouldn’t be so hard on myself because in the end it wont do any good to me :)
I've got two sonas, both accidental. Lilytuft (or just Lilypaw at the time) started out as one of my first warrior cats OCs, but didn't have much of a story or personality, so I just started using her to represent myself. I've tried redesigning her a few times, but even the thought of drawing myself as anything other than a orange and white cat feels weird in most cases. Not that I even draw her much, mostly just reserve the first page of every sketchbook for a drawing of her that represents my general mood at that time. I've spent many years on the Stray Fawn forums, and thus like many people I wanted a Niche sona. I made a few attempts (the most prominent one just being a nicheling version of Lilytuft) but nothing really clicked. Then one time a forum thread of mine was turning political, and I scribbled a little reaction image with a random nicheling (weird ugly yellow fur and platypus bill) in ms paint. I used the same design for another reaction image soon after that, and for some reason it really resonated with me. I called her Dandelion and gave her a fullbody design, and now she's a sona. I'd feel really weird drawing Lilytuft as an anthro, but that's not really an issue with Dandelion, since some nichelings already spend their in-game lives on their hind legs. Dandelion is still a creature for most of the time, but I also use her as my Minecraft skin and for when I need to draw a more humanoid scenario. I also get to draw clothes on her, which just feels off-limits with a warrior cat. One more benefit is that Dandelion makes life easier for furry artists trying to revenge me on ArtFight, since all my other characters are fully feral lol Sorry for dumping a 10-page essay in your comments! Just on that 1 AM stage of tiredness that makes me want to ramble
I remember watching that video you made 3 years agos (I'm old lol) I had a lot fun doing artfight, I usually get a lot attacks of that one OC. 🧍(I hope you'll see the one I made for you, no pressure tho!)
I remember back in 2020, I saw a drawing that someone made of redrawing one of their older works (iirc the old one was made in 2016-2017, and the second drawing was made around 2019). My 13 yo self looked at the old drawing and was like “hey this looks like something I would draw,” and knowing that I can improve I took me art more seriously, and 4 years later I can safely say that I enjoy drawing and the artwork that I create. Of course, I’m not saying that it’s perfect (I don’t think it will ever be perfect), but I’m having fun drawing and that’s what matters ^^
@crossf1recreat1ons this is super relatable actually lol! One of my fav artists when I was a kid showed a redraw from a drawing they made when they were 11 (they were 16) and I was 11 at the time, so looking at the first drawing made me think, "wow, okay, that looks a bit like my art!!" And it was honestly very motivating!!
