Inspiration for coffee bag weaving! Tutorials for techniques and fun projects 🤩
Coffee bag weaving is a traditional craft in Finland. The plastic material of Finnish coffee bags is very durable and easy to handle. It also helps that most people in Finland drink a lot of coffee and getting the material for weaving is easy and most times free.
Here you will find instructions for making unique coffee bag baskets and bags using square weaving and othes similar techniques! With square weaving, you can make durable baskets and bags without a sewing machine, glue or tape. The different colors, patterns and sizes of the coffee bags provide limitless possibilities for creative design and weaving. At the same time, recycling the material of the coffee bags makes weaving a practical and inexpensive craft.
So you tried a different starting material this time. Nice... How do you plan to scaleup? Ideally this kind of repurposing should be taken up on priority by government agencies as it is a green way involving low carbon emissions.
I don't think I could do this with my arthritis, but I am glad someone can! Thanks for sharing and may you inspire many people to reuse items that otherwise get burned or go to landfill. God bless you and your work!!!
I love your work. Thank you for sharing! Could you explain the math for the strips to weave? I haven't quite figured it out. My bags are not the same size as yours. Thank you! PS love your colorful ombre bag!
Thanks! It's almost like deviding the width of the coffee bag with the amount of strips. In theory that would be the right width of the strips, but when you weave the material, it needs more space berween strips. They can't be side by side when the crossing strips go between two strips. Also the hinges need some space on the edges of the squares. I have made a calculator that you can use on my website to calculate the right measurements for your bags 🤓
Thanks! A few years ago I measured the time that it took to make one bag and it was around 8 hours. Usually a bit more, but depends on the design if it takes more time to be more exact in the cutting and weaving 🤓
They are coffee bags from my friends and family and their friends also 😄 coffee bag crafts are popular enough in Finland that many people save their coffee bags and try to find somebody who needs them. Makes it easier to get sometimes even hundreds of coffee bags at once, when somebody has collected them for years and wants to get rid of them 😊
Love this bag, especially where you only have to use the string in a few strategic places to tether. As always, well done, and thank you. Cheers from Maine 😊
