Poor Abe was bottoming out at this point. Drea De Matteo said there were times on the R'XMAS set where he couldn't stand up and would direct them from his hands and knees.
There's a moment (8:10) when Nancy says, "Oh no Sid!" and he instantly becomes wide-eyed and alert because he thought something might be wrong with her. I think that brief moment it very telling about how he felt about her.... The rest of the time he was completely out of it.
Madness showed from inside. It includes comedy and horror. Roman is a one of a kind MASTER. Knowing what cinema can express when crafted through artistic force.
It's nice when the interviewer just lets Martin speak, but man she is empty-headed. There is SO much psychological depth to discuss in this film & how Scorsese conveyed it, but she keeps trying to show us how banal and cutesy she is. "Hyuk, taxis used to go fast! If a girl had an ice cream truck, it'd be this girl, hyuk hyuk so quirky!" 19:05 sums it up, Scorsese tries to talk about the subtext & impact, and it's like he's talking to a dumb plank of wood. And she tries to recoup by brown-nosing. She even does that stunted behavior where she thinks it's impossible relate to anyone from a different time or place, with her crotchety rambling about how "young people would have no frame of reference!" Awful. It's bizarre how many interviews pair up a creative mind with a complete dullard. I guess it reinforces Scorsese's stories here about how Hollywood has no respect for a director's intelligence & only sees people as tools for profit.
I saw this back in the 90s and was deeply touched by it and loved the Neil Young soundtrack. Hadn't thought of it in decades and just now remembered it and had to look it up. Damn this was such a good movie! In so many ways. I gotta watch it again.
That is absolutely not a life. It is sad and misery. This boy was lost, totally lost. I dont excuse some of his actions but well, shitty childhood, bad influence. Never stood a chance. Same abt nancy. Two lost souls. It create damage. Ps : Sid stills waits for his coffee.
For more information on Dorothy Kilgallen mystery there is a good book written by Mark Shaw. I love the 1970s Hollywood era making these political films asking questions, questions now we Hollywood don’t ask.
Even with the bts I'm still scarred mentally. The fact this has probably happened in real life aswell is a fucked thought. Atleast I know how is was made.
14:46 That's very easy to say. He made bad decisions because he had bad judgement and poor taste. His best films by far in that period were Blowup and Deep Red but he publicly criticised both of them.
Thanks for uploading! Nice to hear from Mr. Polanski himself about it. 👍🏼🙏🏼 One of my favourite Movies. It’s very true and intense. A dreamlike clarity…
Sometimes s ones just don't shock they become " daft " and laughable. It's not horrific because it goes beyond a point where you think, this ridiculous.
7:37 I know all about the lightning-fast "goodbye, see ya. Stay up." To the long stride walk in the opposite direction. Nothing else looks like that walk.
The Morning is the song that put me onto The Weeknd back in 2012 and funny enough, I heard it in a Soulja Boy vlog 😂 I heard it and was like “hold up…. Who’s this!” Shazammed ot, found Trilogy and been a fan ever since
