My 16 year old Oscar was diagnosed 20 months ago at stage 5, worst heart murmur possible but he's been doing well on furosemide and vetmedin, which is pimobendan, but recently he's been coughing a lot probably because his enlarged heart is pressing against his trachea as his lungs are clear of fluid. This whole time he's only had 2 episodes where he's nearly passed out and that was due to heat and exercise. The vet is surprised he's still going. I've tried to give him a varied diet with some organ meats and vegetables since he's been diagnosed and want to start him on l Carnitine and taurine. The vet thinks he's doesn't need supplement as they get it from food but some pet foods actually contain a pea protein that negates the synthesis of taurine which is important for heart health. This is why much more dogs are being diagnosed with CHF, or so the study theorises. If anyone has any more suggestions I'd be open. He's doing pretty good really, still runs around like a puppy just has good and a few bad days here and there. I get the feeling he still hasn't got long though. 16 soon to be 17 is good innings though and I'd accept it if he passed but I don't want him to suffer 😢
Thank you for your share and for fighting the good fight for your darling Twinkie. I have a17 year old Yorkie. He has stage 2 kidney disease. I wouldn't even put Science Diet in my garbage can. Initially my vet brought it up and I said , No , I will give not him any food by THEM. She quickly changed to a more healthy diet. I'm feeding him a natural and healthy prescription food by Nine & Line for his kidneys. It's freshly made with quite a few supplements. I recieve an order every two weeks. He's been in it for a few months now. He loves it and eats it right up. Recently I've been noticing ( because I observed him throughout the day and night when he wakes up ) that he has the symptoms of CHF. I have an appointment with his vet tomorrow. I've been doing lots of research and have a natural game plan in place for him, I've ordered everything and will explain to the vet why I would prefer these supplements to treat my lil guy. If you're interested in what they are, I'd be happy to share. Keep up the awesome work, I know this is breaking your heart but you need to commend yourself for all you do for Twinkie 🙏💕 PS: He's been in Milk Thistle and Omega, among other supplements ,for 2 months now.
Guys pls help.. mine has been diagnosed with CHF without getting 2D echo because the doctor heard heart murmur. Vets gave him vetmedin (pemobendin), one vet gave him 2x/day prescription but max my dog started having shortness of breath and caughing.. one vet advice him to 1x a day and he’s not having shortness of breath and caugh.. guys what should i do?
Thanks so much for this video, its very helpful. My doggie is also 12years old and has also been diagnosed with Congestive Heart failure. He is also on fuoresmide and Fortekor. I am a pensioner but will definitely invest in some of the suggested supplements. Thanks again.
Very good Video very informative, it is very helpful and Much appreciated, we are going thru the same thing with our Little One😢, he is only seven. Thanks a lot!
You are so wonderful with him!! I'd actually trust you with my Havi who is terrified of the groomer after bad experiences. I'm self grooming out of necessity. Cannot do his face 😢
I hope you can figure it out, one of my friends dog went to the vet for a cough and they said it was kennel cough but a year later turns out it was CHF. An echocardiogram can give a more definitive diagnosis.
Hi! Twinkie died in November of 2023 but I do give it to my other dogs still, but it’s a dog bone broth, they have them on chewy and even shop rite has it.
When my dog was diagnosed with CHF a few months ago, and I cannot thank you enough for putting these videos out. I am on disability and a fixed income so going to a holistic vet might be out of my reach, but I will do anything in my power to keep my baby with me as long as I can. She is almost 14 years old, and I found her on the side of the road when she was a little bitty teeny baby puppy. She has saved my life many times over the years and now it’s time for me to save hers. Again, you are a blessing to us and I cannot thank you enough. So far my dog has only been on the prescription medication, but I will definitely be ordering these supplements from Amazon. Also, I was curious if Twinkie has coughing spells with her CHF. This is how we found out about my dogs. They have her on a cough pill, but all it does is just suppress the cough and I’m not sure if that’s a real good idea. Was just wondering if you were experiencing the same issues? Again, I cannot thank you enough for this information. God bless you and Twinkie. Roxanne
Oh no! Twinkie passed? I didn't know, I'm so, so sorry! You took such good care of her. My 13 year old schnauzer was just diagnosed with bad heart failure. She was passing out after coughing. Five hours after her first dose of Vetmedin, Lasix and a blood pressure pill, she's acting like her old self. How long do our sweet pups usually live after diagnosis? My vet was not hopeful.
Hello Katie Thank you soo much for the helpful advice. Not much information regarding CHF out there. Quick question regarding the young at heart and pimobendin. Do you have to adjust the dosage with both or do you give Twinkie full dosages of the vetmedin and young at heart? How did u space it out?
I have a question for you, so my dog I had to switch him off of raw frozen raw food and I have them on the pets table but I saw what you said about the legumes the peas and lentils. Does that actually contribute to the CHF he does have CHF he’s 14 years old. I have him also on a lot of different supplements and he seems to be doing better but now I’m concerned about the food can you answer that for me? Thank you so much and I’m praying for your little boy they’re so adorable. All your dogs are so adorable. I have two of them myself. I have a girl that she’s 10 and she’s very healthy. Thank God.
Thank you so much! Twinkie passed away in December of 2023, but he made it over 5 years with CHF, and no he didn’t have the type of CHF that legumes could cause, that would be Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) which means the legumes can block the function of taurine, but it doesn’t necessarily mean your dog has a deficiency if they eat some peas or legumes, though a taurine supplement wouldn’t hurt either way. If they are doing good on their food now then maybe stick with it and switch it up over time if you want, it’s always good to give them some variety especially when they get older and start getting picky. Good luck with your baby’s and update in the future if you remember, thanks for reaching out! 🙏❤️
When you are describing things that can cause CHF in dogs with bad teeth, one is raw meat and (sounds like) green free foods. What are green free foods?
I’m extremely sorry to hear Twinkie. You have my deepest condolences and prayers. It was your videos that helped me with my sweet boy cooper. I had almost 2 years with him since his diagnosis in 2022. Unfortunately he lost his battle with CHF last month. Thank you for sharing for your journey with Twinkie. 💐🙏
I’ve really been appreciating your videos. My little terrier-mix, Rosie was diagnosed with CHF almost two years ago. She’s been doing pretty good since the diagnosis until recently. She woke up yesterday, coughing and throwing up fluid. She had trouble standing up. Breaks my heart. I’ve been hesitant with putting her on a bunch of medications but now I seriously considering it. She’s going on 13. We’ve had such a good life together. I can’t imagine losing her. She’s always been by my side. I’m “the guy with the little white dog” everywhere I go. I’m about to take her on a walk now. Just wanted to comment. Thanks again!
Poor Rosie, I hope she’s feeling better now. If she had trouble standing up she could have experienced a syncope episode, but either way, you should get her on meds. They can really help for years to come. Balance them out with supplements and a special diet if you can. I know exactly how stressful it is, Twinkie lived over 5 years with CHF. He had a severe case. He died on Dec 13th 2023. But he put up a good fight ❤️ Good luck with your baby and keep me posted if you can.
Get your dog on meds!! My 13 year old Schnauzer was coughing and passing out. She is in CHF. The Dr. gave her lasix, B/P med, and a heart pill. (Vetmedin) She went from coughing, passing put and laying around to acting like a pup again in 2 days! She's not cured, but her quality of life is so much better. Best of luck to you.
My dogs eat raw meat and are so healthy... not sure why everyone seems to want to cook their dogs food🤔There are so many more enzymes and beneficial. bacteria in raw meat ....and my dogs LOVE it
I was thinking about going raw for my dogs especially my shepherd but I’m not sure what kinda meat to get, regular ground beef from the store? Chicken? Do you order it from a website?
@@lynnellis7736 You're so right, the owners should unhome their dog and trade it in for a short haired dog because you disagree with the tail trim. Imagine uprooting a dogs home life because of a tail trim. 😂
How is twinkie now??? My 10 years old female lab suddenly started coughing and her stomach got big, also heard those heart murmurs. Went to the vet and came to know she has both heart & kidney issues. Did both ECG & USG. She has ascetis, spleenomogaly, hepatomegalay, portal congestion, left sided cardiomegaly with valvular insufficiency. Its been 5 days, she is on a lot of medications now.
Oh no I’m sorry about your pup getting all those diagnosis’s at once. I know how scary it is. You can try different supplements to help with liver and kidney issues since the meds can make it worse. Is there fluid in her stomach? Was it drained? Keep me posted if you can. Twinkie passed away on December 13th 2023, I have a video about it planned but it’s difficult to work on a video like that but eventually I’ll have it ready ❤️
@@katiekatez84 so sorry for your loss. RIP twinkie..😔 And yes, there was a lot of fluid in her stomach, also on her chest. She is on lots of medications for a week now, most of the fluid is almost out now with the urine. In my eyes the fluid is out since she looks very slim now. Her natural weight was 35 kgs, she was 38 kgs after the disease, now she is down to 32 kgs. But doctor says there is still some fluid left after checking her heartbeat, says it's still congested.
@@katiekatez84sorry to hear about Twinkie 😢❤ we all pass and one day you'll be reunited. Sorry I just asked you in another video about him as I was sure. He did well to go on for another 5 years though! You must of been doing something right ❤
Thank you for this video. I just find your video. I would like you to tell me more about the Well being heart medicine. I have a Chihuahua 15 years old and he has heart murmur. He was coughing a lot but I am giving him COQ10 and Omega 3 , and Querceting but I want to know more about the Well Being Heart. Thank you in advance.. my dog looks exactly like him. Hope he gets better.
My husky wqs accidentally shaved by the groomer when i told to just keep her hair short. I'm super worried with all the info I see in the internet. But can you let me know if it is okay and if her hair would grow back? How long would it take?
I used to shave this husky once a year and it always grew back. Some dogs don’t have that problem and some do, a Pom I shaved once it grew back in patches but that might be because he got shaved his whole life and the older he got it was not growing back right. In my experience the younger the dog the better it grows back and some say a thyroid issue can be the reason it doesn’t grow back. Either way double coated dogs shouldn’t be shaved unless and it’s a risk but hopefully your dogs hair grows back soon! I have a shepherd and I would neverrrr shave him! I don’t even do a Sanny on him, I like him completely natural. So I know how you feel!
OHMYGOSH! She’s such a beautiful furbaby ❤ I’m going thru this RIGHT NOW with my 12 yr old 11 lb chihuahua.😓her name is MINNIE! I just started preparing my furbabies food with only KNOWN, healthy ingredients. Skin/boneless chicken breast is the major source of protein, along with peas, carrots, spinach, and rice, and they absolutely love it 🥰 My baby girl was on the brink of death two nights ago. I started her on some Lasix yesterday and it’s helping!🙏 I know u mentioned the frequency of ur dogs’ Lasix, but what is the dosage of Lasix? THANK YOU! 🙏🐶❤️ Oh WOW! The blue eyes, my dog is experiencing that as well. Can u tell me the name of the cream?
My little Zipper is a six-lb. chihuahua, six years post-diagnosis with CHF. His heart is enlarged to twice its size. He has lost four teeth now and is turning gray , but he still gets up and plays with my puppy who's now 2-1/2 years old. The Benazepril, Furosemide and Vetmedin work well. I've also added flaxseed and yams thoroughly blended to help with his anal gland issues. Thank you for your tip on sardines and colloidal silver; I did not know about that.
