This is different from any other instructions for this stitch I have seen. I made a cowl in this stitch and must say I liked the little nub I got from the first slip stitch instead of the way you did it here. I think the “standard” way also gives the stitches the slanted look for the herringbone effect. To each his own…

Thanks for sharing! There are lots of stitches and stitch patterns that share the same names (just as often you will see stitch patterns with multiple names). I'm glad you found a variation you enjoy.

I can't believe I found you, accidently. I've had this same machine for a few years but circumstances haven't allowed me to become a proficient user. I'm heading towards 80 years young, and having a few snags in the bonding of my Brilliant. I have 4 greatgrandchildren, another on the way, so there are projects on my list. Can't wait to get started. Thank you, so much for posting this video. Always on the look out for new, helpful information.

I never skip the first stitch when doing a foundation in the back bump. It eliminates the gap there
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter 2 месяца назад
I haven't noticed a gap but I suppose it all depends on your tension and size of your stitches. There does appear to be a gap while you're crocheting, but on my projects that gets removed when you finish off. I assume you make one less chain?

My sewing machine and serger are both broke lol. Can not be repaired...😢 I am looking into the Jubliant and the Vibrant baby lock serger.

Wondering if I should downsize to the jubilant from a Brilliant. I love that the brilliant has an automatic thread cutter, but maybe not an essential feature. Thoughts?
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter 4 месяца назад
I have both machines now and love each of them. If I only had one, and I had the space for it, I would probably keep the Brilliant. But if I was pressed for space or on the move a lot, as I was when I first got the Jubilant, I'd stick with that. I do love the automatic thread cutting on the Brilliant, the bigger creative area, and the stitch memory. But, it depends on what you use regularly. What is your "must have" or essential feature?

So for the very last stitch, you don’t go through both the front and back loops before you do the return?
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter 6 месяцев назад
You are welcome to do that, to make a "cleaner" edge, but you can also do the standard Tunisian purl stitch as shown in the video.
@JazzyJude
@JazzyJude 6 месяцев назад
I’m looking for a trick to stop the curling; both bottom and top. I’ve tried larger hooks…up to 3 times larger than the recommended size for the yarn and in addition to not tighten the stitches as I go. **sigh**
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter 6 месяцев назад
I use the larger hooks (quite a lot larger, as you do). Sometimes, I purl the first row if it works for the pattern. Blocking may also help.

It was hard for me to see with the variegated yarn (vision impaired). I believe the pattern stitch row is: you first did a SC. Then pattern repeat is *2 cluster stitch in “same” stitch, SC in next stitch*?
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter 7 месяцев назад
I didn't intend for the video to show the pattern stitch, just to demonstrate how to do the 2-dc cluster. But yes, when turned over, the pattern is [sc, 2-dc cluster] alternating to the end of the row, ending with sc. I had rows of sc in between as well.

Would thicker wool make a bigger flower?
@MarieSegaresundergroundcrafter
The flower would be about the same size because the loops are only as large as the loom. But it would be thicker.

This is exactly the pattern/technique my grandma used when she made all the blankets, lap robes, and dishcloths that she donated to those in need. She tried to teach me when I was little and I couldn't get it. Now I'm 37, she just passed away, and I started thinking about maybe learning to make the things she did. Your tutorial was excellent, but I think I should just accept that I'm unteachable when it comes to crochet 😅

Thank you for the review! I was wondering if you would recommend it for a beginner? I was at the shop earlier today, and he recommended the Joy, and even though I am a beginner I don't want to grow out of my machine really quick. I just noticed it has a lot less stitches, a 4 step button hole, which isn't something that I find appealing because I want to make garments etc. so yeah, I hope you see this! Thank you for your time again!
