Samurai Champloo was the first anime I watched as a young adult. Like I watched DBZ and some gundam wing as a kid, but during my teens, anime was for nerds as far as I was concerned. When I saw some clips on youtube one day though, I just had to see more. downloaded the entire show and binge watched it on my ipod nano during a long flight. It was all downhill from there, been watching anime for the last 2 decades since then, and I don't regret a single day of it.
This was one of the first anime I ever watched, and just like you said at the time I thought it was just another action anime (a very good one though). But this video makes me want to rewatch it, so I will. For anyone that hasn't watched it... watch it!
I love the review a lot of good point. One of the best Anime not childish, I have shared to a lot of people, that though animes where only child shows or Hentai. I was glad to proved them wrong with that show.
Leave it to some uncultured American to fail to realize how Mr popo is actually based on the Buddhist deity Mahakala and not something intended to appear as black
why do they even bring up any sexual shit using kids as characters......that this shit doesnt count as pedophile behaviour encouraging doesnt make sense.
I don't think it was even trying to disguise itself, most anime fans are more discerning than western media consumers and are aware that appearances don't indicate content. We live in a post Madoka age, after all.
I don't know WHY Roc didn't flip out when he saw Revy half naked. Can you really see him being used to hot naked women being as unassuming and insecure as he was back in Japan?
I kinda hate it when people put "X Thing Nobody Knows About" in their titles. This movie was my childhood, man. And lot of other people's too. And I remember it being quiet popular when it reached American anime fans, along with Akira, Ninja Scroll, etc. You should have titled this "The Anime Masterpiece Gen Z Doesn't Know About."
5:45 fuck jeah finaly someone who gets it. I watched every single outro of this anime. Something I never did before or after Black Lagoon. It sticks with me every since and I just love it. Everyone i recommended this Anime to, I told them to watchg the outro. Its just way to fking amazing :)
Something about anime's and the cringe scenes that no one asked for that really annoys me, like this could be a great show but you had to show underage nudity for literally no reason ffs.
I always preferred Samurai Champloo to its cooler older brother Cowboy Bebop. The narrative felt so much more cohesive and coherent than did Cowboy Bebop
Contrary to several other comments here I'm a anime fan. I can like the more fantastic, goofy or horny anime that are common. Still, this is one of the best pieces of anime movies ever produced and I wish there was more.
