I disagree: I think Scissors Seven is sincerely a masterpiece. No, it's not a show that has me thinking really hard afterwards about what happened. But the animation, the characters, the comedy, the wholesomeness, the entertainment factor, to me make it perfect.
[4:08] _"This show has no lasting impact. Give me a month, and this shit will 100% disappear from my memory."_ *Something tells me he only watched Season 1.* Season 2 is where the more seriousness in the plot really starts to kick off. The show only CONTINUES to get better once you get to Season 3 and 4. Season 4 in particular almost completely shifts to a serious & dark tone after Season 3 started to slowly dip into it. I must admit that both Season 3 and 4 end in cliffhangers. I remember when Season 3 came out and then being honestly disappointed when it ended so suddenly with that cliffhanger, but it was still hype AF and forgivable. And then Season 4's finale was honestly just fucking *FIRE.* (lord help me Season 4 only recently released and I'm already shriveling up and dying waiting for Season 5)
I agree. I think it perfectly encapsulates what it’s trying to go for in every which way. It’s just perfect. I love it so much and can’t stop rewatching it. If it gets canceled I’m gonna be so sad. Though I do know they plan for it to have like 10 seasons. And a movie is coming out soon. I’m pretty exited and really do hope that things turn out well for it. It’s something special for sure.
@@AbsurdTurkI don’t think it will remain dark and I also think that for the more edgy part that person is talking about they did a really good job at it. It was very fun to watch. They already set up a side arc for 2 characters and I also believe that things won’t stay very dark and that story arc will come to a nice conclusion
NO ONE UNDERSTANDS that this shit is a hidden masterclass of anime writing. While Season 1's finale made me feel hyped as FUCK with the main theme playing in the background. The Season 2 finale gave me a feeling most other anime fail to give me to this day, and cemented my attachment to Seven and the little island he calls home. Whenever you get to Season 2/3 it's gonna hit BIG TIME. Overall, fantastic review and you def got my sub. Well spoken and edited!
No lies, no bull, I'm addicted to this show, even tho they always leave everything at a cliffhanger without answering shit and squat from the previous one. Except season 1-2, they answered a lot of my questions, but raised a lot more in the process. But Dai Bo infuriates me to no end and season 3 is a good example of why. Also the fact that everyone acts like a fool, but that does have me glued to the screen to see if they spill the beans.
I too am addicted but I feel like the plot doesn't go anywhere sometimes💀 like I could skip the first 5 eps of each season and still know what is going on.
The chicken sounds like that in the Chinese dub because he is reference to a Jackie Chen movie where some con artist tried to convince Jackie into becoming an assassin. In the movie the dude dresses and sounds exactly like the chicken. If you don't know a lot about Chinese pop culture then you won't catch a lot of the references and easter eggs in the show (lots are lost in translation).
I really really like Scissor Seven and I'm so happy that people are willing to make videos about it. Chinese animation has a lot of hidden gems. Some facts about the series that most people don't know is that the animation studio is broke af, most (if not all) animators had to do a lot of work outside of animation. They did the voice acting, composed the ost and sang the songs that they wrote themselves. In the Chinese version, Seven is voiced by the director himself.
Wait…they’re broke? I assumed with how many seasons they got, how many languages it’s been dubbed in, that they’re producing a movie and had a phone tie in, that was pretty successful. I hope they’re making enough now at least, cuz it sounds like it’s been fairly successful. I actually love the Chinese version so I think it’s really cool he’s voiced by the director.
I don’t know how producing and funding works for shows and movies , but they probably got more successful from each season and more money to fund their studio
Season 1 might look goofy but man did it caught me off guard with sad moments. The part where they showed the old lady raising her child to an adult. Then his son growing farther and farther from her to the point he orders her to get assassinated for insurance money. Then the episode of the girl with cancer. Dai-bo's past like the others are sad. Season 2 and 3 pushed the animation quality. Season 4 upped the choreography, animation and probably dark themes. The flashback on Green Phoenix's family getting murdered is so powerful... The animation during jiang's hand to hand combat with red tooth in the cave is probably the best.
I think this show has some of the most mind-blowing development through it's seasons. Like first season animation has a lot of charm and love put into it but it was obviously low-budget. Comparing to season 4 with amazing animation to the point its uncanny to see simplier and goofier characters in bigger detail lmao
4:10 After watching S3 and S4, this has become one of my favourites, and I'm always thinking about this show. I love stories of assassins who try to move on from their past and live a peaceful life, only to find out that they can't, because their past catches up to them. You see how attached he becomes to the residents of Chicken Island. There are things that he doesn't want to lose no matter what. S3's insert song still gets me emotional every time.
this only counts for those who speak Spanish, but the Spanish dubbing is probably a masterpiece of adaptation to other languages. vocals sound exactly as they should sound. Besides that the style and the words they use really suits each character and the world of the series
10/10 man why? He s style animations is sick! Change every second in a different style and multiple gag about different anime good music good moment sad and bad ass this is 10/10.
Except for your last comment on it not being a show that sticks with you, I totally agree with you on this show. It hits a lot of emotion strings but also doesn't take itself so seriously. Also I thought I was losing my mind with all the references this show makes, it's seriously crazy how many you'll find. Glad I found your vid!
I have watched this multiple times over. It is literally my comfort show. It is so good. I agree with you on comparing it to adventure time. When ever I try to get people interested I always say it’s like something that would be on Cartoon Network in it’s prime. Its feeling pretty a adventure time-esqe
i think what makes it a masterpiece is not the lasting impact, but the fact that it a masterful execution of what it sets out to do - light, funny, action.
something thatw asnt mentioned is how perfectly and smoothly it switches from its simplistic goofy art style during the comedy scenes to incredible top tier animation during the fights and things also the island purity society lady casually being one of the most op characters and literally pulling out a kamahamaya was amazing and hilarious
The point Is that this anime Isn't that popular and the animators aren't in a hurry to make new seasons fast...so It Will probably take a While to' see something new, its sad cause the end of the third season left me so hyped. It Will be a long wait.
I watched Scissor Seven back a few weeks ago. The first few episodes were standard adult cartoon fare, but when episode 6 came around with that Girl who hired the Assassin to kill her so she wouldn't die from cancer, that was when this series hit something special. That as well as the guy collecting underpants in episode 4 was another good episode with a honest message about people with niche and strange interests. "Why do I need to kill him? Sure he has a strange hobby but he isn't hurting anyone."
I disagree, this show is a masterpiece and you can really get attached to the characters emotionally. It's a comedy show, but it also dives deep into its recurring characters (not just Seven). I, at least, ended up deeply caring about the Chicken Island inhabitants :D
Scissor Seven and Gintama are the only things that make me laugh as much as they do and their MCs are both my favorite characters Oh and Adventure Time but I missed it when it aired and am binge watching it now.
Im not sure is the majority of Chinese have the same childhood as me, but I think Chicken boss sound like this is actually referring from a TVB artist, Eric Tsang. Cuz in my childhood as a Cantonese speaker, Im watching TVB show to grow up and lots of the scene or memes (Im not sure should I called as meme or not but) can be found from Scissor Seven which is respecting some great shows those days, like one of a character have the same style with Chow Yun Fat in God of Gamblers, or the Shaolin Soccer of Stephen Chow. the director of Scissor Seven is a man from GuangZhou, China (if I didnt rmb wrongly), which is a place where ppl speaks Cantonese also. This is probably the first long comment I've ever write with my broken english😂sorry if there's any mistake but I hope u can understand cuz Im not a english speaker haha Im very excited to know that there's a foreign country (for me) youtuber to introduce a Chinese anime! great job😊
Season 3 is where things start getting even more serious. After the end of season 2 they show some small stuff to keep the comedy is season 3 but that starts to change in one episode as things start to get serious. It's too the point that the people who made scissor seven is making a movie and they are making a mobile game. Which we don't even know if there is going to even be a season 4.
Humor isn't top tier for a comedy but GODDAYUM the writing is genuinely some of the best in all anime. A short but sweet thrill ride that will tug at your heart while bashing your head with gags and references. 🤩
I watched this show on a whim, and I became obsessed with it and finished all three seasons (at the time) in two days. Yes it's a comedy, but it has its serious moments, and it has a really interesting plot revolving around the main character.
Stop sleeping on scissor seven? Bro stop sleeping on *YOU* I just found your channel and it’s almost criminal how underrated you are. I’ve been binge watching your videos since 💀
I know this is like , super old but by any chance have you watched S3 ? It ‘ s my fav season so far , and the colour picking were definitely on point . And the lore was starting to put an impact in the season , but the sprinkle of comedy is slowly transforming into trucks of chaos sprinkles ( there are barely any comedy in the last few episodes if i remember )
I got like two or three episodes in and just haven’t been back yet. I think you just convinced me, Mr. no bones. I don’t know what it is about you, but I like you my guy and for this I know it ain’t much but I give a step my friend.
And here I thought I was the only person in the world who prefers dubs over subs. The Japanese language is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Especially when they go all “EEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH” on you
I can’t say anything for the Japanese dub, but I watched seasons 1-2 in English first and then seasons up until s3 e4, and found I definitely prefer the Chinese dub. Idk, I just think the voices match better. Usually the original voices always r better, unless it’s like FMA or Baccano where the story takes place in the west
No one is sleeping on it, it just doesn't have the marketing like big name, arguably lower quality, Japanese anime. Which is Hilarious cause it is my #2 favorite anime on Netflix after Arcane.
