Great video. Thx for sharing. I had a service for another issue & had Tesla check mine and they said there was no leak of oil and documented my concern. I wish they would have physically showed me it or take pictures. Hopefully you are right and the tech was right that’s it’s just grease.
Can you still get a clip a day after the accident happened? I watched the clip like 2 hours after the accident happen and now I don’t see it under my events!! Someone please help me
If you people could read, there is nothing misleading about this. He says right in the title that it "checks". There is no way to force it. It is a two step process. At step one, Tesla will flag your vehicle for update. But at that moment, your car may not know. Once the car checks, the flag is updated, and downloading can start. There is nothing anyone can do to force step one.
I give this 1 million likes! That rattle was driving me crazy. The first couple days I thought I just had the bass up to high and it was rattling something but then heard it with the music off. So glad it’s gone now !
@@namle8760I had an old foam mattress topper and I cut a tiny sliver out of it. Maybe like a 1 inch by piece. Used a squeegee to stuff it above the led strip
@@S2kDude36 Yeah I did that video last week. Keep in mind that I have seen a COUPLE instances that look like a true leak but I think most fall in the assembly lube category and nothing to worry about: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kn1ZihqqNcY.html
I know it's hard to tell in the video but the thinner wire is way farther inboard and away from the tire/wheel so no chance of that one rubbing IF it is clipped in properly. That one does appear to go to a suspension component though so I suspect it's part of the active suspension. So I guess it's possible that it could get dislodged and rub if not clipped in properly. Hoping to hear from more people so we can tell if my car is typical: maybe the thinner wire IS a problem on other cars.
Different scenario for me. No rain, parked in garage, hadn't been washed since I bought it 2 weeks ago, 360 miles currently. Pulled covers 2 days ago and clearly it's some type of oil. Visible drips on both sides of the case below both axle seals with visible trails. Oil on the bottom of the cover with very little streaking on the outside. What's odd, that I haven't heard elsewhere is a strong smell from the rear of the car after driving that smells like sulfur or "rotten eggs", similar to gear old. May not be related but something I noticed. If you don't have problems, consider yourself lucky, but I'm not one of them. My M3P build data was around 8/11/24. Edit: Finished watching your video and to comment on the "AC condensation" making it's way to the rear splash guard any pulling the assembly grease outside the splash guard. I pulled my splash shield off within 10 minutes after driving 50 miles and there was no water on the splash shield and believe me the AC was blasting the whole drive. I hope your field tech is correct but I'll see what the service center says after my Sept 30 visit (which is for other issues also). I'm temped to clean everything off and see if anything comes back but I'll wait until my service visit. If I have time, I'll look at my wife's '23 M3RWD this weekend to see if it is similar. We'll see if Tesla will continue to play the "it's within spec" card. Unfortunately I heard too much of that during delivery.
Thanks for the detailed explanation! People have been sending me links to new photos/videos since I made this video and a few do look like genuine leaks but those are by far the minority. I've noticed something that could be a clue. If you see one or more oily stains on the inside of your rear drive unit splash cover, look in the middle of those stains. If you see a blob of thicker grease, it may just be assembly grease that is breaking down due to heat, water, or other conditions and spreading outward. If instead you see runny trails of liquid oil (sounds like you do) with no grease globs like I had, it may be a genuine leak.
Thanks for the update. I have a MIC 2024 M3P here in the UK, and whilst I had the wheel off the other day, I checked the seal/drive unit area, and it had a greasy residue on it, but absolutely no oil leak, and no residue on the undertray.
Thanks, been waiting on responses from people that have taken these in to get looked at. Everyone seems to say the same thing, that it is fine, but keep on eye on it. Going to purchase one soon.
Yeah, I'm not recommending ignoring it so best advice is keep an eye on it. I feel like the field tech today gave me the right info regarding it being assembly grease and I FEEL like that could be the case in a lot of these. But as I've been reminded by some avid "leakgate" followers, mine being assembly grease doesn't mean that's the case on all of them.
Thank you for the update video and the explanation of what you found out. Definitely makes me feel better. I had checked underneath the car last night and didn’t see anything. Thanks for keeping everyone updated.
I realize there are people adamant that ALL (or nearly all) 2024 Performance models have this leak, that they've had Tesla engineers admit it's a problem, and so on. So like I point out at the end of the video, I'm not trying to claim that NONE leak. Only that I was told and shown how mine is not leaking and that you can't proclaim you have a leak by seeing dirty streaks on the splash panel at the back. So (again like the video suggests), try to confirm you actually have oil dripping out of the back and it isn't just dirty water. That knowledge could have saved me a lot of time/worry.
Hmmm, i guess we shall see, mine actually was oil, but from the oil cooler to rear motor gasket, but we will be watching it closely (no streaking or significant under-tray drips). Hopefully you and the tech are right!
Yes! This makes sense. I had water dripping out the back of my car near the back where the splash guard meets the bumper when I took a look last week. I touched it and it was COLD and not greasy at all. I smelled it and it smelled like water and not oil. I was not worried and waited for more folks to report back. Thanks for the clear answer concise explanation!
Wanted you to know that this update definitely made my day. I’ve been tracking this from the start so I appreciate you updating us on the progress etc. Happy to be able to enjoy the car a bit more now :)
You ought to take this video down. I saw your follow up before this one, so it was clear to me, but it might be confusing to anyone who sees this one but not your comment.
Exact same, Tesla still didn’t fix it after 3 service support. And same problem with the frunk alignment. I wonder if Tesla can change the LED bar to fix it
I managed to find a post from someone who actually got their car serviced for this. Spoiler alert, it looks like Tesla is replacing the axle shaft seals... instagram.com/p3xperformance/reel/C-u-y6IpgVt/
