Hello and welcome to Mad Plaider! I built a tiny 10'x16' A-Frame cabin in 2018 and I finally decided to share it with everyone! I started this channel to hopefully inspire others to build a cabin or start enjoying the cabin lifestyle. The cabin is in the Pennsylvania Wilds near where Cook Forest State Park and the Allegheny National Forest come together. The cabin has a "life-size" paint by number moose on the inside and also has a flip open roof section. I will be sharing different activities that we do at the cabin, including hiking, chopping wood, unimpressive camp style cooking and lots of coffee and hanging by the fire with my dog S'mores!! Maybe some camp crafts, lego building and whatever else we decide to do when we are at the cabin. We also enjoy visiting the PA state parks across the state and camping in my 13' Scamp trailer. I hope you enjoy your time here and feel free to ask any questions you may have about the cabin or anything else and I will do my best to help.
Hey Madman, too humid for plaid? I like those little football helmets! You sure do find some neat things thrifting and flea marketing. Your deer stand areas look pretty promising-hope you will luck out this year. Oh, and psst: Bigfoot saw me but nobody believes him! Keep on keepin' on!
Haha yes, too hot for my Mad Plaider flannel, but I had it on this last weekend!! Definitely looking forward to some flannel weather and time in the woods!
Spots are definitely looking pretty good! Can’t wait to be in the treestand when the leaves are changing! Thanks for watching and I hope you make it back to PA soon.
Oh boy!! I really don’t remember to be honest haha. I think it was maybe a dollar store find because I also found a mitt with little a-frames on it haha. And thanks for watching and I’m glad you like the cabin!
Hi there! Yes, the walls and roof are all insulated, except the flip open part of course. I think the insulation does a pretty good job. I usually get toasted out from the wood stove unless it’s REALLY cold outside!
Good morning from Northern Ontario! New subscribers. Found your channel in our feed. We have built a couple even tinier A-Frame bunkies. Lol. Plus a lot more going on at our channel! Very cool setup you gave. ✌️🇨🇦🇺🇸
Good morning and thank you!! Sounds great! I thought about building a couple little micro shacks myself. It’s a lot of fun figuring things out! I’ll take a look at your bunkies!
I have a rule for things built on the ground. They need to be on a slab or high enough so nothing can live under it without you noticing. Skunks and Woodchucks.
always nice to have options ... like the design your going with. i also need a small wood shed, next summers projects, following the building of a 16 by 14, shed.
Since when do you leave 2 links in the package? Two is not good for much of anything there, Madman! 😊 The wood rack is coming along. Will you be working on your addition to the cabin any time soon? "A duck carved out of wood is a wood duck, but not a 'wood' duck"-you're killing me 😂 Keep on keepin' on!
Hahaha there was another row in the pack that you couldn’t see, so plenty for another breakfast! I’m thinking in the Spring to start the addition. I’m enjoying the flip up roof for now!!
Is this their dwarf 5kw model? I have the 5kw with their new oven addon coming in the next month or two and can't wait. Hopefully I can get to the point building my tiny home I can install it this winter.
That’s exciting! I’m sure you will love it! Mine is the 3kw. My clearances are so tight because of the slanted roof. If I went to the 4kw or 5kw, I would have had to put a heat shield on my moose painting haha, which I didn’t want to do. Good luck with your install!
Haha I could fall asleep to it haha. I always watch those fireplace videos when I’m doing things around the house. Maybe I should make an hour long wood stove fire video haha. Actually I might
Mothballs when you’re not there will help keep those moths away! The balls stink but a good pot of spices on the stove can clear it out. The moths will eat quilts and sweaters
Hi there! It’s made by “Tiny Wood Stove” and the model I have is 3KW, which is the smallest one. Works great in my small cabin! And thanks for watching!
Hey Madman, great job cleaning up around the cabin-looks nice! I never heard of a pudgy pie before. Is that a PA thing? A little char is good for you! 😁 Love how you threw the red plaid shirt in there! 👍 Cool video, thanks for sharing. Keep on keepin' on!
Hi there!! Hmmm I don’t think a pudgy pie is a pennsylvania thing, but more of a camping thing! They’re also referred to as mountain pies. I mostly make pizza or desert ones with apples. Try it out sometime!
You have a fabulous friend and your dog s'mores! Love your build design and overall aesthetic! Reminds me of hunting cabins around Wisconsin dells. Great job!
yep, market find is an awesome addition, it'll keep bruce company. and that lego build is a hoot. all in all, it was still an adventure with s"mores clearly enjoying the time at the cabin. tks mad plaider ...
Thanks for watching! Definitely one of my favorite flea market finds! Always a good time at the cabin, even if it’s a work day. The air is just different there! I was going to make an entire LEGO build video but figured nobody would watch it hahaha
Just a fun fact: The character of Smokey the Bear was created August 9, 1944. A real bear cub (weighing only five pounds at three months old) was found up a tree after a fire in the mountains of New Mexico in 1950. Thereafter he was made the face of the Forestry Service campaign against forest fires, and the bear lived out his life at the National Zoo in Washington DC, passing on in 1976. My parents were the sort who thought that entertaining kids was unnecessary so we never went anywhere but they made an exception when it came to Smokey the Bear. We didn't really look at any other exhibits that I can recall but I know that we spent a good few minutes watching Smokey snoozing in the sun. My one childhood "claim to fame" is that I saw the REAL Smokey the Bear, 🐻
I like this slower type of thing. Usually house and interior videos rush by, for some reason, and you get a microsecond view of any part, but when looking on a building you want to _stay_ . The whole purpose of a building IS staying. You want to take it in, get a feel for it. So thank you for that. Much appreciated. And on the building itself - very nice! I would have never chosen painted interior walls like that, but I actually liked it! Good inspiration, and maybe I'd go for that style too were I ever to build something like this.
Thank you for the comments! I like colors if you didn’t notice haha. The green color on the walls was matched to a LEGO brick hahaha! I almost painted a trout paint by number instead of the moose.
Looks awesome! I would just do a composting toilet or a five gallon bucket double bagged and build your own shower. Einstein said simple is genius! I think you would agree.
Hi there and thanks for watching! It’s small. The overall footprint is 10’x16’, but you can see the end caps are not the full 10’ wide. I describe it pretty good in my one video where I did a full cabin tour if you want to take a look. Thanks!
