How is macs little dock section? Im always hesitant to book there because i dont know if i can trust my boat being protected in that bay. That big section of the lake always gives me the shakes.
Hi JJ, love your channel. Just a heads up, that gear oil you put into the rear diff looks to be for the half ton trucks, 75w85. The HD's should be 75w/90 part 89021678, I always buy 4L and use about 3.6L to fill the diff.
@@jjsoutthere7267 Hmm, I had not looked close enough at the bottles in your video as the front and rear diffs are a different oil ( by the GM oil spec that is ). I suspect from what I have seen elsewhere of online order suppliers, the front diff can go with the GM 75W85 "high efficiency" oil or 75W90 and I doubt you will plan on using your rig in the extreme cold. The rear diff though, yes I have only seen the 75W90 with the added limited slip additive being called for and in all cases the full synthetic is the theme with the gear oils. Just have a chat with the dealership as it would be easy to confuse and give the wrong viscosity oil as after all you drive in some pretty hot weather and always with the load and would not want to compromise your diff.
Excellent job maintaining your equipment and thanks for explaining everything that you’re doing😊 you are very thorough and meticulous with everything you do.
The 8-11 can fit short bed and 9-6/10.2 are both for long bed. Because of weight (2900 for 8-11 and 9-6) minimum is 3/4 and the 10-2 ( 3400) is one ton dually. They now have a 6-5 for 1/2 trucks.
I was wondering where you found the torque specs for the various bolts as was it a site that someone had access to the shop manual as it can be very hard to find information like that otherwise. Also noticed you had a screw on hose for the GM bottles of gear lube, was that a GM item or some generic unit that happens to fit a GM bottle ( there doesn't seem to be standards for bottle threads ! ). Oh and one other item I have meant to ask in the past and that is what has your typical km distance between engine oil changes been ?
I went to GMC page for the specs. The pump I used was for a boat to fill Merc out drive oil. It worked perfectly. I’m usually changing oil every 5k. I usually change when my percentage oil left on my truck hits between 40 and 30%
@@jjsoutthere7267 I am surprised its using much oil within what I assume is a 5000 km ( 3000mile ) oil change period but I do realize GM claims up to 1 liter/quart per 1000 miles is normal. People from the US don't realize when they put a K with the distance figure it could mean either km or miles and then we Canadians trying to wade through the Imperial/Metric mess LOL. About the short hose comment, that was in regards to the gear oil bottle you had some sort of cap/hose adapter to fit into a Delco bottle of gear oil and thought that was quite nifty to bypass the need for a pump for that application. The auto transmission, that as I can see is a whole other challenge and have to have a pump system like you used or equivalent to have a hope to get the oil into it. And as to the GMC page, do you mean a forum or does GM themselves actually give out a short list of specs ( I mean if so that is a shocker ! )
Good trip JJ I followed along the whole time, through the desert SW / Death Valley 🌵 into Mexico ... You're living the dream brother ... Hope to see you out there this coming year... As always, be good, be kind and be careful 😹
Speaking of changing oil in the diffs, I am guessing that your truck has actual drain plugs on it but I gather either for 2023 or into the 2024 model year for sure I am seeing youtubers that say there are no drain plugs on either the front or rear diff of at least the single rear wheel HD GM trucks, so its back to removing the cover just to change oil, that is certainly taking a step back from what was an easy operation to perform.
@@jjsoutthere7267 Oh, so I guess its too new as well and understand the rear diff anyway has an area cast into the housing that is where the drain plug threads were back when they still manufactured it with the threads and I gathered it was a magnetic plug at that time. This will be interesting though, to see how well the used gasket works at resealing. From what I gather with the last few model years as per GM factory fill diff oil, the rear is a 75W90 limited slip gear oil while the front is a 75W85 "high efficiency" oil. Transfer case Dexron VI, 6 speed transmission also uses Dexron VI ( the 10 speed uses a different specialty oil though ). Don't quote me on these oils but I think that is the theme for your truck as per factory fill oils.
I assume the 6 months max within a year period of time ( not calendar year though ) still applies to Canadians wanting to stay or travel in the states ?. Otherwise though the plans you laid out if they come to pass sound great, down the east coast to see more, winter in Florida for a while, then venture across the lower states and then up the west coast seeing more such as the redwoods etc although the time of year may not be ideal. Alaska or north anyway sounds like an excellent plan, might need some industrial mosquito spray next summer though !.
Did you try disconnecting the starting battery after a fair drive or after charging it with your charger to then let it sit and see if it held a charge in a disconnected state ?. As to those younger women in the cars who were rather excited to see you ... I guess a guys really made to the big time when you have groupies following you LOL ! .
12 years my wife spent in the Navy and never went on a ship. Her rate (job) was strickly onland. She LOVED the Navy but got out after 12 years. Go figure on that one.
Wrote you a long post but lost it. Anyway next time I'll catch you up. Sounds like you found another hole in the ground. NC is nice. Go to the East and see the light house at Cape Hatterist, it's nice and I'm sure places to park around there.
Did you leave your 7 pin harness plugged into the truck? After you did your upgrades did you disconnect the trickle charge wire in the harness. This happened to someone I knew and it killed his truck battery a 2023 GMC . After I did my upgrades to my Northern Lite I disconnected the wire inside the camper it’s right near the water heater.
I removed the wire from the wiring harness. Just inside the camper was a breaker that it went to and that was on the video when I did my battery upgrade. Since then I unplugged the harness from the truck but same outcome.
My SUV started acting strange about a few months ago. It all started when I tried use the remote start and it did not work. Got in it and Use the push start. and the check engine light came on I reset it and about a week later it came on again. Got in it started it up then I had a bunch of warning lights on. The vehicle would only go about 5 miles an hour turned it off and restarted it. It seemed fine, but the check engine light was still on, I reset it again and about two weeks later it would not start totally dead I put a charger on it and the needle was totally in the red. Put a meter on it with it running and the alternator was putting out 14+ volts Purchased a new battery now everything seems fine. Fingers crossed.
The wife pointed out that you came near our house. I'm sorry we missed you. I explain to her that even though you came close you might not posted till a day or two later. She's a scientist but sometimes she doesn't have the common sense it takes to get out of the rain. Good woman though. If you're in North GA area, make sure and check out Chickamauga battle field, It's huge and 100's of hiking trails, well maybe not 100's but a lot, plus a tower. Also check out Lookout mountain sites, point park is free on top, don't pass up Ruby falls, you hike., I think a mile into the mountain and it's a pretty easy path, all laid out. Rock city of course and make sure and use the incline. I'm NOT so sure I would go the traditional route up the mountain with your rig. I mean I guess you could but you would get close to the rocks. If you do then you might want to go down through the Coves at the base of the mountain through St. Elmo going South there is a much easier road up the mountain but it's about an hour or so out of your way. However the Cloves is breath taken scenery. You'll love the trip. There is so much to see around Chattanooga Tn and all around there. We now have a 2024, 975 Lance, it's not what we wanted but it's ok. Powered by a 3500 dually, older truck but seems ok. So we might tag along if you like older people. I don't walk good but Nancy has never seen Ruby falls. I have! It is something to see that's for sure. Chattanooga and the South is BIG on the civl war as you'll see. I know the park like the back of my hand for when we were kids I rode all over the park on bike, ,my cousin and I did. Boy to be that young again. Anyway kind of disappointed we didn't meet being so close but if I remember right you have a drainage on your battery. We've watch every video but we don''t alway comment, in fact I had to create another account to comment tonight. Safe travels my cyber friend, Bill in GA to Ga
Hi Bill, yes my videos are usually 1 to 1 1/2 weeks behind. I find it easier that way incase I stay in one place for a week I don't have to put out a video. I will definitely keep all this in mind for my next visit. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. Great rig. Nice clean job with the wiring and circuit protection. I'm about to do the same job on my truck and camper and bought the same trolling motor connector because I saw it in a write-up somewhere. I'm worried about the exposed pins on it though. Someone else unplugs it and you'll have an exposed hot pin just waiting to find something metal to short to ground.
Bill here: North Georgia and Chattanooga are our stomping grounds. There are so many sites to see there. Boy it will take you days to go everywhere. Unfortunately, I don't know of many places to boondock that I know about. Ruby Falls goes a mile down into Lookout mountain, it costs a bit but it's worth it. I highly recommend Lookout Point on Lookout Mountain, it is free & it is an AMAZING sight! Rock City you supposedly can see 7 states, but good luck finding them. It has to be a very clear day to see all around but it's still an awesome site. There are caves around there but usually only the locals know where they are. Anyway, all in all it's a great place to visit, especially in a truck camper.
To produce snowflakes takes a well thought out plan, start early with mind programming on tv, then school where you find out what gender you are or if your a furry ... then collage to learn even more ... how to demonstrate invisible snow flake causes, then retire after college to your parents basement playing video games and turn into a blob that gets hauled to the doctor to figure out what meds to throw at the situation to ensure they never snap out of the insanity.
Hey JJ, this is Bill & Nancy. A.H. Stephens State Park is just a down the road a few miles from us! We are in Watkinsville, Georgia. We would like to meet you & have a cup of coffee with you! We been watching your videos for over a year now. We have free hookups, water, power & sewer in the backyard. Come on by! There is a lot of Civil War stuff in Georgia & Tennessee. Check out Chickamauga Battlefield in North West Georgia & Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, The Incline, The Chattanooga Choo Choo in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Those are all just a few cool things to see in our home town (Chattanooga). Bill for grace no spaces at yahoo is a good way to tell us what you see. In case you don't know, it is okay to boondock in the rest areas in Georgia.
here's the facts about a 12volt battery. Even if your meter reads 12V doesn't mean it's a charged battery. 12.73v = 100% charged. 12.62v = 90%, 12.50v = 80%, 12.37v = 70%, 12.24v = 60%, 12.10v = 50% charged. even at (12.whatever) could be that the battery will not have enough charge for its cold cranking amps. All the years we put a meter on a battery and said it's good we got 12 volts....LOL. I would unplug the camper and all other things (Dash cam, go pro, whatever from dash) and isolate the truck to itself and get a reading after a shut off and then an overnight reading just before a start-up. Could be a bad battery. I'm told go with a Deka, they're not cheap, but I hear they're top notch. I'll be putting them in my 2018 3500HD Duramax when the stock ones go bad. Also I don't know if there is a way to email you. I have the same set up as you and would like to send pics to show you some mods I have added. I know you'd like them. Good luck and keep the videos coming.
Yup my email is listed on my page. Like I have said anything under 12v is dead. I make sure when parked for more than one day nothing is on and the only thing I do leave on if for one night is my dash cam. So not sure what’s going on. Last stop was for 6 days and started right up. 🤷♂️
What a difference this video is from others doing walk-throughs at RV shows, you’re living it and that’s what makes this a real review! Thank you. Sure would be nice to sit down and have a cuppa coffee and ask you some questions ie:solar upgrades, not using the black water, possibility of a Webasto diesel heater also I’m wondering if half of the dinette seating could be removed to put in a small wood burner. I’m hoping to over winter in Alaska And don’t want to rely on propane.
Lori is a great planner and she knows what you like enjoy another great video you should maybe think about changing it from Jjs out there too JJ and Lori
Nice set-up. I have a 2005 Northern Lite and plan to add a DC/DC charger. How did you feed the cable from the charger to the battery housing in the camper?
Is there a video where you show what's behind the door you added in the walkway? I'm looking at buying this model but I want to load up as much solar and batteries as I can.. so I'm curious what you have there Thank u
@@jjsoutthere7267 just watched it. You have no idea how long I have been looking for a video like yours haha . Exactly the info I have been looking for .. thank you
At least I wasn't the only one who ran into the odd "odd" character years back although expect what you dealt with was more fringe than anything I happened across. Hopefully it is just a simple battery issue but imagine if you are in a spot for a few days and assuming the system doesn't go stupid just to disconnect the battery, to disconnect it after you shut down and then keep tabs on its voltage and if it maintains voltage through the few days and then hooking up to start and it works fine, that might indicate other issues are happening to cause random draws.
