Don't get me started on a simple 3 story condominium here in Calgary that uses a hydraulic Otis Elevator that is constantly shut down for service which is a major inconvenience for less able bodied people that are forced to stay indoors especially people in wheel chairs who live alone and cannot use the stairs!
Nice gear-less machines in good running condition plus safety with the wrap around guard on the driven sheave. While the indentations on the data plate was worn with the isolation transformers the motors are probably 440-480 VDC.
Reminds me of the transmitter site at wrtn in Yonkers New york. We had black suit all over everything because of the arcing from the motor brushes on the elevator systems nearby.
These are dandy geared DC traction machine working very well, yes they were built to last. No arcing on the communicator, MG sets are running smoothly, the size of the MG's I would imagine the DC motors are running at 440 VDC or higher.
I'm currently working on adding realistic(ish) elevators to a mod for a free game (Minetest) here. At the moment, mostly for testing, I have it using a few clips of the motor/brake/contactor noise from this video for a few sound effects. The total usage is six short clips of audio only, the longest one being about 4 seconds long. If this sort of usage is acceptable to you, would it be possible to get a statement (a quick reply to this comment will do) stating that it can be used (and distributed, and that other people receiving said audio clips can do the same)? If you'd rather it not be used and distributed in this way, just let me know and I'll make sure it gets replaced with something else. Thanks!
That, is a great little video, without narration, just machines doing their work . Excellent audio. Thanks for posting without expletives: like awesome, incredible, vintage...etc Ya know, this is proof we could build stuff to last....but the greed and the push for squeezing blood out of a turnip mentality....not gonna let it happen.
Worm shaft immersed in oil is best solution for longevity, although the DIY oil collector is a must 😃 Sadly, manufacturers do not produce sturdy stuff anymore
Really nice triplex group! The controller system is fascinating, I really like the UI. Also having all the real time data directly on screen with so much info about I/O and even the voltage and current of the DC drive system is outstanding. I feel that most modern day controllers are no where near this convenient.
little bit obsolete configuration. i had seen many elevator machine rooms, but none of them had DC motors. each had 3 phase Induction motors with Windings 2 and 8 poles. (2 pole for fast level switching and 8 pole for the level correction) even the older ones from early 60.s. Last application of DC motors i had seen in Locomotives from 1991(class 163 of Czech Railways or Regiojet 162), or in a Paper Mills.
