These are dandy geared DC traction machine working very well, yes they were built to last. No arcing on the communicator, MG sets are running smoothly, the size of the MG's I would imagine the DC motors are running at 440 VDC or higher.

That, is a great little video, without narration, just machines doing their work . Excellent audio. Thanks for posting without expletives: like awesome, incredible, vintage...etc Ya know, this is proof we could build stuff to last....but the greed and the push for squeezing blood out of a turnip mentality....not gonna let it happen.

One of those ropes is “roughing” and riding up and down in it’s groove. That’s trouble brewing!

Partially due to the nylon sheave liners. Either way, as you say, not great.

In all my working life as a lift engineer…I’ve never seen Langs lay ropes used for the main ropes.

United Technologies made lots of changes to Otis around this time. Instead of being the Cadillac, they tried to compete.
