I tested both the 2021 (previous iteration) and the new 2024 Staff CB irons side by side. Both felt amazing and to me, nearly identical. Was able to get a brand new set of the 2021 CB’s in my spec for $499 shipped. Was very close to doing the DTC thing with either Takomo or Maltby, and am so glad I gave Wilson a try. The ‘21 model is just unreal. Buttery with surprising forgiveness. No need to spend for the newest model unless you want to. You can thank me later 😁
@@theJdominator Man that's too bad. Keep looking. They seem to surface if not new, a barely used demo set. Played my first round with my set last weekend. 2nd shot from 198 out on a par 5, striped a 5 iron to 18" and tapped in for eagle. First time I hit the 5 iron. They're incredible.
I'm cool with a lightly used or demo set. That's good $hit man. I hit my current 5i two hundo. Congrats on the eagle. I had my best ever round w/ a set of Wilson Ci6 clubs years ago. They are underrated irons. These are definitely going to be my next set when I can find them for a decent price ☝️
Just bought and used a set of these on the course yesterday. They are pretty amazing. They also feel great. I hit more greens in reg, made some pars and even dropped a birdie. As a 60 year old who was using Haig Ultra blades from the late 1960s, i have to say that these made golf fun again. I’m really looking forward to this golf season with these irons.
Great review Jeb. I think that most golfers get distracted by golf bag jewellery and don't fully explore some of the underrated options out there. Best of luck at Yelverton mate!
I have a set, as age 67 needed the distance help, still play low single figures, but distance was becoming an issue. Back at 160 carry with 7 iron, so perfect for me, gapping works well through the set, i have 7 iron to GW as i use a 6 hybrid, 3 hybrid, driver, 3 and 6 woods. I have gapped my bag, works perfectly, only duplication is the 3 hybrid and 6 woods, this is deliberate, 3 hybrid is low penetrating flight, 6 wood flights it high, with soft landing into the green. Having played blades all my golfing life, including Wilson back in the day of plus handicap, these suit my eye, whilst being rockets. So don’t think these are just mid high handicap irons, if you need a little distance, without over jacking the lofts, these are worth a try.
Personally, I can't bring myself to consider any other iron...I have them in 6-Pw in my bad and their CBs from 3-5. Amazing feel and workability. Nothing, and I mean nothing!
I picked up a set of Titleist T200's a couple months back and really disappointed with distance....they are reg flex Tensei Red, and just like you...all over the place. Will be trying the Wilson Forged Dynapower, and back to stiff this time. Thanks...
I go to make a fiting in a few days With Wilson mysuno and ping My handicap is enter 10 et 15 About Wilson the number angle of descent is it good ?( between 45 et 50degre ? on the Green )
✳️ I tested it the other day ✅ if I buy 1 I would put a white dot maybe a sticker on the top centre near the face between the turbulators to help focus on the centre of the head ✳️
I loved them after a first fitting then I made a second fitting and bought them. But with the retro loft. I’m not a fan of these new loft. The I530 5 iron has the same loft (22 degrees) than my Ping Eye 2 3 iron back in the old days. This is too weird for an 69 years old man like me. Besides, since I still can hit 145-150 yards with a 7, I’m not looking for distance but for balls as straight as possible (even with not sot so good shots) and as less dispersion as possible. This is exactly what I get with these I530, I love them.
I tried to find the Dynapower Forged at my local Worldwide Golf and PGA Superstore. While both carry "some" Wilson models, neither has this one on the shelves to hit. I contacted Wilson directly and inquired if they have demo clubs that they can send out. They don't do this, which I think is a huge mistake. If you are interested in buying these you have to go on blind faith and buy what you "think" you need on their website. Crazy poor business model.
Nice, its easy to add weight to the head, with those tungsten weights., makes it easy to get it up to your perfect swing weight , I did that to my whole set of i 230,s. 5 -PW.. amazing improvement.. Really like the looks of the i 530.. as my swing speed seems to be slowing a little as I get older.. .. But in Retro Spec ... and from 8 to PW bent closer to the Power-spec as on the. i230. ... UST - Dart F2 or F3 shafts..
Nice review. 3 loft options is not new for Ping, neither are the micromax grooves. My i525 has them too, just one more on the 7i. Which makes sense as the i530 blade has been made lower (especially at heel side by the looks of it). I do agree the clubhead tends to feel light-ish - I got fitted into the stock graphite i525 with non standard swing weight to improve that feel. I can also confirm the extra wedge effect for its predecessor.
New subscriber. Video idea, could you possibly get your hands on the Wilson Dynapower Forged and let us know what you think? Maybe hit it against something we are more familiar with like a Titleist T150 or Ping i230.
Looks like another beautiful UK day. It's hard to find Wilson clubs to demo where I live in Arizona. Most retailers don't carry them and focus more on the "popular" brands. Wilson used to make great equipment, and I'm glad to see they are doing it again.
All the walking towards and away from the camera is mildly distracting. I found myself paying attention to that and focusing less on what you were saying. You're way to fast to be an i530 player, even in retro lofts. You would be a Blueprint, S59, or i 230 player, but I imagine that you know that already.
You can mix an match the lofts proper fitting id do more loft 5 and 6 iron then maybe fit in the 7 8 and change the loft on 9 and pw ...depending on numbers
I have the Cobra Darkspeed X which is longer and more forgiving than my last driver but I had to see all the fuss about the 10K. Set to arrive in a few weeks. I'm hoping for fewer hooks and slices. Not too worried about backspin. Main thig is I no longer have the time or physical recovery ability to practice so I'm trying to swap that out with tech, lol.
I have the darkspeed coming in the next week or so. So keep your eyes peeled for that one. But your right so far in my testing the 10k over the whole data provided is still the best, for me
Yes I have always played a full set of irons 1-SW MacGregor Muirfield Bladed irons, nothing scary, just hit it smooth and out of the middle. Hitting long irons is the most satisfying feeling 👍
I got fit for the 54.12, 58.08, and I bought the 62.08 just because I like to do the flippity flop around the green. Got them in nickel too. Super sexy in-person.
