I never get the strong loft argument. Hitting a club less with a shorter shaft sounds like a win to me. The extra wedge needed argument is also void cause you will likely need less clubs at top end to offset that extra wedge. I now use these and hitting my 7 as far as my old 6, but the shorter shaft gives me better dispersion. Also bought a 48 degree wedge, but dont need a 4 iron now 😂
I think its more to do with the spin rates and the descent angle. 7 iron going like a 6 iron would suggest less spin and a flatter flight. But all valid reasons and im glad these are working well for you. 👍🏻
@jg__golf That's the point. My new 7 iron basically replaces my old 6 iron. It's just at shorter shaft length. If you forget what's written on the bottom it just becomes a club for that particular distance. I just need the forgivness now, thanks to kids and lack of practice 🤣
I loved them after a first fitting then I made a second fitting and bought them. But with the retro loft. I’m not a fan of these new loft. The I530 5 iron has the same loft (22 degrees) than my Ping Eye 2 3 iron back in the old days. This is too weird for an 69 years old man like me. Besides, since I still can hit 145-150 yards with a 7, I’m not looking for distance but for balls as straight as possible (even with not sot so good shots) and as less dispersion as possible. This is exactly what I get with these I530, I love them.
I bought 6-pw in the i230’s. Added a i530 6i to serve as my 5i as the i530 6i is 4 degrees stronger loft wise than the i230 6i so the blending of the two comes out perfect.
Nice, its easy to add weight to the head, with those tungsten weights., makes it easy to get it up to your perfect swing weight , I did that to my whole set of i 230,s. 5 -PW.. amazing improvement.. Really like the looks of the i 530.. as my swing speed seems to be slowing a little as I get older.. .. But in Retro Spec ... and from 8 to PW bent closer to the Power-spec as on the. i230. ... UST - Dart F2 or F3 shafts..
Nice review. 3 loft options is not new for Ping, neither are the micromax grooves. My i525 has them too, just one more on the 7i. Which makes sense as the i530 blade has been made lower (especially at heel side by the looks of it). I do agree the clubhead tends to feel light-ish - I got fitted into the stock graphite i525 with non standard swing weight to improve that feel. I can also confirm the extra wedge effect for its predecessor.
You can mix an match the lofts proper fitting id do more loft 5 and 6 iron then maybe fit in the 7 8 and change the loft on 9 and pw ...depending on numbers
All the walking towards and away from the camera is mildly distracting. I found myself paying attention to that and focusing less on what you were saying. You're way to fast to be an i530 player, even in retro lofts. You would be a Blueprint, S59, or i 230 player, but I imagine that you know that already.
