Receiving AM is no problem, as far as you know how to use a screwdriver and have some experience in electronics ;). You gotta open the radio, spot the AM circuit and have to solder some flexible wire between the coil and the variable AM capacitor, which is mostly integrated in the rotating capacitor block, who holds the tuningwheel. On this block are 4 connections, one of them is the point where AM capacitor and a coil (ferrite stick with one or two windings) meet. Thats the point to solder the wire onto, right on the "block"s AM contact , close the case back with the new wire hanging out. Lets start to have some fun: take another wire as long as possible and start to attach it on your house´s front, through the garden, between and on trees, feel free to be creative. The one end of the long wire stays hanging in the air/garden/tree/whatever, the other end gets connected to the little wire you soldered to the connection of capacitor and coil. Now, as the atmosphere is more reflective at night, tune in trough the worlds powerfulest AM-stations all night long :)
Sometimes it is not smooth when you scroll the screen but I haven't noticed any major lags. I use it for basic things like watching a video or reading PDFs. I don't play games so I can't say about performance when using more havy applications.
The UK is keeping AM/ FM until 2033 As they were supposed to be both shut down in 2023, but DAB isn’t as popular because reception can be bad in many areas, but in the cities and major towns reasonably ok and sets are dearer and batteries don’t last long,so this radio will usable for many years to come.
