For the write-on books, at least sometimes the writing does not work. You have to first show the writing toolbar by pulling down the top menu and hitting the three dots to select show writing toolbar. Then it worked for me and others.
Don’t know why boox 3 allows you to write on any format including epub while kindle scribe still can’t do it. It isn’t a technology issue but a software one that someone else already solved
Excellent, very informative, THANKYOU. If possible tho, be good if you spoke slower & had a kinda footnote/dictionary explaining jargon used. I, like many, do not understand different digital tech words/abbreviation’s etc. I like many find all these devises rather concussion. Your video is , so far, the best explanations /tips I’ve found on just how to use my new kindle. THANKYOU
What do you think of AndroidOS-based e-ink devices in general? A match made in heaven or does the user onboarding process need some improvement? You summed up my boox reaction perfectly. I've tried the Note Air 2, the Nova Air and Nova Air C and the Page. Loved the look and feel and flexibility but in each case I ended up selling or returning the device because I spent more time fiddling with settings than actually reading, especially when I like to switch between Pocket articles, my kindle library and my side loaded books. Just wasn't worth the effort for me. I don't love that Amazon has such a monopoly tho so my compromise was to get a Kobo device (tried them all, settled on the Libra Colour) and am very happy, tho I still have my Oasis!)
Had my palma for about a month, absolutely love it especially when i want to leave my smartphone at home and pair it with my Nokia dumbphone, great offline device especially if you use it with downloaded spotify playlists... and the fact you're not locked into a single bookstore ecosystem like amazon etc, i found i got through way more books on this than any other device
A great comment and thanks for posting. What do you think are the advantages of not being locked into Amazon? I haven’t come across a book yet that I can’t get hold of via the Kindle bookstore. Are ebooks significantly cheaper elsewhere, or is there some other advantage I haven’t thought of (other than maybe not wanting to feed the monolith that is Amazon!)?
@@mark_kelly Amazon definitely does have the largest library but i read things in a variety of languages so it's not always essy to find in the main stores which is part of why i chose the palma aside from the fact that it's phone sized
You can also use that with Adobe Scan which is a far superior app and does a wonderful job scanning even multiple page documents. It automatically corrects for the borders by detecting the document and even fixing aspect ratio.
I recorded a Short showing you how to manually update your Kindle Scribe if it hasn’t yet automatically updated. I hope it is useful to you - ru-vid.comPVh4rniF8cY?feature=share
@@mark_kelly Thank you! I appreciate your help and that you did a follow up in the first place. Just gave it a watch and I will try your solution out a.s.a.p.
Love my Palma. A crucial feature is Google Play Store. All my apps are there, including Kindle, so easy. I guess you are approaching it as an Apple guy.
it's significantly more versatile than a kindle.. the fact that you can literally install any apk on it justifies the price.. but that's all down to perspective aswell, and don't ignore the fact you can literally install other book/library apps so you're not locked into Amazon's eco system alone
What you are really talking about here is the impregnable monopoly that big tech has over publishing. It's a very sad state of affairs and not something to celebrate.
Well, I weighed it for you! 943g. The way it nicely folds up means it is perfectly portable, not awkward and, in my opinion, certainly doesn’t feel hefty.
@@mark_kelly apologies, Mark. Howev, I find it quite ridiculous that something so small can be double the price of my Kindle paperwhite 2021,when my Kindle alone costs close to 4K, sometimes over 4K. Yes, I know it has to do with exchange rates, etc, but still, it's absolutely insane. I gave the video a thumbs down, not because of you, but because of this insanity!
I hear you and I appreciate the further information! That is ridiculous, I agree. (A thumbs down is still engagement as far as the RU-vid algorithm is concerned 😆)
@@mark_kelly I still love watching your channel though, and believe it or not, I'm going to have to save up for another Kindle, because mine is very nearly full. I don't have a computer right now, and a great many of my ebooks are free sideloaded books, hence I can't delete them yet. I need a pc first. Will keep watching your channel, because you do great work.
While I do agree it’s very expensive and sympathize with your frustration, it’s not entirely comparable to kindle. It’s an android device that can access the google play store and more.
When I go into Device Options (as per your instructions at time 4.27), my menu is different from yours? I was looking for 'Display Cover' to set it on, but it's not an option for me? Any ideas? Thanks.
I found it!! Took a while, its in 'Screen.& Brightness'! How odd it's in a different place than on yours! I'm still learning everything on mine as it's new (I've only had it a week). Doesn't help if things aren't in the same place from different peoples devices! LOL, never mind. Makes me look through the menus and I might find other interesting things.
I just got a Kindle Scribe and am learning everything it can do, this was helpful! Thanks. Other videos were from when it first came out and all moaning about the functions it didn't have, whereas your video lists the updates and most of those functions seem to have been added! It's good that Amazon listen to the feedback.
Glad it was helpful! If you haven’t seen this already, there is an even more recent video I recorded about another software update that you might be interested in - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ONiFqfs-DeQ.html. Enjoy your Scribe! 😁
I just bought it, Prime Day - even though Amazon decided to take a few months before shipping it to me lol If the edge is missing, why not just tilting it?

I love my kindle scribe it's great for work. 2 things I would like to see. Firstly, I use cornell notes and whilst I can use a lined page to do this I would like a notebook with this as the base. It messes up the convert to text function. Secondly, and this is a ridiculously adult request. I want to lock my kindle library. I have adult books on there for crying outloud and don't want them showing up when I open up my scribe in a meeting!!! Could they just separate the 2!!!?
I don’t think you’re going to get the brightness you say you’re after from an eink display and maybe a more traditional tablet - like a Kindle Fire - might be for you?

Thank for your question and what a feature that would be! And to answer, you can write directly on PDFs using the stylus, making annotations and notes as you read. However, as of the latest updates, there is no built-in feature to convert handwritten notes directly into typed text on the device itself even when exported.
It’s been a while since I owned a reMarkable so not sure the state of software. It’s certainly possible but you’d have to ask the company directly for an up-to-date answer.
Such excellent reviews, Mark - thank you! A question: can text from a kindle book be selected or lassoed, then copied and pasted into a notebook? This is a very important feature to me! Thanks very much!
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a lovely comment and interesting question! Unfortunately, as useful as this might be, you can’t directly copy + paste text from a Kindle book into a notebook.

prime day had it cheap and the 256gb version at 530, even if they release mini 7 tomorrow the thing wont be cheap and also do not expect them to put oled and promotion display neither, now it could be even cheaper but i doubt it its apple its always overpriced.
I purchased a Scribe in the recent Amazon sale in the UK. My thoughts: 1) Excellent screen real estate. 2) It's heavy and with a case heavier still. And it really does need a case. Kindle screens are delicate and are easily damaged. That's why I haven't gone the clear case for the back and sleeve route. 3) I own a 7th and an 11th generation Paperwhite. At least in a darkened room, with the backlight on, the screen in terms of brightness is comparable to the 7th generation. The Scribe is not even close to the 11th generation which gives off a lovely white light that is clear and almost pristine. Side by side the Scribe's screen looks greyer and darker. This obviously means that the contrast is not as good on the Scribe and makes reading more difficult. Perhaps mine is faulty. In any event, I'm going to ask for a replacement to check this out. 4) Not concerned about notes. I have an iPad and computer for that and I very rarely write notes when I am reading.
i was hoping you could help me out, i have received my Scribe today, checked afor all updates (it say's i'm up to date) but the different template feature is not there for me? edit; would you believe, the update has just come through, great channel, thank you
Bought a Kindle Scribe this prime day since the price for 64GB Version with the premium pen was 307€. Thanks for your review, this sealed the deal for me
These are indeed great updates - thanks for the demo! I just ordered a Scribe today (great Prime Day deal!), and your videos have helped me so much in both making my decision, and also feeling much more informed as to how to start making it the more versatile workhorse I need it to be! Thank you - I subscribed as well! 👍👏👏👏👏👏😊
Hey ! I hesitated between the scribe and the 3C. I will use the scribe because of the build quality. It does less but better in my opinion. Could you give to us already your first thoughts about which device you think you'll prefere ?
I prefer the Scribe but I’ve had this for a long time now and I’m very used to how it works. I’m still working through the Boox and my view may change. It has a LOT of options but sometimes too much is too much!
