Great project mate. It looks so much better than the plane new build wall. The tape pull was impressive too, such a man thing to turn removing tape into a sport.
Thanks very much! I have found it to be a beast with anything I have put through, I have a few videos where I make a table/chopping board/boxes out of sapele and I use the thicknesser on those, all came out great! I’m about to try mahogany so keep an eye out for that video!
Ha, this could be me, currently going through the same process with a nearly identical Kity 635 off marketplace. Setting the blades is a right pain - I believe some models have more proper adjustment built-in, but not these, so to some extent you're fighting the springs. I need to rewatch the bit with reference lines a few times as I'm still slightly unsure what will work...
Honestly it’s a great bit of kit but I’m dreading having to change the blades next time haha 😂 I think there’s a jig that I could make to make the process easier, have some thoughts so if I ever come to make it I’ll make a video!
Well now, this is a bit of a coincidence because I got struck with a bout of insomnia a couple of weeks ago when at 2:30am I suddenly thought that if I were to move this big metal shelving unit I have I’d be able to re-do one wall of my shop as a mitre saw station so guess what my current project is as well? …Snap. Have a feeling it’s going to end up being an insanely long video, haha.
The 2:30 AM ideas are always the best ones haha 😂 looking forward to seeing yours come together, no doubt you’ll get there before I do so Ill be stealing some ideas I am sure!
@@thornedesignco I wouldn’t bet on it, reckon it could take me a few months in total, four stages of actual building / making plus a lot of clearing out and moving stuff in between. Like you I suspect I’ll need to ditch a lot of scrap wood that’s just a bit too small to really hold onto. Looking forward to seeing yours too.
Exciting times mate. Your Ideas seem solid. Bench / mitre station on one side and then things mounted on casters. That was one of the best upgrades I made. Some nice new toys, looks like it’s all coming together! Can’t wait to see how it looks at the end.
Thanks mate - going to be a long process getting it to where it needs to be but I guess that’s all part of the fun! Glad to hear a similar set up works for you, always good to know you’re on the same track as those who actually know what they are doing haha 😂
K so I’m jealous of the bandsaw and surprised at how big the disc part of the sander is, it looks great! Hey, before the end of summer build a shed for all the life stuff and have the whole workshop LOL Keep it up dude!
The shed argument has raged on since we got the house - I will persist haha! Paid £70 for the sander, think it turned out a bargain in the end 😄 thanks mate 🙏
nice video. did you manage to set up any sort of dust collection to it ? i have the same machine and the only issue i have with it is too much dust allover the place
In my latest video you can see the absolute chaos this machine causes with dust/chips… I think it needs a custom 3D printed collection chute for the top, or I could crudely put together something out of wood. I need to get a bigger collection system as I don’t think the shop vac could cope haha! Let me know if you find a solution at all as I would be keen to copy!
I stuck it to the end some good ideas I'm in the process of getting some French cleats up on the walls. Have given you a follow-up as well Good luck with the channel
Im planning on adding french cleats to my concrete brick wall. And was about to use firring strips with insulation, then a piece of plywood, then the cleats. But if im not mistaken, from your part 2, this is more of a freestanding unit, but held to the wall for stability with some metal brackets yeah?
Nice! After watching some more videos I also now plan to go with fixing it directly to the wall. So far thinking double bubble or thin foam insulation, treated firing strips, 1/4 birch plywood sheets, then 3/4 cleats.
Actually change of plans. Regular 2x4s laid flat every 16 imches, fastened to the concrete blocks, with 1 1/2 foam insulation to fill the gaps. Might only used treated wood as a base board slightly off the ground since my brick is dry and above ground.
Yeah the wall you can see in this video is a party wall with another garage, so thankfully I don’t have to worry too much about wet - considering insulating it and the external wall anyway, as it does get bloody cold in the winter!
I think there are some decent plates you can pick up at reasonable prices - I enjoy the process of building them but if I took in to account the cost of my time it is definitely more cost effective to buy one!
@@thornedesignco I know that feeling… “Do I want to get this done in something approaching a reasonable time frame or do I want to make a video about it?” is an often-considered thought.
Let me know if any questions - as I put in the description this is less of a how to and more of a documentation of what I did, probably got half of it wrong, and the other half not very right!
Great stuff mate and great entertainment! Works ok I guess for a medical torture device, but please be careful as I can envisage a few spine tingling moments 🤣
Best not to pass your fingers over the cutter. If there is a fault in the wood it could break and rout your fingers. I know because decades ago I trimmed one of my fingers, fortunately by very little. Great video. I’m going to try it. Off to the iron ware shop.
