Building the simplest router lift design I could find on YouTube (simple, cheap DIY Router table)

If you have been looking for a simple router lift design for a router table, I have thankfully watched 10 million hours of youtube looking for the simplest one!
I found a video by GVM corner, which was by far the cheapest and simplest solution, that needed the least amount of specialist tools. All told, it cost £15 (some scrap ply wood, nuts, bolts, threaded rod, chain and some hooks!)
This video should hopefully be an in depth look at the process, and I show the results at the end. It will answer:
- How to build a simple router table
- How to build a simple router lift
- How to build a cheap router table
- How to build a cheap router lift
I use the Bosch POF 1200 AE, but it should work on most plunge routers!

Nice one fella! I’d get a washer between the plywood and the head of the adjuster screw on top of the table. Especially using a drill may weaken the plywood. I do love those sketches as well 👍👍

Ah yes that’s a good idea! I’ll get that done, I can imagine using the lift and then the screw just disappearing one day haha 😂 and thank you, need to get a 3D model software that I can record I think!

I would put a washer under the table insert too - between the rotating locked nuts and the plywood.

I love the lift. Simple, cheap, and sturdy. I wonder I'd you might even take one more link off chain out for a bit higher lift. I love the honesty of your build, I'd also led to some entertainment. I think we can all identify with "DOH" moments that you demonstrated. Thanks again for the video!
@thornedesignco
@thornedesignco 7 месяцев назад
I actually did end up going one link further up the chain to raise it higher - works wonders now! And thanks very much, just make these for a bit of fun while I’m learning, so you’ll be unsurprised to hear there are many more of those moments than what makes it in to the video 😂

Best not to pass your fingers over the cutter. If there is a fault in the wood it could break and rout your fingers. I know because decades ago I trimmed one of my fingers, fortunately by very little. Great video. I’m going to try it. Off to the iron ware shop.

It felt sketchy as I did it, appreciate the advice, will come up with a fingerboard system I think! Let me know how you get on with it 😃

Hi pal, I am glad I've found your video as I was looking for something fairly simplento makr and I also have the bosh router. Just one thing that I just discovered, get a collet/shank extension, it basically allows the router bit to go way higher up. I've seen one for about £20 on Amazon.

I think there are some decent plates you can pick up at reasonable prices - I enjoy the process of building them but if I took in to account the cost of my time it is definitely more cost effective to buy one!

@thornedesignco Make sure to check the shaft diameter. For as far as I saw the extreme extension adapter only comes in 1/2 inch which doesn’t fit this model router. If you find anything that does fit please let me know. Also another problem with extension is the limited travel on this model. Only 5,6cm, so your bit will be too high in many cases.

@@barthijwegen5448 Google - Amazon 6mm to 6mm router bit extension rod. To solve the height problem, just lower a link or two in the chain.

Sharp tools in blunt hands , but it seems you did manage to maintain all your appendages . Word to the wise experimentation with equipment that rotates at such high speed , is not necessarily the best course of action . But ha we did go to the moon apparently . Bless you. 😂

Great video. Only one I've found using a Bosch router like mine, gonna try this . By the way, is that an Einhell table saw , and if it is where did you source the long rip fence, have been trying to find one for mine.

Why did you not detach the base from the router to take the springs out that will always be compressed when the router is up. Take the springs out to take the pressure off the lift and it will give you more adjustable height.
@thornedesignco
@thornedesignco 6 месяцев назад
Hey! I think this system only works because the springs allow it to lower (I.e., I do not think gravity alone would lower the lift) - I may have misunderstood your question so apologies if so!
@nigelwillis6643
@nigelwillis6643 6 месяцев назад
If your thread assembly is correct you should be able to raise and lower the router turning it up or down.
@thornedesignco

I have incorporated a system that does this in a new router table design I am building - should hopefully get to it and have a video up in a few weeks time, thank you!
