planning to buy this bag right now (planning to use it for summer as i'm always cold and would rather just zip it out) and this is the only review I found. thanks man! <3
If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be between 6 and 7 liter. I would recommend using a different type of packing bag like the one which is included. This way, you can get the packing size even smaller. 👍
@Furnus105 I would say that both are very comfortable, but the Mammut is more plastic/nylon feeling on the inside compared to Helsport. Although you can't compare it to some other cheap sleeping bag kind of plastic.
Hi, thanks for sharing. Im really interested on this topic. I would like to share my point of view about combining 2 sleeping bags. Could it be better to layer the down bag inside with the synthetic on top? I mean , it makes sense to have the down one on top to allow it to reach the biggest loft possible . But if you put the down bag inside, it could fill up the empty spaces near your body avoiding dramatic cold drafts when moving, and also we could benefit from managing better the condensation and humidity problems, because our heat will move the humidity ( Wet clothes, body vapor...) to the outer layers of the synthetic bag, when it can get condensated and/or frozen, even before reaching the exterior. Synthetic works better with humidity than down, also offering better management of humidity and condensation from our bodies, fabrics, floor, tent walls and the enviroment itself. I understand that in this option a too heavy synthetic bag on top of the down could compress too much the down affecting the loft and being contraproductive. The thing is where is the best balance? Some brands like Helsport uses this option. Give a look to the Spitsbergen sleeping bag. Aren you still using your Isbjørn Bjornøya? What are your thoughts and opinion after some years of use? How is it compared to the 2 bags system? What kind of use do you give them? Thanks in advance, im really interested on sharing thoughts !
I use either of them separately in summer weather. In winter I combine them. On a warm summer night I just open the sleeping bag totally and use it as a quilt.
Just got myself a 1950s KRUPS "Perla", for 5EUR...and it works like a charm, too. No batteries, no electronics, just refined mechanics...and (to me) there is an "aura" of fine craftsmanship to these old-school instruments that none of the modern digital scales have, regardless of their obvious convenience.
The one in this video is a Helsport Alta Pro. I am very satisfied with it. Can be somewhat bulky compared to a down sleeping bag, but this one performs better in moist climate 🙂
It does work. My tent remained waterproof for at least 2 years. It probably would have worked longer if my tent didn't wear out. Keep up the good work 👍
Seems to me there are either some kind of seasonal mating flies that the ants are takimg advantage of as free food, or this is a seasonal male ant colony being repossessed for their reproductive benefits.
That brand of silicone isn't pure and is mixed with other ingredients. It's poor quality for waterproofing. You should only use the completely clear stuff that says "100% silicone" because it does a far superior job and lasts longer.
I think that is because its more sticky. There are brands whcih say they are the most sticky and grab better than any other so they may actually work even better
@@Golden-dog88 I don't make RU-vid videos, so why do you assume I've made one? But if you are ever waterproofing something, use the completely clear stuff. It will actually have "100% silicone" printed on the side. My waterproofed camping bags have taken some heavy downpours like champs and have seen some heavy use.
Actually there are three kinds of wild snakes over here. The common European viper, the grass snake and the smooth snake. Only the viper is venomous in Norway.
The name of the tent is Bacpacker 1 by Helsport. I'm not sure if it's still in production. I would always advise to buy a double walled tent. Due to condensation issues with single walled tents in general. I always pack ducktape 👍
Same from me, thank you! Ultimately decided to get the Mammut Performance Down on sale (-1c comfort, -7 limit). It is my first down sleeping so I’m a bit anxious about the moisture affecting the performance (I mostly hike in Bavaria and Austria, super humid at night, especially during the shoulder season). Would you recommend some DWR treatment, like a water repellent spray? Or would that be harmful to the down?
@@Gjegordj You could apply DWR as an extra protection against condensation from your tent leaking or falling onto your sleeping bag. I think these Mammut bags are treated with DWR already.
If you use clear transparent silicone it'll be nearly invisible. I used grey coloured silicone and applied it with a brush. This gave it better camouflage. My area is a bit rocky. After this long time I didn't maintain it any way and it is still totally waterproof. 🙂
