Welcome to Culture Explained, where we cover the lives of the artists & creators responsible for having an impact on our culture. The life of an artist is always less known than the work they're responsible for, and I want to explore that lesser known side of that individual.
Two random comments: * My first exposure to this book was in Afrikaans (a language spoken only in SA) * My daughter's ears perked up (she is 8) when Laura Ingalls Wilder was mentioned... Really enjoying her Little House series at the moment.
Thank you for this documentary presentation. I saw Charles Schulz's grave in Healdsburg, California while doing a US military funeral ceremony. God bless all of you.
Repent and trust in Jesus. He's the only way. We deserve Hell because we've sinned. Lied, lusted stolen, etc. But God sent his son to die on the cross and rise out of the grave. We can receive forgiveness from Jesus. Repent and put your trust in him. John 3:16 Romans 3:23❤😊❤❤
I played Charlie Brown in high school, although my love for the strip began much earlier. I highly recommend Schulz and Peanuts. A very compelling read.
Wait a minute. You claim that the Peanuts cartoon died with Schulze. I met one of two cartoonists who carried on after Schulze died. The cartoonist lives near me and spoke at our church. The cartoon is obviously alive and well in the hands of two much younger artists. Schulze himself selected the two artists to carry on his legacy. The story of how the cartoon survived Schulze’s death is an important part of the full story. How could you leave that out?
It was Charles M Schultz--Schultz with a T--back in the day, one if the quintessential Mandela Effect examples. Weird.Everyone wants to say that it's me whose memory is faulty. But no. It was Schultz with a T. It was.
Thank you for this. For the past few years I've forgotten to put out my Peanuts toys during the holidays; I will make an effort to honor him this year. A life lesson for us all that broken, flawed people can still leave beauty and a lasting legacy in this world.
Looked up his wealth out of curiosity. He was a actual billionaire ! That was when they were very rare indeed. Poor poor Charles Schulz also cheated on his wife. We should feel so sorry for him and his sad childhood. Please. This story is just plan silly.
I remember, while teaching Portuguese at Brigham Young University (Missionary Training Center) sometime around 1979-80, meeting Amy Schulz as she prepared to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Portugal!😊
to the creator of this video: I commend you. Your commentary is brilliant. When you say that "most of us are more familiar with failure than success" that is seriously insightful
I don't know for sure, but when I worked for the church in the 1960's, "Peanuts" was the main financial contributor to St. John's Cathedral, "St. John's the Unfinished," in Manhattan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_St._John_the_Divine It's still unfinished, with, who knows? maybe another hundred years to go, but I suspect, don't know but stongly suspect, that Snoopy and his friends will be paying a lot of the bills all the way.
Charles Schulz was a miserable coot. I used to go to the Santa Rosa (peanuts themed) skating rink with my friend who was prepping for Olympic figure skating (ca. 1988)- so we'd be there when it was a closed rink, pro training only. Schulz was in the cafeteria literally by himself, as no public and minimal trainers were there. Another girl (skates on, clearly training) approached him and he signed her an autograph. This gave me (a clearly not training, four-eyed tomboy) the courage to go and ask the same. He looked me dead in the face and said "If I sign one for you, I'll have to do one for everybody." The place was a ghost town. There was no "everybody." Probably 15 people in the whole building, most of whom couldn't care less about an autograph. I hated Snoopy ever since.
Worst cartoon ever. Here funny. Always made for adults without any sense of humor. I belief he was disturbed. Who would will such hot garbage on the world. I wish he never picked up a pencil.
much thanks to this man... his characters made my childhood in the 80's so much more fun especially when it came to *reading... my especially bought me a set of "Peanuts" themed encyclopedias i constantly went thru them for years which helped my reading, understanding, English grammar classes/ meaning of words and more than anything as well encouraged my writing... #respect
Both me dad and meself made us both think of Snoopy when I told him about one of my cousin's dogs ( an ALASKAN MALAMUTE) who would stay on top of his doghouse. Very comical and amusing, like Snoopy would sleep on his sometimes. 😅😁😇
Prior to my birth on July 1st 1967, my older sister was excited about having a baby brother. She was running around telling everyone, " I'm gonna have a baby brother, and we're going to name him Charlie Brown!" She thought all babies looked like Charlie Brown, and a nickname was born. To this day people call me Charlie and my legal name was only ever used by my parents for legal purposes. Thus is the power of a simple comic strip. I hope you find this amusing. Sincerely, Charlie Brown
I met Mr. Shultz Days before he passed on at my office at a Ford Dealership in Santa Rosa. He came in and traded a new Jaguar for a Mercury Capri. Told me his daughter had bought the Jag for him and it was too much for him. He was so modest. I did all his paperwork for him and we chatted for hours. When he left he gave me his autograph and told me he would be doing his last Peanuts strip that coming Sunday as he was retiring. That Sunday as I walked up to the newspaper stand, the headline in the San Francisco times was, "Charles Shultz dies in his sleep overnight"! The day of his last strip he passed on. Peanuts ended and so did this wonderful mans stay on earth. Truly a remarkable story. I was blessed to have met him if only to have a glimpse of his greatness.
Thank you, great summary and thanks for the links for those who want to dig deeper. Sonoma County Airport (STS/KSTS) in Santa Rosa named the airport after Charles M Schulz, because he lived his final years in Santa Rosa. Since Snoopy was an avid aviator with his flying house, he created a beautiful logo for the airport.
Not a; FUN FACT, but true fact. It is an example of life. Nothing more, or less. Charlie Brown help all of us deal with odities all of us find ourselves in. Thanks, Shulz. I know ya helped alot of us.
I knew SCHULT’s daughter when I lived in California. She was a screwed up person and pretty much hated her father. He was never around for her and she suffered from dead, dark depression. Not a sliver of happiness in her. Very sad. A lonesome childhood is something is not recoverable.
Peanuts never ran in the St. Paul newspapers (Pioneer Press and Dispatch). Apparently, the disagreement with the St. Paul papers early on in his career was deep and there was a grudge. I don't have proof of this, but it makes sense.
