Hi, I got it from eBay. This was the description: Silent RV Roof Air Vent Fan for Travel Trailer Van Outlet Ventilation System I fitted a resistor to the 2 position switch so it gave me a slow and fast speed. it’s fairly quiet and pulls plenty of air.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, we really appreciate it. I was trying to keep a modern minimalist look to it. I saw the Recarco fabric and loved it, I knew it would tie it all together nicely with the greys 👍 It would have given us more room as well if I removed the bulkhead, but I decided to keep it in the end for a couple of reasons. Insulation. And stealth 👍 I insulated the whole inside of it and it’s so warm inside, if I’d have removed the bulkhead a lot of heat would go straight out of the glass and the windows would steam up. And I can have the lights on really bright and not be seen at all…perfect for stealthing 👍
Fabulous job 👏 Well done 😊 not sure I could do with all the grey & anthracite . Alot of artificial insulation added - think I would look at more natural materials such as Cork etc...
Thank you for the lovely comment Heather ☺️ We love the colours and thought it ties the whole van together, I don’t know if you have anything similar? But I’m sure you would make it lovely and with some nice fabrics that suit you 🫶🏼
It folds away to under the seats and 2 of the boards go behind the passenger seat. I’m going to do a walk around video soon explaining everything in detail, so keep a look out for that 👍
Thank you. During that video they were 235/40 R18 as that's what was on the wheels when I bought them. I've since needed replacement tyres, and I went with the size that originally came on the Focus ST's. These are 225/40 R18 and they were about £15 cheaper each tyre on the Bridgestone one's that I put on.
Hi Kirsty, thank you for taking the time to comment. No, they were just some lighting wires before I finished them off, and also a hair dryer and straighteners that I store in there. I have the battery and electrics next to the fridge in the rear. I'm going to do a walk around video soon , so I'll try to remember to cover it in that.
12:13 , 19:26 минуте видно ржавчина, надеюсь 🤞🏻 её обработали цинком , жалко если будет ржаветь. Машина тёплая👍но спать и находиться в ней было бы мне трудно , окно 🪟 желательно 😅
Hi, these were only rust stains as the previous owner hadn't put any bolts into the roof mounting points after they had a roof rack on it. So there was no need to treat once I put bolts back into the holes to seal from the rain.
Thank you for the positive comment, it's great to hear. I hadn't done anything like this before, hence why I chose a cheaper van to base the conversion on. But I'm so happy with how it turned out, and I'm definitely going to do another one in the future. I have an engineering background, so I enjoy projects like this and enjoy the challenges. The main research I had to was on the insulation. I watch a lot of RU-vid videos to learn what to use (and what not to use) as there is a lot of videos of people using the wrong type of insulation on camper conversions.
I've not added it all up yet. I planned to do it more on a budget, but when I started, I changed my mind and made it to the standard I would be happy with.
Great quality video especially in 4k , I'm from Carlisle and live in the estate just over the road from where you parked !!!- scenery is possibly even more stunning further North on the West coast, basically it's the west coast of the NC 500- drive from Kyle to Strathcarron is probs one of my favourites stretches - you also need to do Torridon . Poss best not to do NC500 in height of summer - just look for a gap in the weather out of season and go for it.
Thank you ☺️ it’s great to know that the videos get watched in 4K, that’s why I don’t normally include any footage from my drone, as that’s only 1080p…but when funds allow I will upgrade 👍🏻 Wow, I can’t believe we were that close to where you live, that’s crazy! Thank you for the tips. We will be back one day as it’s so beautiful up there, so we’ll check out the places that you mentioned and hopefully spend a bit more time exploring next time.
Hello can I ask about the rubber tiles you used for the Sound deadening ? I see them in Costco but wonder how they are when used in this way .Can you advise if you used on the Sides also
Hi Barry, they are closed cell foam tiles that I bought from my local Halfords, I mainly used them to insulate the floor as they’re nice and thick and don’t absorb water. As far as I can tell, they do a great job as the van holds the heat in really well with these and all the other insulation that I used throughout the van. I didn’t use them on the sides, what you can see on the video is a 10M roll of 10mm foam insulation, where one side is sticky backed and the other side is foil, it was designed to be used for this exact purpose and is great 👍 I got this from eBay.
Am I detecting the dulcet midland tones? In from Walsall and we’ve just bought a plot of land in Scotland to build a strawbale house, which we hope to do a RU-vid on. I’ve been a bit nervous of the speaking parts because I’m quite broad, so it’s good to see a few midlanders doing it. Good luck. Subscribed 👍🏻
That sounds a really exciting project Graham! You definitely need to document that from start to finish 👍 Let us know what your RU-vid channel is called and we’ll subscribe, we’ll be interested to watch the transformation.
Ian - Becks. Similar to what has already been said stunning landscape, who's the dab hand with Go Pro cos you can't take all the credit away from Becks Ian haha. I saw a snip of what you were going to upload but on TV screen it certainly does justice to your photography. Maybe time for a drone to capture those shots that are impossible without one. I'd lend you mine but doubt I'd get it back.
We were very lucky! It was over Easter and it was only the first day (the Thursday) that was the worse rain. But that just made the videos and photos that I took look more dramatic 👍🏻
Thank you for your kind words 😊 I’ll do a little walk through of the awing in a future video as you’re interested. It was something that I made myself to keep the cost down.
@awaywiththehills Yes I noticed it was a homemade one , nothing wrong with that at all. That's why I was interested to see it and a video would be great to see. All the best.
Hi Paul, they are Focus ST seats that I put in…they are so much more comfortable. They aren’t a straight fit, you have to swap a couple of the legs over from one seat to the other. But not too hard.
Dude 😵 that is probably the best insulated van I've seen on YT 😎 kudos on the conversion 👌 I have a tourneo connect I insulated last year, I did a good job but you surpassed me by an extra layer 👍 Love the overcab locker and the recaro cushion covers made me just dam jealous 😁
Thanks for the very kind positive comment. It turns out that I insulated so much that I need to have the roof fan on even when it’s zero degrees outside!🤣
@awaywiththehills sweet, good insulation AND ventilation, IME ventilation is the only way to control condensation but it's hampered by poor insulation, you now have the perfect combination 👌
@@awaywiththehills you did a great job one of the best I've best seen tbh. Would you consider doing one for me? I'm thinking of buying a connect for a conversion actually been wanting to do one since the lockdowns.
at last another couple who take on a chalenge together we have use tent in storms caravan in storms work van in yep you guessed storms flambrough coast is a great place to wake up in a storm 2am lol but better with a partner
