This is normal. It’s considered a "Temperature based performance driving profile" when ambient temperature is high/hot. In warmer weather, your turbocharger requires more power to operate and the engine struggles to make power. The ecu accommodates this by raising the shift point so that you make a little more power. German engineering at its best 👍👊
The air flow is NOT up. The up arrow is simply telling us which side goes up. Air flow is down which explains why dirt collects on the top side of your old filter. All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter have downward air flow otherwise the blower motor would be full of dirt and debris.
I've dealt with the same problem. I've replaced the filter but want to do a little more. Does anyone know where the external fresh air intake is located? I can't find it on the car or on the internet anywhere.
I would dig around a bit more on my car but no longer have this car so I can't search. Usually they're up near the windshield (but not always) Best of luck!
I've never had a cabin filter get to smelling SO bad SO often... My last car (BMW) I had for 9 years and only changed the filter twice, and one was after a catastrophic oil leak and full engine degrease. This car I've had for 4 years and had to change the filter 3 times. Thanks for the Vid. Very helpful
Yeah I had a few vw/Audi's and they only seem to last 12-16 months unless maybe you live in a desert climate. BMW I have now is 2 years old and never noticed any weird smells
@@sethssd Living in Iowa, we definitely go from Dry to Wet and back every year. The BMW never really had a problem. The Audi however smells like a FOOT when the rain comes in during Spring (right now). I got a filter waiting at home to swap out tonight! Thanks again for the vid!
So glad I found this video done by someone who knows what he's doing and not some spoiled 16 year old who points the camera at himself 90% of the time. Thanks!
Just changed mine thank you for this video. Was getting feet smells. Hope this takes care of it. **Follow up** changed it yesterday. Smell is completely gone. Filter cost $17 at the dealership might be able to get it cheaper online but the scent was too much. Drove the car last night no scent. Drive again this morning no scent. You can spray ba little something on the filter make the car Smell good. I did this after testing to make sure the scent was gone. It was 3x heavier than a new filter that should explain the Smell
Thanks for video! I bought my car new. Forgot about cabin filter. I do have a question: Does this filter also filter the circulating inside air? (I rarely have outside air come in. Its either to hot and humid. Or too cold to to use. Not many weeks of good weather to use.)
Greg DeWitt I believe all air circulates through the filter whether you recirculate or draw from outside air. This appears to sit right in front of the blower wheel in the system
great video !! shouldnt the air flow go up since the fan blows it up? also a good idea is to run the ac without the filter for a while and spray lysol fabreeze or something like. mine was terrible and i mean terrible... now its stench free.
Pete Camaj since the blower turbine is below, I suspect the airflow is downwards, drawing air from the dash/outside wind screen intake. but I'm not the Auto engineer and could be wrong, I just reinstalled the way it came out.
fdfaith 28 they should have a book that has cabin air filters listed for all cars, just look up your model year. the mahle one got was from Amazon. Fram is also an ok brand they usually have at local Walmart's/auto zone, etc...
You mention that it smelled like feet. I have the same problem in my A3. Was that smell all times or only when cooling (AC on)? . Mine start to smell just after turning AC on. And the next day will remain the smell even without cooling on. If I don't start AC the for several days it won't be any smell.
Rafa Ruiz yes, when the AC was switching between hot/cold. the new filter should clear it out but might take a few days to clear out the old bacteria smell
I had a battery going bad on mine, so the alternator stressed and created some smells, the smell lingered in the filter. Something to consider as well.
I'm about to change mine out. I'm a little squeamish because I worry that some small animal died in the vent and that's what the smell is. Still, my desire to save money is greater than my fear of a surprise like that LOL.
