Was really sad to hear Pete Postlethwaite Died in 2011. He had a hard cancer fight. Beat testicular cancer but Pancreatic cancer got him if not that then lung cancer would have gotten him. He was in a lot of cool movies like a Jerasic park sequel and in the last of the Mohicans as a British officer.
I am 45 and lucky enuff to still have my father around. He worked his ass off to support the family but always took the time to spend with me and my brother. I'll never forget growing up us going out to the backyard during halftime of Bengals games and throwing the football around. He's a wonderful grandfather to my teenage daughter and He's my hero.
Funnily enough I read somewhere this was shown at the Sundance film festival in America (Robert Redfords film festival ) to good reviews . Pete postlethwaite rip
Always prompts thought of my father - born 1905 in a workhouse, onto a training ship aged 14 followed by thirty years at sea. How sad I am that he did not tell me more of those years.
Actually it's AndrewI. lived in Byfield where Sandy lived her last 4 years. Dave Swarbrick also moved to the village and Dave Pegg was in Cropredy about 6 miles away.. I was at Sandy's lasr ever performance in the village hall - (Swarb organised it to help fund the village hall) -and helped her out with the lyrics to Matty Groves which she was struggling to remember ( for which I got a kiss) - I was 22 and a Fairport fan.She seemed out of it and I thought drink or drugs, but she had had a bad fall a few days before ( see wikipedia) so perhaps it was concussion. She still sang like an angel and the last song they performed was 'Who knows where the time goes'. It was perfect. Afterwards I got them all to sign the sleeve of A History of Fairport.Convention, including a guy who Peggy said was going to be massive. Turned out to be the Fish - later of Marillion fame. 3 weeks later Sandy was gone. Can't believe that was 46 years ago. Her life was a car crash but that voice was a gift from somewhere else. Every time I hear it..........
I love this movie, and I am from Iowa with James Earl Jones passing away, I like to think of him as going into a cornfield as opposed to being Darth Vader
I love the moment when Ray says, "Hey, Dad?" and without missing a beat, his Dad immediately acknowledges him. No question, no hesitation; just a father hearing his child calling after him
Excellent film but watching and listening to the actual band that played this piece is something else, they just make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and your emotions run strong
En een eerbetoon aan de onvergetelijke acteur Pete Postlethwaite. Groeten van mij uit Holland. (And a tribute to the unforgettable actor Pete Postlethwaite. Greetings from me from Holland.)
Fast approaching 67 , I was a boy, now an old man , memories are all I have of a life well spent mostly ,a few mistakes a few regrets, hopefully a few more memories to come but where the hell has it all gone so quickly, a wonder song so very apt .
Well here we are 17 years after this was posted , and 14 years after the Tories began to wreck the country AGAIN, and we’ve finally rid of them so we can rebuid a better future. Magnificent piece of music and inspirational film.
One of the greatest songs ever written and this version is the best despite all the incredible covers. The guitar accompaniment by Richard thomspson is second to none and should be used as an exemplar to would-be guitarists of how to sensitvely accompany a moving, yet powerful singer.
