My name is Tarek Maalouf and I have decided to create MaxWaxPax.com so that I can teach my kids how to invest in an amazing hobby that I used to be a part of more than 30 years ago. After spending almost five years in a custody battle, January 2022 was our moment of victory and now I am making up for so much lost time. This is for me and my boys! We are doing this as a team and we will continue as a team. Please support our work, our company, and our efforts to make the most out of every minute of our day! Thank you and God Bless!
Good stuff! Just fixed a Fi-8170 to catolog my son's baseball cards we have been collecting together, and maybe to sell some of them on eBay to show him how business works. I saw you have another video on how to fix the mechanism in the scanner to make it not make stripes in the gloss. Good stuff, keep up the good work!
@@MrDrewHowerton no that’s not the issue. You can, but you take the risk of the scanner glass getting damaged. It is not a software issue but rather an issue with the top loaders having a slight imperfection that may catch the glass and permanently scratch it. Some people have not had an issue while some, like myself, experienced it writhing the first 50 scans. In either case, Fujitsu / Ricoh is not providing the glass as a replacement piece that you can order and swap out. My scanner was only a few days old and they were kind enough to warranty replace mine but I cannot imagine them doing this all the time and, if you are not within warranty, it is a very touch price to pay.
@@maxwaxpax Thanks for the quick reply. I should've clarified that I wasn't really referencing either software in particular, just the ability to scan top loaded cards in bulk without risking scratching the scanner. The whole reason I did so much research on buying a scanner and pairing it with an AI card software was to scan 10,000+ cards that are all in top loaders.
so i have done the same thing to mine. i have tried adjusting dpi res but didnt help? did find anything to fix ? or are we out the scanner lens? btw...your 3D parts work absolutley perfect on sleeves and raw cards thanks so much for those!! Paul
No. This glass can scratch from the top loader itself without anything. The glass is very sensitive to this and all it takes is one issue and then it is done for.
Scanning sideways still causes back to scan upside down on some cards. Look at Michael Fratello card at 25:19. So you will still have to subsequently rotate cards
I walked through this so many times but I need help because everytime I scan it makes me save as and the settings don’t stay the same. Cards are going into CDP swapped and backs are upside down.
This video helped me out alot when setting up the fi-8040 for scanning sports cards. Problem I have is when I have doubles it either says rename or will actually scan 2 of same card. Other than that I’d still be trying to figure out all the settings without the video. Ty
Can confirm, it does work. It was a bit scarry installing it but, it works. I scanned 5 cards with the original part and it had clear indentations. I ran another 5 cards with this 3-d printed part to compare. On one card I did notice the penny sleeve had a mark, but the card itself was perfect. Personally, I wouldn't want to sell cards after scanned with the original part.
Hey @MaxWaxPax - I removed these two pieces based on another video someone put out about the scratching. It definitely stops the scratching from happening but now I can't scan toploaders unless I manually feed them (super annoying). It basically won't automatically feed toploaders anymore (but it does work with raw cards and sleeved cards if I load them sideways). Is this expected? I feel like I missed something. Worst case I will just follow this video and try to put them back if need be. Thanks for any insight.
Hey Max - Ignore this previous comment, I went through your other videos and put the springs and stuff back and applied the tape fix and all is great!!! Thank you so much for making these videos and saving me many hours of trying to figure this out (especially the spring part).
ok so I have gone a ton of different options and here is what I can tell you. The BCW sleeves were very well for what I need and they are priced perfectly. Here is a link as I have some on my site but you can just as easily go to BCW and get them directly. I only have them because I stock so many for myself that it made no sense not to offer them to other people. maxwaxpax.com/search?options%5Bprefix%5D=last&q=sleeves

Do you know what dpi setting you can use with the 8170 when sending scans to card dealer pro, refractor cards look terrible at 300 dpi, but when I increase to 400 dpi, cdp will not process the scans.
Hello this is such a great video for the new user of the Fi-8170 or similar for trading cards load. I have a question regarding a white tin line streak going across some o the scans for 1962 topps that have the sleeve on them, do you know the cause of that. I have scan them without the sleeve and came out so far fine., but am weary about do that with other cards that are high gloss type to create some roller/wear line on them. I have removed the roller that was inside as you instructed and have been scanning them sideways with sleeves and without sleeves. Tested them both ways. Just if you know why thin line streaks occurs, some go all the way across and some at at the edges but at about same area. Thanks, Gabe
@MaxPaxWax was there any setting adjustments you had to do to get your chrome cards to look so nice in the scans? I just got the fi-8040 and my chrome cards are so dark they’re unusable. I’ve been looking around but can’t find any info on how to fix the dark scans. If the fi-8170 images are that clean I may have to return and upgrade. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
Just bought this scanner and will definitely be ordering this. Are you still advising against using this scanner for cards in toploaders? Thanks for the content! Glad to have found your channel.
Without a doubt there is no way I would use this scanner to scan top loaders. I Can tell you that it was not on my first run that it scratched. It took a while (maybe 100 cards) but then one happened to hit it the wrong way and that was that. To be clear, there is not fix from Fujitsu. They were kind enough to help me but that required a new scanner to be shipped. My take on this is not to use toploaders.
So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc.thanks a ton! we were a little delayed in getting these out due to the weather but we are now back up without issue.
I think I just done that mistake also I received the machine today and ran with topploadera and I believe I can see the lines also now after just a few toploaders run..
Oh no! I hope that is not the case. I think it is a terribly mistake for anyone to advertise this to be good with top loaders considering the risk of damage. I now see that some company is doing some auto feed top loader that can send a ton of them through and I am like "WTF" now you are just asking for it.
So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc.I was not shipping overseas but today I made an exception for a person in France. I can open international shipping but I just find that it is not cost effective. I offer the part for free to download and take to a person or company who has a 3d PRinter. however, if you cannot find that, then yes, just email me at tarek@maxwaxpax.com and I will get you setup.
So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc. I am grateful for your input and so glad to hear that it worked out well for you. I will be making more videos now that we are all set and back in working order. Let me know if I can ever help.
So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc.I am glad to hear that this video helped you and I am working to create some more that might be useful. Thank you for your support!!
Thanks allot for the video 👍 A quick question how does it work with Pokemon? Regarding the Pokemon back logo? Do you have any suggestions or recommendations how to set it up? Or should that settings work as you just showed? I just bought the scanner I don’t know how to use it.
So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc.I am sure you have found your answer by now, but in case you still have questions about this, I have scanned thousands of pokemon cards and once I changed the piece to the one that we created (to stop indentation issues) it was awesome!
So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc. I just want to thank you for your support! Appreciate your compliment on the mahomes card.
awesome video love the detective work! Do you find you often get streaks running down your scan images due to dust etc? Keen to hear how often you clean your lens and do you use any lens cleaners etc.
Loved this rip! If you have any Patrick Corbin’s from this rip that I missed in the video I’ll pay top dollar! I’m completing the rainbow from this set. Thank you!
Wow you had to raise hell to get some one to do the right thing and do there job. That sucks when you have to refund a buyer when you did your part. Glad you got it back.
This looks amazing! How does it hold up to non sleeved cards? I have a ton of bulk I want to send through the scanner, but not sleeve them all. Thank you!
David, I tested it on raw cards without sleeves and it worked well. Let me know if you have issues as there is always room to modify the part here and there as needed.
Thank you for the reply! Order has been placed. I've tried all kinds of tape and messing with that part, taking it in and out with not a lot of success. I was super excited when I stumbled on this video. Looking forward to giving it a go!
for most people it was pretty quick but is also depends on the cards. I scanned about 100K cards and did not notice it and then started noticing it more which prompted me to make this part.
So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc. Thank you so much for your support! Glad it all worked out for you
Question. How large are the images for each card? Trying to figure out the hard drive space this will take. I’ve been looking into image splitters a little bit too hopefully more easily separate the images from the sheets into 9 pictures, but no guaranteed remedy yet.
I am so sorry for the delay. I did not see the msg and the new software did not point it out to me. I have since fixed the issue and am now able to reply. I am not sure if you still needed help with this but if so, I would recommend that you go with an Ender 3 to start with. They are pretty tough machines and are work really well in all conditions. I have found them on ebay for under 100.00 and I believe that Microcenter has coupons so that you can walk in and get a new one for under 100.00 Again, very sorry for the delay to your msg. Hopefully the issue on my end is now resolved.
Thanks for the video. I can't get my cards to look good, for lack of a better term. The back of my cards all look fine, but the front all appear very dark. I noticed that your cards looked dark too. I am running the Mac version as well, just using Image Capture. The settings for "image correction" are not at all ideal. Thoughts? Tips? Please help!
