Hi my name is Natalie and I created Knitting-a-GoGo to show you my process of knitting as I knit patterns from the 1960s/70s (including some modern patterns) as well as designing my own knitting patterns.
I also recently started a small holding and currently have a flock of 7 sheep where I am in the process of having their fleeces spun into hand knitting wool 🧶🧶🧶
I look forward to sharing the process of ‘fleece to wool’.
If you’re interested in knitting but are a complete beginner and are not sure where to start, I’ll shortly be bringing my 10 plus years of knitwear design experience into creating some easy fun knit-a-long projects for you!

Really interesting to see the smocking process and I loved those buttons! I think we've all been there with a knit when we try it on and it's just not us! But as you say, it will definitely keep you warm this winter. Brilliant news that the fleece from your sheep has a good staple to be spun! I look forward to hearing all about it when you are top of the queue!
@@CraftsforWellbeing thanks for taking the time to watch my video Carrie and your lovely comments 🤗 I look forward to providing more updates on the wool 😃
I was interesting to see the Mary Quant pattern and also the smocking technique. I remember knitting with that type of yarn too and agree that it doesn't have the nicest feel. At least you have got it out of your system, if you hadn't knitted it you would still be thinking about it. You could also wear it to keep warm when working on your smallholding.
@@karenwhite2601 thank you for taking the time to watch my video 🤗 I’m pleased you agree about this type of yarn. That’s true, I can wear it to my small holding too as it does get cold there in the winter months 😃
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video Chris and for your kind comments 🤗 I’m pleased you agree it looks frumpy and it wasn’t just me. At least I’ll wear it in my studio in the colder winter months 🥰
@@aggierowe9574 thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your lovely comments 🤗 I have another video where I document knitting the KFO puff sleeve top 😃
The buttons are a perfect match. I remember the vintage styles of the 60s and 70s and knitted some of them at the time! The cardigan is really pretty and looks great on you.
@@karenwhite2601 it was a lovely place to visit and the real highlight of my trip to Jersey 😃 I also felt really lucky I was in Jersey on the Friday on the only day they open in the week 🤗
I very much enjoyed this podcast. Loved the trips to the yarn shops and seeing your purchases. That sparkle thread is fabulous - I remember a very long time ago (probably about 1974!) making a little sparkly gold top with something similar. I'm looking forward to watching when you are knitting the Knitting for Olive tops and also anything about your smallholding.
@@karenwhite2601 thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments 🤗 I love knitting with Sparkly yarns. I’ve recently been thinking about what I’m going to knit with this silver one 😀 I’ll be uploading a video soon about my small holding and I have another video where I talk about making the Knitting for Olive Puff Tee 🧶
You encouraged me to order a tote bag that I have wanted for a while. Good luck with the sheep I shall be really interested in watching your progress. Thanks for talking about budgets too - not many podcasters do :)
@@craftynia1077 thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments 🤗 I have set up an Instagram page called @smallflockyarnsuk as I recently found out that I can have their fleeces spun into hand knitting wool which is very exciting 😃 I am keeping regular updates on there on my little flock. I’ll also be doing a little video on RU-vid about my small holding soon 🐑🐑🐑
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments 🤗 I’m so happy with how this cardigan turned out and the yarn was really lovely to knit with 😃
Beautiful knit, Natalie! That pattern is gorgeous. Is was great to hear more about the Emu yarn - what a bargain - the materials for a jumper for £8! Thanks for the informative video, as always 😊
Glad you had fun in my city, buying yarns. I am a crocheter but I buy online cos there are no shops near me. Pimlico is a bit of distance for me, maybe one day.
@@scrappaddy thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments 🤗 I’m pleased it helped you in sourcing your knitting wool for your project 😃
Hello Natalie, I have subscribed to your channel. I really enjoyed you shopping I loved your bag. Myself I knit and crohet but I use the old fashion knitting needles.love Joan from Nottingham xx
@@user-nv8nk3im6w thank you for taking the time to watch my video Joan, I’m pleased you enjoyed it 🤗 I’ll be uploading another yarn shopping adventure soon in Jersey 🤩 xx
Yes please my nan passed a lot of really old patterns to me and I buy most of my yarn from the knitting network and they stock a lot of emu yarn so id love to see you knit swatches with newer yarns, especially as I find a lot of the newer acrylic yarns are thinner than the older yarns. Thank you for your channel. Its a breath of fresh air to find a yarn or knitting review from an english person on youtube, as most of them seem to be american knitters using yarn we're not able to get in the uk.
@@valrose242 thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments 🤗 That’s so nice of your Nan to give you some old patterns 💕💕💕 Ironically I’m shortly going to be uploading a video where I visited a yarn shop in Jersey that only stocked yarns from the US 😂 this is a one off as I was away on holiday in Jersey and needed my yarn shop fix 🧶🧶🧶. Normally the yarns I tend to use are UK or European based yarn companies 👍
@@saramerrick3539 thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments. I’ll be uploading some more videos of my vintage knits soon 🤗
Love your channel (and the sweater you are wearing in this episode!)! I really appreciate that you talk about yarn budgets and I also love hearing about your sheep!
@@mrsdefarge511 thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments 🤗 I look forward to sharing more about my little flock of sheep soon 🐑
@@knittingagogo I found a good UK website to buy from. They have so much variety. I love that you are doing retro patterns. My mother always like English Vogue knitting patterns from the '60s. She really didnt like the American version in the '80s.
@@isithometimeyet6553 that’s good you found a website in the UK to buy from 🤗 I have collected all the vogue pattern books from the 1960s and the designs are stunning 🤩 Did you see one of my earlier videos where I knitted a yellow lace dress from an original 1969 Vogue Knitting pattern? Fable knitwear has gorgeous puff sleeve patterns. Some of them are more dramatic than others. I can’t wait to get skilled enough to attempt one of her patterns. 😊
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for the Fable Knitwear recommendation….I had not heard of their patterns before. They are lovely 💕💕💕
Hello, I'm new to your channel and a relatively new RU-vidr. Like you I have recently knitted with yarn from Knitting for Olive for the first time. I have knit the Late Summer Wrap, using the merino and silk mohair. When you have done the swatch for your merino and mohair, you might be interested to know that Knitting for Olive do free worldwide shipping on your first order. It is so much cheaper, even when you have paid the tax to purchase direct from them. I really like all of your purchases, I need a trip to London to do a yarn pilgrimage soon! How cute to have your own flock of sheep! I think that will be a really lovely thing to document on your channel
Thank you for the information that’s really good to know 😃 I didn’t even think to look at purchasing on their online shop as didn’t realise about their postage offer. I’m going to be uploading a new video this week about the Knitting for Olive Puff Tee I recently knitted and what I thought of it and how it looks knitted etc 🤗
Lovely to come along virtual shopping with you Natalie and seeing what you bought. Lots of great projects in the making there, look forward to seeing them in the future!
I don’t knit, but have recently (last five years) been indulging my love of textiles by taking up headwrapping, selecting and purchasing scarves. Those colors you selected are lovely! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience here. I learn so much from listening to, and not just watching, talented women artists like yourself. ❤from this GenX Adult Human Female in northern California!
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your kind comments 🤗 I’m pleased you like my colour choices 😃 I look forward to sharing some more videos soon of my knitting projects 💕💕💕
What a beautiful knit, Natalie! It suits you perfectly. Thanks so much for showing the construction too, I liked that method of setting the sleeves in. And I also loved the way the collar was knit separately and sewn in - so much easier than picking up stitches to knit the collar in place! Thanks for sharing 😊
That yarn is gorgeous and so is the jumper. I love the more fitted and refined patterns from the past. What an interesting thing to find these yarns and patterns and make the classics.
Thank you for your kind comments and taking the time to watch this video 🤗 I’ve managed to find some more of this beautiful yarn in a different colour so will be knitting another 1960’s knitting pattern with it that I look forward to sharing 🧶🧶
Absolutely stunning dress, Natalie! 😍 I really felt for you when you said you would be unpicking the hem, been there! Thank you for sharing your solution, I always love to hear about the mechanics of knitting. Genius idea about adding an extra stitch for a circular cast on, I shall be using that technique from now on, thank you 😊
Im new to your channel have been following you on instagram. Im looking forward to future intallments, you have a lovely relaxing way of presenting, a pleasure to watch while I knit. Happy click clacking Tara
Wow! What an absolutely gorgeous knit, Natalie! Well worth all that hard work. The button you have had all that time sets the whole piece off perfectly. Stunning 😍
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video Carrie and for your kind comments 💕💕💕 I was so happy to have found the perfect button for this top in my stash! 😃 xx
Such a lovely top. Love the older English type of pattern instructions, I'm 65 and learnt this way finding the more modern written very difficult to follow. Love and always do that type of cast on 👍🏼 are you on instagram?
Thank you for your kind comment 🤗 It was the amazing puff sleeves that really drew me to knitting this gorgeous top. I also really like the instructions you used to get in the vintage patterns since I have spent a lot of my lifetime knitting from these types of patterns rather than modern ones. However, as a Knitwear designer, when writing for knitting magazines, I had to learn to write them in the standard modern way. It’s interesting how knitting a tension Square etc has changed over the years and I wonder what made it change from knitting a square over an inch for example, to then knitting it over 4 inches (or 10cm). My username on Instagram is @knittingagogo 🧶🧶🧶 I’m looking forward to uploading the second part of this video over the next few weeks 😊
I think it changed from 4 inches in the 70s with cm arriving, and also the arrival of more continental patterns. Also the new kid on the english block ... Rowan became a big trendsetter, with wonderful colours, textures and designer pattern along with other continental 'fancy' yarns and a different way of writing patterns. I wonder if others saw the trend change. 😊⚘️
You mentioned that maybe some 'itchyness' in older style wool, back in the days we would of worn a silk/satin/cotton lightweight vest 😅 just a thought to anyone if it does irritate xx
Absolutely beautiful dress, Natalie! I really like the saddle sleeves, great feature. I also enjoyed your analysis of the knit at the end, very informative. Thanks for filming it all!
Lovely, informative first video. Hope to watch more in the future. Have you seen vintage vixen blog she's into the 1960/70s? No relation. But may be of interest to you?
