This is about to get very useful with the planned obsolescence anova has announced

Mark, I think we may need to go ahead and use some of this information. Anova is now shutting down the remote connectivity with their app for the older version of the cooker. Cements the whole idea that you don't own the device eh?

I use to sit of the floor with this every morning in the 80s before I went to school, I lived in a house that had no heaters just a woodstove and in the morning the stove wasn't lit yet, I would get up and run to this heater and sit on the floor with it and warm up and it worked very well, I have been looking for one for years at thrift stores and today I found this the same one I had and it works perfect 👍

Loved the methodical explanation. Don’t know if this was the case at the time but the Bluetooth api has a command to set the ip and port the Anova should connect to

Great video...Have the same receiver but I am a complete newb when it comes to setting up what you did here. So I just opened mine, figured how to get that heat sink off, renewed the thermal grease and put it back together. My lack of knowledge was tapping that 12 volt power for the fans. So ended plugging a small noiseless stand alone fan to an outlet and pointing it to the receiver top grill to add a bit of flow.

You can also take a usb a to c cable and snip the data wires. It will assume a problem and be limited to 500ma

The big problem with these fans is that they're a fraction of the static pressure of the original Nidec models. Like less than 1/4 in fact. They may work in many situations where the hardware isn't stressed. If Supermicro could have used Noctua fans to the same cooling performance, they would have - they're (all) much cheaper than the Nidecs.

I have exactly the same model as Mark. 2 days ago something started smelling like electrical smoldering in my lab. I couldn’t find the source. Even when everything was off there wasn’t any prime suspect. Then yesterday when I was turning on my CyberPower UPS, I heard a kind of a boiling sound and the smell intensified. Disassembly confirmed browning of this yellow glue in exactly the same area. I don’t know yet if the damage is done or I only need yo get rid of the glue. It’s a shame CyberPower won’t recall these units.

Interesting Video, especially since I am looking for a hack to deal with electrical interruptions. Not sure how to keep the heating element on during a power outage but at the least it would be good to be able to backup the rest of the circuitry so that it would restart when power resumesand hold settings. Many people are looking for a solution for this.

If your vdevs are mirrored, you can spread the disks across the two HBAs to gain some redundancy that way also.

i wonder how difficult it would be to make a kind of drop-in replacement of SLA batteries, fitting into the same package? i'm sure a lot of people could find use for it especially for just running low power network equipment like modems and routers where maintenance-free protection against momentary power loss would be useful.

I am surprised, it appears this is very good info. My UPS has been not accepting grid power after the grid goes down, even for a few seconds. The UPS run until the batteries go dead and the UPS didn't charge. I put new batteries in the unit and still no charging. I opened the old Cyberpower 1500VA AVR and found the hard yellow glue in the charging part of the circuit board. I cleaned all the glue off the board and components. I then reassembled the unit and turned it on. The unit started charging the batteries. I unplugged several times and it now works as it should. It recovers and charges the batteries. I can think of at least two TV sets that I tossed that had a lot of the yellow glue in them. Darn!! BTW good video. Oh, the yellow glue was on a zener diode, the diode next to it, the 8 pin chip and then onto the two caps.

Interesting vid. Thank you. I use a multi-frequency metal detector and EMI sometimes interferes with the signal from the coil (round part at the bottom of the shaft). I’d like to find and understand the EMI source. Would the frequency tone get louder as I get closer to the source? How can I replicate the EMI that interferes with my detector? I know there are FCC regulations to help prevent EMI interference, but I think it would be okay if I’m doing it to my own equipment. In advance, thanks for your advice.

I have a bunch of these units and so far, no issues with any of them, the earliest being 2019. I haven't even replaced any of the batteries! Hope they don't go bang but I appreciate the video and will attempt to repair them if they do fail due to the glue. And I didn't even notice until you pointed it out with your LCD fix that one of them is super dim compared to the others haha.

I just came across this video and I have encountered a similar issue I think. My Lyr 3 makes and audio click and the audio stops playing for around 15-20 second, it clicks again and the audio is once again playing. I emailed Schiit about it and after not getting the greatest of help from them I finally got a response that it could be a transistor. Now sometime it clicks even if I am not playing any audio at all and I am just sitting at my desk viewing the web. Is this the same issue you're that this video could fix? It seems random, but I could trying listening to some music to see if I can find a track that will get it to click off to test.
