The Jungle Prada Site History Tour in St. Petersburg, Florida is an in-depth history tour featuring one of the best-preserved American Indian mounds in Florida. This cultural landmark is often recognized as the landing place of Panfilo de Narvaez and Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca in the year 1528. The survivors of the Narvaez Expedition walked from the Jungle Prada Site all the way to the Pacific Ocean over 8 years! Our history tour reveals information about the Tocobaga people, who dominated Tampa Bay at the time the Spanish arrived, and explores some of the native plants they would have used in their everyday lives. Tickets are available on our website. There are more than 50 semi-wild peafowl that call the Jungle Prada Site home.

Unfortunately much of ancient Florida history has been paved over or lost forever.

Never understood with as well as the Caribbean islands had been mapped out and traveled, especially Cuba, by that time, that they would not have headed down to the Keys and then tried to raft out that way. Or even from Miami area as Bimini is a mere 57 miles then just a short distance to the main Bahamian islands that already had some colonies.

Please remember Egmont Key is a national wildlife refuge set aside for beach nesting birds that nest in colonies each summer. The northern portion of the island is open to the public, the southern portion (including the beaches) are closed year round. Pets are not allowed on the island. Thank you for the nice video.

After focusing on the proper pronunciation of Narvaez you proceed to torture the pronunciation of his home town Valladolid (Vaya-do-lid). Otherwise muy interssante. I wondered about the Prada landing site in St Petersburg. Now I know….

The accent over the first syllable means to stress the first syllable -- Pan. You stressed the second syllable -- fi. Your pronunciation is inaccurate.

Wrong. NASA stopped counting at 25,000 islands in the 70’s
@discoverfloridatours
@discoverfloridatours 8 месяцев назад
The actual number of islands varies depending on the source, but it's generally estimated to be in the hundreds. The exact count can be challenging to determine due to the dynamic nature of the islands. I couldn't find any NASA data online about how many islands they estimate. Could you provide a source or a link?

Egmont was my first duty station out of basic training. There were four of us in two two man duty sections working one week one and one week off. Transport was provided by CG helicopter. June 74-February 75. Good times. Now I volunteer through Egmont Key Alliance.

I grew up near here in the ‘50s and ‘60s and visited the island a few times. I remember the harbor pilots gave us lunch one time! I also remember their big radio.

It's certainly very odd. This does look like something we'd see out of ancient egypt, baring striking resemblences to Sekmet's depictions. This isn't the only cat-man statue we've found outside of Egypt either, nor is it the oldest. We found one in Germany known as the lion-man that dates back more than 30,000 years. Really makes one wonder about the Lyrans.

These videos are great. You do such a wonderful job of making them clear, interesting and professional. This one should be part of each of the museum exhibits down in Marco Island. I worried hurricane Ian may have hurt the museum and the cat, but was relieved to find that the museum had no building damage.
