I think more what people are getting at is that for black people who can sing they are generally not just good at singing they are exceptional! Take Aretha, or Boyz 2 men, lauryn hill, Beyonce, the list goes on... I think there's more to it, fact is in most aspects, black people jusr have fantastic genetics...
She had vocal ability and obvious control over her voice. She just choice not to be SANGER. But Aaliyah can definitely SANG. she has songs that’s proven that.
I agree with your analysis, though I don’t think her voice is small. Also, I don’t think that every performance in every song must be about big notes. Her voice is powerful enough. I believe her voice has grown bigger in 2022 than it was in 2005-2008.
Lisa Fishcer reminds me of Minnie Riperton. I think both use more often high head voice than true whistles. That G6 in _How Can I Ease the Pain_ sounds head voice to me with the fullness & connection to the lower part of the voice. In her live show in Japan, she ran a decremental scale down from G6 which hardly had any airy phonation.
Hi Dileesa. I only just recently discovered your channel, and I've been watching the singing tips. I know the videos are a few years old 😂 but I'm really liking this. I find it so helpful. Personally I've struggled with hoarseness due to two reasons, I've got chronic allergic bronchitis, but also lpr (reflux). It is much better than it was. I stopped taking steroid inhalers, those were the worst for my vocal chords. And diet has helped the lpr significantly, although this is something that I will always have my ups and downs. But I noticed indeed that particular songs are more tiring for the voice, and then at a certain point I'm starting to get hoarse. So then when that happens my voice instructor tells me to just stop. And even though our session isn't over yet. But she's like, no, you've had enough. Certain days if I was particularly hoarse, what we've done is that we've continued the lesson with an instrument. I found this really cool because in this way I've also been learning how to play the guitar a bit.
@@Dileesathank you! I’m Off to watch Shalamar in Manchester in June… Gwen Dickey as support… I can picture you singing Rose Royce songs! Love to hear your rendition of “carwash” and “Is it love you’re after”…
I think you were showing restraint in your critique as to not infuriate her fans who subscribe to your channel (?) and held back on what you really think of Sade's singing, and if I'm right, I agree with what you didn't say. Never understood the fanfare surrounding her; she has no vocal range, and personally, vocal range (they don't have to be as expansive as Minnie Riperton or Mariah Carey) is a significant part of what appeals to me in a singer.
@bonnibling it's her Tone when you have a pretty Voice you have half the battle won already. She does not do alot vocally which is unfortunate because she can do alot more with her voice more then she probably realizes. However if ain't broke why fix it. She has made great money off her voice/sound but still maintain her own privacy/personal life. Which is Beautiful.
@@joelprince4170 That's an unfounded assumption to say she has more capability than she realizes, and if assuming you were right, I don't know one successful performer who would deliberately choose to suppress any aspect of their talent, and why the heck would they?!? She could still live her live as she chooses, even if she had more fame and fortune as a result of enhanced skills, which I don't believe she has. At any rate, it doesn't; change the end result..and that is that she doesn't sing with any range, which is something that doesn't appeal to me personally in a singer.
I’ve been looking for a way to stop doing it , and I found your video first, and it’s exactly what I needed to hear. I recorded myself and I hated all that vibrato. I think I hid behind it.

I often thought the best singers came from upbringings in churches, regardless of where their ancestors come from, because church is one place where youngsters are encouraged just to make a joyful noise and not worry about what people think about how it sounds. That gives someone much more freedom and less fear of being ashamed of what they sound like. Given that, there's room to develop and less likelihood of stiffening up in front of an audience. It just so happens that black churches seem to be very animated, happy places filled with an emphasis on expression, whereas my own upbringing was in a quite a stiff, British church that my parents took me to and I didn't particularly enjoy -- so didn't really join in, and I still struggle to be free in my singing even 35 years later.
She has a soft edged voice, glossy on the edges. Almost 'whispering' aloud at times. And then she sometimes, one never knows when, can "sharpen" it when she will accentuate enunciate certain words (hone in on the vowel-consonant "choice" that she deploys).
