You seem to embrace techs just as me to monitor garden. Well, I face the same issue as you do protecting my mulberries, figs, persimmons and grapes (small size trees/vines), etc. in my small backyard. I've been researching how to tackle this issue. Have you tried electric fencing? I think it will help a lot to tackle squirrels, rats, Possums, etc. in my specific case. You might want to look into it (checkout YT videos on it). Great video!
We have a nest which we love watching BUT we also have three outdoor cats. Any suggestions on what to do once these sweet babies try to learn to fly. Are their skills pretty good from the jump or is there a big learning curve? Has anyone else encountered this?
Please make sure those cats won't have a chance to check out the nest. The doves came back a year after I posted this video and again laid a few eggs in the same nest, but unfortunately all the eggs got eaten by wild cats. Guess how I learnt that? My camera captured the crime scene....
fyi. Simpson ledger lock bolts. set flush to the ledger allowing you to set joist hangars over them. Also they will screw right through the wood and the stucco pulling the ledger tight to the stucco when you find the wall studs behind it. I am a builder and have been building decks and patio covers for more than 30 years. The hardware has just gotten better over time.
We've got a baby morning dove that a cat got to. It is fledgling stage but needs to recover for 2-3 weeks. We will give it to a professional as it probably needs antibiotics.
I have one right now that made a nest in my 3 tier hanging basket. The mom and dad takes turn babysitting. Even when it rains the dad huddles on the cement .

Nice idea but I think your proportions could be improved. The longest extension should be at least 1/3 the width and not as deep. There are many existing decorative rafter tail designs available.
Im so worried about the ones on my fire escape bc theres no bushes or trees around!! I live in the back on a building where the garage is so theres just cars down there. How are they gonna learn to fly??
