A lot of people don't realize that Jahangir Khan defeated the 5 time World Champion Geoff Hunt at the World Open final to become the youngest world squash champion at the age of 17 years and 11 months. A lot of squash pundits thought it was almost impossible to beat Geoff Hunt on the biggest stage of squash.
I believe Geoff Hunt acquired 4 World Open titles and was definitively at the end of his career when Jahangir came through, it would've been interesting plus intriguing to have seen them take each other on, had they been of a similar age, but alas! such is the brutal nature of sports 😊
@@saleemkirmani5583 ahan, officially he's got 4 to his name though - which makes sense considering a separate World Open was introduced, which led to a different set of records that needed to be kept
I was chatting to Ross Thorne last night (he plays socially at our club) - I asked him: "Jahangir or Jansher?" Without hesitation, he replied "Jahangir - he was much more aggressive, whereas Jansher was more reactive" The debate continues! 😉
Zeeshan Sahib , I really appreciate this magnificent tribute to Jahangir and Jansher Khan. I hope you can request Pakistan Television to upload some clips of the famous 1990 British Open men's squash final between Jahangir Khan and Rodney Martin. It was unbelievable to see him break Geoff Hunt 's BO record by winning the final 3-0 in front of his legendary father Roshan Khan.
I feel Jansher Khan was at his very best vs Rodney Eyles in the 1996 British Open final. He thrashed the talented hard hitting Australian 3-0. It was a mind boggling and thrilling experience. I was very happy because, I'm a Pakistani.
Jansher was at his best far before that - you'll gain that perspective once you're exposed to more of his matches from earlier on in his career - especially 92-97 era, where he basically pioneered the modern version of Squash we see being played today
2200 kms down in these and they still are going strong - so I can wholeheartedly second that - too bad Cam ain't working with UA to make these anymore, but I still got another new pair stashed up in the running closet 😊
Great players inside the court! But quite opposite outside the Squash court! Both in fact, are the real architecture to destroy the Squash talent and system of Pakistan!! To add salt to the injuries , twice Jansher was forced by authorities to lose to Jahangir in British Open so that Jahangir could even the Geoff hunt record and then subsequently established a world record!! Cheers
It is so sad that we had some of the most awesome squash players in the world in the past but now we stand nowhere in the game. Once I had some small talk with jansher and he lamented the fact that the younger generation was not interested to put in the kind of hard work that is needed to reach the upper echelons of any game.
Agreed, I had the same talk with him & he elaborated his point with practical measureable examples Other than that, it's an individual sport, so no matter the level of support - greater or practically non-existent, beyond that barrier to entry, it's all about the individual's desire & ambition to make it all work 👍🏼
CORRIGENDUM PLEASE: THE LONGEST RECORDED RALLY WAS BETWEEN JAHANGIR KHAN OF PAKISTAN AND GAMAL AWAD OF EGYPT. LASTED MORE THAN 7 MINUTES AND ENDED IN A LET. THAT MATCH LASTED 2HRS46 MINUTES. THE FIRST GAME OF THE MATCH LASTED MORE THAN 1HR
It goes Jahangir, Hunt, Hashim, and Jonah/Jansher in that order if you go by British Opens won with Jahangir on top with the most BOs(10) and combined World Opens with 16 overall, then Jansher on 14 and Hunt on 12.
I hv great privilege seeing both played live few times as well as seen good recordings of some of these games many years back . After 35 years of constant comparing, I honestly still can't decide who is greater. There r 2 GOATs
@@alishahid9253 I'll notify you when they are exiting this place - I'm sure they've enjoyed their stay here long enough & will look forward to being at your constant beckon call - treat 'em well 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@bilaltareenkhan1 don't have the native files anymore - my computer was stolen a week after I put this up in 2009 that being said, if I ever got the chance to meet up with these greats again, I would be able to produce a completely cinematic version of this as, this kind'a work actually led me to become a professional photographer/cinematographer 😊
For the last few months after I had started watching him closely, I have to admit, he was overall a better package than Jahangir.....he was exceptional, treating players like minnows, they are running around him like fools😂😂 what a legend, I am short of words for him.
Malcolm Willstrop was one of the greatest squash coaches of all time. His son James reached the top because of his father. It's sad that Malcolm Willstrop has passed away.
the pro at our club played against both Jansher and Jahangir on the PSA. I asked him who was better. He paused and said "they were both great. Jansher would let you play great against him, you just wouldn't win any points or games. Jahangir would blast you off the court." He couldn't say who was better though.
this idiot is an obvious racist! even tough he himself 'admits' that jansher was one of the greatest ever, he discusses the match where peter 'almost' beats jansher! not the 100s of tournaments jansher wheezed through, and won ,no! that one insignificant match, where he was 'almost' beaten... what an idiot
I am so overwhelmed after seeing this Mr Jamal. I am already a big fan of yours and now I appreciate you more as a good human. Loads of love and happiness to you.
Oh my God, I experienced the same thing this year. And I loved the way how we are welcomed and are able to be part of these important celebrations. It's so warm and amazing. :) - loved the way you shared your experience.
ZOHA Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 it was simply incredible & I walked away so positively blessed from this experience ❤️❤️❤️ glad you enjoyed it & got to live such a wonderful time yourself as well 🤗
