Hola matt ,Como paso de mi mixer de reason 4 de 14 canales al mix ssl de reason 11.desde ya muchas gracias Muy bien explicado todo lo que enseñas ,es genial.saludos desde Argentina
Everytime I watch this video I uncover more gold. I feel like I'm in a classroom at Reason University and the professor is just as excited as I am to dive into all the Reason tools and techniques available with this DAW. I must confess, even after being a long time Reason from day 1 I am still just scratching the surface to discover just how truly phenomenal the Reason DAW is and has been since the start.
Thank you for all your tips. I have a question and I would like your advice, I have a drum track which has repercussions on the peaks of my final song (I'm talking about the kick and snare) and it considerably reduces the volume of my final piece exported (at least that's what I see if I'm not mistaken). when I compress, I lose the punch of my drums and that has an impact on my entire song. I know you have probably dealt with this type of situation. what do you recommend ?
@@LearnReason im not able to see what the mix channel do on 2.19 min when the fader is on 0db??? i have this problem a lot to figur it out that when the spectrum lvl is on 0 db that the sound is in good quality because normal its need for my ears over 20db same how in your video. and when i use this 0 db than the mix channel is under 20 db. this is what i not understand.
@@LearnReason i have asked Propellerhead Support and he said, that the Lvl of the Spectrum Eq is a diffrend Parameter, so its not affecting the Mixchannel. I was irritated because the db lvl in Spectrum Eq. I will watch your video thanks for the link.
The only concern I have for this advice is that these track examples are extremely flat and even in volume throughout the performance. My songs' parts aren't like that, they switch from loud chords on the acoustic to quieter picked parts. The drums have radically different volumes depending on whether it's a quiet section or not, just basic dynamic changes throughout. How can I set just one gain setting for a track that have 30 whatever the fader numbers are called difference in volume back and forth, constantly from one section to the next of a song? I don't write hip hop, my parts aren't all just one repetitive thing over and over again, played by a machine.
Just as an experiment, I tried this on the track I'm mixing right now. Just the bass drum, by itself, when I set the gain high enough to put the peak on the individual track meter to ten, I get non-stop constant red peaks on the mains. And the track itself, the recording that shows the peaks and troughs of the actual sound, doesn't have the peaks anywhere near the bottom or top edges of the bar. What am I missing?
One last grouchy comment. I went ahead and did about half the tracks using this advice, (the song has about 30 tracks, so 15ish), and it is just distorted noise. I think I need to see someone else talk about these gain knobs at the top. My understanding of gain is from guitar amps, the more gain, the hotter the input signal, which means more distortion. When I lower my distortion guitar tracks enough using that gain knob to keep the fader volume meter showing the -10 number suggested, it conforms to that understanding, and sounds like a plunky clean guitar, (I'm using a plugin for my guitar effects, including distortion). I really wonder how my setup could lead to such catastrophically terrible results using this video's advice. I've been recording music on my own for decades using DAWs and have always liked my results, and until this video, I've never once touched the gain knobs at the top, 'cause I didn't want to affect how hot I had the signal recorded. The faders, used as you mock so thoroughly in the beginning of the video, work great for me, when combined with lowering or raising the peak by changing the individual recording 'height' I don't know what to actually call it, in the F7 section of Reason. But, I do suffer from peaking, and constantly have to raise and lower the F7 sections individual track heights with the cutting tool until I get the right combination of signals that won't peak on that beat. So, maybe once I'm done mixing this set of 25 songs I'm putting out next on RU-vid, I'll try from the beginning to follow this approach, but it's going to feel like starting all over 25 years ago!
This video is to show how the mixer works in Reason when you want to gain stage, its more about how the mixer works, To see how to mix in Reason and see how to setup your gain structure I show all this in my Mixing tutorials. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kMYbTcUILvM.html
I just bought Komplete 14. But after my install, there's no sound wether i use my midi keyboard or the virtual one. I also don't see it available in Reason despite seeing it in my program install panel. Can you help???
Everything sounds fantastic but no VST3. I have had to use blue cat VST. The money I spent for the blue cat VST I could have used for the upgrade. Oh well. Love your Reason!
@@LearnReason at load-reload garage albums Hetfield used wizard not mesa in studio. Different characterist to sound. Scooped midrange is not true, Hetfield used high midrange.
I watched the whole series. Incredible work and I learned a lot but in the end the mix is perfect besides that piano and vocal delays being way too loud.
Thank you. First time I have every heard this from anyone, I think though you might be missing the way the musicians wanted it to sound. Food for thought brother, when mixing other peoples music they in the end call the shots.
Definitely the best(and easiest)video on gain staging. I do have a question though. Do you ever adjust volume controls on the instruments or insert effects or just the gain knob on the mixer?
Write you music and when you are done you do a Gain Stage to start mixing. I show all this in depth in my mixing series. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kMYbTcUILvM.html
That sound has a click in it on every note. Question, when is reason studios going to update their sound engine? It sounds toyish.and extremely bright. Contrast it to fl studios dark sound. In trap music and today's hip hop the darker sound quality is preferable. The same chords on the same sound but in both daws sound very different in tone. I would like them to make a daw called Reason Dark or Reason Black. The same way Gucci Guilty make their dark version of their cologne. And they could make it where it's automatic to get a good natural sound as soon as you open the software without having to add modules. Just suggestions. Thank you. Have a nice day. I appreciate the video.
Maybe start at the beginning of the mix series and you will know why you hear the click. You are just hearing a small part in this mix and this tutorial. Not sure what you mean by toyish. Reason is just a DAW if you do not like it do not use it.
Hi thanks for sharing this , so as I understood correctly you just need some effect with like extra mid high, I saw something like this at softube and waves plugins and it can help to resolve the busy mid problem?
You can use the EQ on the mixer to adjust the frequency I also wanted to add in a little distortion on these and that effect does it easily, I have used it for many years, it came with Pro Tools, and the company that made it sells all those plugins in a bundle and that's great because I used to them and know how to use them. I could have used the EQ and the D-11 also, I just would have had to make a combinator. www.airmusictech.com/effects/creative-effects-collection-plus.html
Hey Matt, Just wanted to say I'm a Big fan of your work! You're One of the best Engineers i've ever seen! Keep up the great work! I'm loving the sounds!!
You might want to be careful with the waveshaper: it lost the low end and gained a lot of harmonics that are out of tune. That is because of the shape being used not being monotonjc -it has several peaks and troughs. When a sine goes through that shaper, what comes out is pretty unusable.
As I said in the tutorial I like it and when I start mixing if I have to I can come back and adjust anythings I need to. So far I like it but as always how is it going to sound with everything. I hear you though.
