I'm using Reason v 10.4 , i have never seen absolute/relative in the quantize drop down, not even in tools, are you using version 11, thanks for any help
With all that manual work and quantizing the hell out of all tracks...wouldn't just sequencing the drum tracks with multi-layered NNXT samples make more sense? The whole goal of recording drums is to capture the native performance of the instrumentalist. The recording engineer messed up imho if the amount of bleed is so bad that it leads to muddy tracks? I cannot recall ever doing any cutting work like this on an analog desk and recorder or finding that it needed this much work in the first place. We'd just go in for another take and get it done right.
I've been drumming for of 30 years and mic bleed is just part of recording drums. It all depends how you want the tracks to sound and of course how the recording engineer does their job, maybe the band wanted a more live feel recording and thats way there is so much bleed. The point here is this tutorial is how to fix bleed not how it could have be recorded. At the Pro Mixing Forum I am teaching people how to mix and master music wether it is theirs or for others and when you are just getting stems to mix it's up to you to be able to take what you have and make it sound the best it can. I also want the sound of these drums and no samples so it takes a little work but in the end it sounds awesome and the drummer is happy. Quantizing Just makes it easier to do this and because the band was very tight the amount of quantizing is minimal, the song still has a live feel.
