I loved the video and the learning about dog behaviour. Very helpfull.Your video's gives a big smile on my face when I see the dog's having so much joy walking with you as a gang. Thanks for letting me part of your journey.
@@ynfi welcome along to my little channel. It’s a nice little community and the “thank you” comes from me for watching. Appreciate the support. Do you have a dog/dogs yourself? Did anything in today’s video stand out? Always looking for ideas on content to make next. Steven 💙🧡❤️
Hello Steven thanks for your reaction. We had a Westy for 15 years. Died pity 4 months ago. Was very easy going dog and kind. Before that a Welsh terrier. Bit spicy female in comparison to the Westy :-) Next week we are proud owners of a border terrier pup. I found the aggression part very interesting and learningfull. I watch particular Juno,Alfy and Biscuit and there behaviour, but Charly also. (so recognizable run.) In future we might want two dogs. How does it work in distractions. Is there one particular dog you call to your attention which you know is sensitive for distractions ? Rabbits ,deer? I saw you keep the attention of the dogs in an other video while slowly moving backwards from encountering some deer in the woods. Is there also a rank in the gang and do you pick him by name so the others will follow besides the whistle? Would love to know more about a gang in future video s and what you can see, or what you can tell on their language during journeys or distractions. Or maybe for particularly typical border behavior if there is such a thing. Sorry for my bad Englisch. Live in the Netherlands :-) Greetings Fifiane
@ynfi hey Fifiane, How wonderful that a puppy is coming into your lives - and a Border Terrier too. They would be in good company with my gang! Sounds like you’ve had nice dogs in your life. You’ve asked some amazing questions here and over the course of my next few videos, I might try to answer some of these in more detail - I hope you’re ok with me using your question as a topic. Sometimes it doesn’t work (if we talk about distractions and then get no distractions on our walk it sometimes doesn’t work out). But will keep an eye on their behaviour and see if one of your points matches with them - and they play nice for the camera! I’ll add, distractions are part of the 3 D’s we often talk about on our videos - the 3 D’s are: Distance Duration Distraction So when we train (literally any training exercise), if we want to improve the dog to thrive in different scenarios, we’ll introduce one of the 3 Ds. Perhaps we try to get a dog for a longer DURATION. Maybe we walk away a further DISTANCE while the dog is sitting. Or possibly we ask the dog to sit while all the other dogs are allowed to be free - hence a more difficult DISTRACTION. Whenever we have a “quiet” day we will work on these 3D’s - usually off camera. And when it counts, when it really counts, like with the deer, hopefully, training kicks in and we get a big tick ✅ in the box that day. But we also get it wrong a lot and maybe I’ll show some of the times it goes wrong too. Keep looking through the videos. I’ve got one called “Border Terrier Troubles” which actually has a Part 1 and Part 2 to it. Might give you a peek at things when they don’t go to plan. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IRkD8a4boB4.htmlsi=ExRiceIb9jnKRqWu Speak soon, Steven 💙🧡❤️ PS - your English is far superior to my Dutch! 🧡
Hey Nik 🥰. Thanks for stopping by my little channel. Hope the “truffling” in the long grass works out for you. Let me know if it’s successful. Steven 💙🧡❤️
Oh yeah. I forgot that I mentioned it was going to rain - then didn’t. Should be grateful for those small mercies!!! I love Lottie so much. She’s basically the reason I got Dante. 💙🧡❤️
@@melanieossman2334 hahahaha. I take your point…. I actually refer to this in today’s video. It’s uploading now… shouldn’t be long before it’s in your inbox 🔔💙🧡❤️
We have the same here on our trails, suddenly full of cyclists and families to avoid. Also the field we use regularly now has cows in and despite the public right of way across the field its too scary with dogs. Your weather looks about as good as ours in the south. Good luck with your summer walking!
Thank you. More videos to come and at least for you guys you’ve a couple more weeks before the kids break up. We’re 2 down… multiple to go 🤣. The video of my own dog, Dante, will be landing soon (tonight/tomorrow). Stay tuned 💙🧡❤️
I play this video for my pup, she is a two months old border terrier and she is absolutely full of beans but this video calms her down. I wish it was 10 hours long 😂
Oh wow. Maybe I should do a 10 hour video. That’s amazing. Thank you for watching (regularly by the sounds of it) and supporting the page. If you’re on instagram pop onto my page and feel free to send me pics of your pup. Would love to see. Thanks. Steven 💙🧡❤️
@@crightonpetservices We are marching on. Bert gets a daily walk at any number of local parks. Summer time means hikes that allow frequent dips in the stream. Bert just "bagged" his first ground hog yesterday. He is an official killer, and without any training to do so. I know the breed is hard wired to do hunt but it was hard to watch. The ground hog was immature, not a baby but not an adult. Bert did not even get a bite or puncture but I worry it has changed him as a dog.
@mydogkel oh dear. That’s quite a turn of events. Yeah I’ve seen enough “ratting” to know how vicious and effective killers they can be. It’s not for the faint of heart. Keep me posted on this. Hope you’re ok otherwise xx
@@crightonpetservices Thanks for the understanding. My neighbors having been trying to comfort me, but I know in my heart what a border terrier is and I love my little scoundrel. Freud argued that we all have these two sides. Best to make peace with that knowledge and strive to do our best. Thanks again for the kind words.
@mydogkel does a saying go… “it is better to violent, if there is violence in ones heart” or something along those lines. Doesn’t make it any easier. But nature can be cruel (sometimes). I’ve been thinking about this all afternoon. Thoughts with you guys 💙🧡❤️ Send me a pic of the little rascal onto my Facebook.
I'd be super excited to run into you guys! I wish there is someone like you nearby to take my border for this kind of pack walks, he'd absolutely love this.
Awww this is AMAZING!! It’s not even loaded in HD yet and the views and comment are literally happening. So happy to be back!!!! HD version (good for playing through your TV will be up in around 30 mins). Thanks so much for watching. How are you? 💙🧡❤️
We are based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Please come and join us again. We have so many different but equally wonderful places we take the dogs. Thanks for watching and dropping into the comments. Steven 💙🧡❤️
@@crightonpetservices yes great age,I’m no expert but like my Doberman who lived until 13 (as you know old for a big dog) I put it down to regular exercise and a good diet they were both fed dried food mixed with red meat, a friend owns a butchers and would give me bags of cut offs.
you did brilliantly!: my bt, Mac, is not great around other dogs and I keep him on a short lead which I suspect is making him worse - he will be off lead for training which starts mid May which will hopefully help:)
Thank you Angus. Hopefully the training will be a success and give you guys a bit more freedom to do all the things you want to do. Thanks for the nice comment. 😊💙🧡❤️
It’s a sad day. Today is her last walk (officially). We’re going to the beach with the 8 of them - Barney, Charlie, Elsa, Nell, Otis, Rua, Ruby & Tosca. Watch out for that video landing soon 🥹. I hope I don’t cry 💙🧡❤️
Haha. That’s fascinating. We did East Ord as it’s a few mins from where our holiday home is. But after I’d stopped filming a woman came up to us and told us all about Eyemouth. They’ve got a little community that do it regularly - especially on full moons and things like that. Can’t fully remember everything but seems we missed a trick by not doing Eyemouth. Nevermind. Next time 🏴🏴
The worst part was that it was so gradual - you had to walk a fair way out before getting any depth. Would have rather just dive right in. Good fun though. 💙🧡❤️
STEVEN!!!! Hurray. You are back. I missed your post last week but I just found it. Bert and I watched this video; he is partial to the little dogs. We take your advice. Our walks have exercise, we explore lots of smells and practice recalls, and are still working on dealing with squirrels and other dogs. I will post a video on your Facebook page so you can see Bert. Take good care of being a daddy and husband and post whenever you can. I continue to argue that you have the COOLEST (and sometimes hardest) job in the world.
Sherry m’dear. How are you? That video of Bert is just amazing. He’s a little smasher isn’t he?! That’s a Scottish term for good looking 😉. Windy this week. But back at the grind and loving it. Lovely to hear from you. Please don’t ever think you need an excuse to send me videos of Bert… ever 💙🧡❤️
Nik - thank you so much for watching. I honestly really appreciate it. We have lots of fun each time. The pups just love it. Hope it’s lived up to my hype 😬. Speak soon, Steven 💙🧡❤️
