Hello my name is Justin and I run a full-time laser business out of my garage. Here we will be breaking down different ways you can start and operate your own laser business whether you are interested in a side hustle or full-time income. I have been full-time since the summer of 2015 and have many insights I would like to share.
This looks awesome. Going to test this on wood, and if I succeed with this, I am going to think if I want to invest in another laserhead for my S1 to be able to work on brass etc. Really loving this. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Justin, awesome video! Is there another laser machine that you would recommend that can provide the wattage needed to do this type of engraving? Thank you for your knowledge and wisdom!
Would a 4" exhaust be suficient for the fiber laser or do do you need a 6"? Could you do a followup vid about your fiber laser? Im looking into purchasing one, but concerned about the low speed compared to competitor's speeds.
4" is probably OK maybe add a 6" adapter on the end to cover more space next to your project. I dont like to mess with metal dust I want it out of my area fast as possible.
I make a lot of custom board game holders/organizers for my own use and my family has been on me to try selling them. The whole space is very confusing. On the one hand you have sellers like this example on Etsy being very obtuse about what they're selling (and how does anyone even find their products?) yet others on their own storefronts being very clear and mentioning the name of the games they sell accessories for. Seem like designing and selling accessories for an existing product to fill a niche not exploited by the original product should be legal but I'm not a lawyer.
So far not at all. I keep in contact with the brand rep and also in a Facebook group with others that have the same machines. Great price for how quality the machine is.
I think I changed the color a bit with the increased frequency at the end. Bought the coins from a very reputable dealer Im sure they are good to go. I did have a brass plated steel coin not too long ago and got "stuck" at the bottom of the magnetic tumbler haha.
I have a question: I was thinking about buying an xtool f1 ultra and I know it’s valuable because of its features. However, I saw machines (like from omtech) which is the same price but with a high wattage laser. (50W is like the price of the xtool f1).. which one is more worth buying?
Having used various lasers (Trotec, Universal, Epilog) for over a decade, I've also owned an Omtech (AF2820-60w) for about a year now and use it for our business. The machine itself is okay for your typical cheap Chinese model, but the customer service is horrible. If you are just using it for hobby stuff, then I would say an Omtech is fine. I would steer clear if you are trying to use it to start a business. Look at Thunder Laser; they are also Chinese-made, but customer support is better, and you can actually understand who you are speaking to. Their customer support is based in Texas. I looked at switching to Thunder because of this but haven't because our business requires heavyweight to be engraved 0-130 pounds in the machine, so I may be forced to upgrade to AP Laser and their open platforms. Hope this helps.
If you are just looking for a fiber laser to do metal things like I did in this video I would suggest going with as high wattage fiber laser as you can afford. The F1 Ultra is good for a versatility of materials but isnt the best choice if you want to specialize in metal exclusively.
I'm also interested in the F1 Ultra but I have the same question. These MOPA Fiber Lasers are great for colors. I wonder how the F1 ultra compare to them in frequence and q pulse. I don't understand these settings full but will it ever be possible to engrave the same colors with the F1 Ultra? Because it's no MOPA Laser. Maybe with some software updates or is it even impossible? Thanks for answers.
Honestly Im not sure. I guess you could run the speed a bit fast. I keep having issues running too much power and burning the metal so would need to deal with that.
I’ll try your settings and just let it run. “With great power comes great responsibility.” I think I could’ve just went with a 60, but got a 100w mopa for the same price.
Nice work, pretty sure we have crossed in the FB groups, the magnetic tumbler looks familiar lol I'm trying to do similar videos but have no video and editing skills but i'll get there hopefully
Oh awesome! Yeah all the fiber groups blend together on the FB feed haha. You got it just film with your phone and clip things together its all people need.
That’s amazing! My Fiber doesn’t have q-pulse and my frequency only ranges from 40-60.. Would this still be possible? Looking at your settings for that cleanup pass.
This one is 60w so quite a bit more power. Im going to do something similar on the Ultra coming up in the next video or 2. I try to space them out so its not just an xTool all the time video channel.
Very cool. I know ex-airforce guys love their coin collections and will have small custom batches made for whatever club or event they may want them for. I could see that being a little niche to cover. Those are often painted as well. Great results on the coin you did!
Its a good idea. I tried finding a good hobo coin graphic but didnt like anything so far. They look awesome done handmade it would be cool to replicate.
@@justinlaser ah, I should have clarified my question better. I was wondering whether this could be possible with wood as a material while using a diode laser.
Great tutorial, the polishing and black brass process is cool, totally going to shout this process out in a future video. Also how did you find out about that tumbler, didn’t know something that wasn’t for rocks existed!
The tumbler is great. I’ve used one for years. But store the pins and plastic bin off the tumbler. Over time they will magnetize and stop working as well.
Wow!!! Finally...I have found a reviewer who shares some not-so-good with the good. Thank you Justin. This is very helpful. Hopefully, xTool will work out the kinks you pointed out. My bet says they will. I'm looking forward to the #2.
