In this video we take a look at the xTool Infrared (IR) Module. Specifically the IR Module that fits in the xTool D1 Pro diode laser. Does this thing actually work on metals? Is it worth buying?

Interesting review. You can do so many metal projects at a reasonable price to convert the head on that diode. You should certainly get a quick return on your investment.

Quick ROI is the name of the game... or at least the name of my game haha.

This is the video I have been looking for. I need a laser machine for exactly the purpose of what you did with the silver jewelry. I’m not techie savvy, but can you please tell me what laser machine should I buy with this? The Xtool is above my range and this one is what I need. I appreciate you sharing these videos which are really helpful. Do I need an air filter for this? I live in an apartment so I’m just wondering if working with a laser machine can trigger the fire detector since it’s sensitive to scents. Thanks again and i really appreciate your content. God bless .

If you really wanted to do personalized jewelry the xTool F1 ( geni.us/xtool-f1-engraver ) is probably the best starting place. It is the same laser as what I used in this video but its smaller and MUCH faster. You probably arent going to trigger smoke alarms running jewelry but you also dont want to be breathing in those particles. They make an air purifier that attaches to the F1. If you cant exhaust outside due to being in an apartment I would highly suggest it.

Can I use it inside the house? for only engraving... or Isn't recommend it? Is it too much difference between the 10w and the 20w? Thanks

Can you use the power supply that comes with the IR head to power the normal laser that comes with the unit to? i have the 10w d1 pro but my house flooded and submurged the power supply, x tool want £100 for a power supply minus shipping, im interested in this unit anyway, so could maybe just use the power supply that comes with this IR module for both laser heads? 🤞

You said if you own a D1 Pro you could buy this module for a "couple hundred bucks". It is $599 on the xtool's website. Was it cheaper back when you did the review? Great video though. Thanks!

xTool has several different versions of their website based on location. I believe all of Europe (minus the UK) orders from the EU site link: geni.us/xtool-d1-pro-eu . That is their official ordering page.

"A couple hundred bucks." I think inflation has changed that. I just pried it at around $550.

good review, however it is definitely not 200 dollars. The IR module is 600 bucks.

I'm in the market for a laser. Would you get a CO2 laser or the IR & a diode laser to start out?
@justinlaser
@justinlaser 10 месяцев назад
If you have the space and money I would go straight for the co2 laser. Diodes are great for starting out but not a necessary first step if you want to dive-in. If you want to do just metal engraving, you would want to look at a fiber laser.

If you buy a diode you want a IR, then once you get the IR you'll want the C02, get the C02 is you have the space and money 100%

I’m a confused newbie. Could you possibly do a comparison between diode, co2, ultraviolet and fibre laser. You don’t need to demonstrate any particular laser or brand. Just a comparison between what materials each type can do, like a chart with various wattages and materials. I bought an Ortur 10 watt diode and then there was 20 watt available. It can do things the 10 watt can’t do but perhaps a 10 watt of a different type of laser would do those things better than an upgraded diode. I then bought a Laserpecker 20 watt (before Ortur 20 watt was available). I was then surprised (confused newbie) when I received it that it is actually a fibre laser. I am floundering on RU-vid where every brand is the best and I want one of each. A more comprehensive comparison would then be speed. Would one brand 20 watt be faster than another brand 20 watt. At $1,500 each (Converted to Canadian dollars) I can’t afford to buy a third laser without knowing a lot more information going in. Or maybe one of your viewers knows of something like this that already exists. Thanks, Sherry

Yes it can be very confusing its unfortunate. I have another video called "Choosing a laser in 2023" where I cover some of that comparison. Especially the pros and cons. The laser type that can do the widest variety of materials is the co2 laser. Wood, acrylic, leather, etc. Its the closest to a "default" laser you will get. A diode laser can do most of the things a co2 laser can do except clear (and light colored) acrylic. Diode lasers (like your Ortur) are also lower power and hence more affordable than a co2 laser. Fiber laser is mainly just for metal although it can manage some other materials as well.

Hello. Have you ever marked blackened stainless steel?

I have not. I just looked it up it looks cool Ive never heard of it. If thats a top level coating you should be able to laser off no problem.
