He didn't have to cut the chicane. That's why he got the penalty. If he was side by side and forced out that's no penalty. He cut the chicane to slipstream into the next corner. Penalty thoroughly deserved.
It's obvious you weren't watching f1 around this time. He cut the chicane because he was pushed by Kimi. He followed the rules made the pass and won the race. Fia made up a new rule and penalized him 25 sec to give the race to massa who was 20 sec behind. Everyone at the time said it was unfair and later fia admitted that it was unfair. Learn

It wasn't about the place, had Hamilton not cut the chicane he would have been nowhere near to overtake Raikkonen on the main straight, which is where he overtook. He gained massively by cutting the chicane and can only blame himself for the time penalty he received. If Hamilton were smart, he would have waited and overtaken Raikkonen later. Hamilton lost the race all by himself.
And pathetic that the result was changed to such a classic finish. At the end of the day kimi crashed out so there was no advantage. Very poor decision, similar to a certain 2021 race.

I remember this race like it was yesterday and the injustice done there, Kimi was done and hamilton gave the place back then he crashed out anyway, he literally destroyed the field with massa like 20-30 seconds back .
