At about this period, I grew up in a small south Indian (Tamil-Telugu-Malayalam) group around Atlanta. They would have family gatherings around parks, banks and office buildings with food, dance and etc. Also, they would have stage shows with a lot of funny guys. Though they were funny in person when I saw them on video from the VHS, they didn’t come across well. Eddie comes through on bad VHS with stage presence and command.
The James Brown segment is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. I studied this segment at university, even. I played it out to a class of kids who'd never grown up with Eddie Murphy (Gen X), and were on the floors rolling.
