We recommend to keep exchange as pesos for markets, especially taxis etc. Most places accepted usd though change was problem, you may carry 5,10 and 20s as usd. Coco bongo was accepting usd. We asked the taxi cost to our destination before hop in a taxi. We felt safe traveling with taxi, recommend to use taxis that your hotel calls as they maybe more reliable. Taxis around touristic spots were okay too. Hope this helps;)
