Welcome to my channel! My videos mainly focus on anime/manga, tv show reviews, human rights issues around the globe, and other political issues within the U.S. My channel is built on diversity; I don't want anyone to box me in with their expectations.
Hey NerdN! Found this by accident now. Love your take on this. As you I was blown away by the great writing, the constant moral quandries coming up, the character arcs etc.. For me this is one of 3 best TV series ever with a huge gap to anything else (The other is Mr Sunshine from South Korea, and the third one is, well, a guilty pleasure Dragonball). I rewatched it this year for the third time, haha.. If you read this now, hope you are well and thriving!
I know this is super old, but them debating about Luffy being a God and now in 2024 he basically is one... Uber and friends predicted this shit 11 years ago. To be fair though, aren't most Shonen Protagonists overpowered or top tier by the end of their series?
Long Live the greatest era of the RU-vid Anime Community = 2011-2017 And many people from this era are actually on the comment section of this video, WOW
4:34 Im surrprised UH didnt include Sword Art Online (season 1) on that list, since that show was extremely popular in 2012 and this video in from September 2012 Season 1 was airing weekly from early July 2012 till late December 2012
I have watched this video at least 20-30 times over the years and there's one argument I am surprised uber didn't bring up at the time. I know uber tried to attack TheInsaneGameFreak's statements by taking them at face value. But considering his later point on gender expression, during the McDonald's anecdote, how does TheInsaneGameFreak know the worker is homosexual? Did he just assume that because he seemed flamboyant and wore a pink shirt?
Naruto is philosophically on the level of the pokemon games, particularly BW, both attempting to make their fundamental premises seem more nuanced than they actually were, if not actually backpedaling, given the background and development they were afforded. Because it was wrapped in the commentary of “fighting is suffering” it granted itself more emotional support to overcome its philosophical/logistical shortcomings. Obito and most of the other characters were more or less content “being ninjas” on behalf of the Leaf, outside of intentional/overt manipulation. For every situation the character’s like to say they hate killing there are uncountably more where it’s just a fact of life, if not a point of social standing that more or less everyone actively and indirectly supports/feed into. To inherently change that would be to mutate the meaning of being a weapon/solider/ninja on a disingenuous level, you exist on behalf of another to take the actions others either aren’t allowed to or are capable of. As you more or less said, for Obito it was more or less “oh god, why did this happen to me, oh what a cruel world, curse you all”. To argue the solution is understanding those around you, enemies and allies alike, is a childish idealization. Weapon’s do not exist to placate social niceties, in no uncertain terms they exist to enact/enforce one’s will onto another. Sensui who was a capable independent agent was utilized by those around him, being acutely aware of his ideological leanings, without any greater attempt to instruct or even question his standing in the world. True to fact it was his encounter/lesson through Itsuki that on some level opened his eyes to the greater world around him. Koenma directly acknowledges he was aware of Sensui’s ideologic fragility and regardless sent him into a situation he knew he wasn’t ready for outside of the expediency of handling the situation. Sensui’s stance on demons as we saw at the end of Chapter Black was aptly put when he said “I thought if I could see the world through their eyes, be a stranger in a strange land, then maybe I could understand them better, and thus understand myself”. While he wanted recompense for his prior misguided/ill-informed actions towards the demons, regardless of their overt intentions, he ultimately wanted to correct his own misgivings and grow. On the same level Koenma also showed his growth and understanding of his failures by openly acknowledging he chose Yusuke precisely because he wasn’t as steadfast in his world view despite his social persecutions. Whereas with Sensui where he was strictly a employer handing out contracts/jobs, with Yusuke he was a friend/teacher who he actively took responsibility in directing his growth, shown by his statement that all of his authority as Spirit Worlds bureaucrat ended when he failed to prevent the loss of Yusuke, who was fighting a battle that was undoubtedly based on Koenma’s failures. Side note: Sensui used the human psychics precisely because they were expendable and meant to be strategically “killed”/taken out to place the MCs through the same philosophical quandaries he himself went through to challenge their notions of justified actions, “we humans can justify anything, that’s how our corruption begins”.
mike was pushed into a really rough position. I think with Gus, he was in a similar position Walter was. 'You stop working for me, your dead and your familys dead.' Its as simple as that, Gus didnt work with drug addicts because they had nothing to lose and nothing he could leverage over them. Mike wouldnt have an issue with skipping town and getting a new identity, but once his granddaughters funds were threatened, he knew that hed have to stay to build her safety fund again. Yeah, he shouldve still taken his own advice, but the character trait thats the downfall of many of the characters in this show is one Mike has for Jesse... Loyalty
Walter didnt even care about Skyler saying she wanted him to die. He used it as a way to pull Hank further in his direction, but then goes on to say to Skyler she come back around eventually by referencing Jesse... The guy whos girlfriend he murdered and whos stepson he poisoned to pull Jesse back underneath his control... Mike, Skyler and Gus were the only people aware of how dangerous Walt was in how he could spin situations and analysis them
