Thanks for the Tutorial. I have a question if i change the drive does the same ip address also transfer to the new drive? for example my new drive is has completely different ip and i wanted to keep same that i have configured on old drive.

The configured IP address that is set for the original drive will automatically be downloaded to the new drive during the ADC load. The thing to keep in mind is the replacement drive needs to have the same (or higher) firmware revision level as the original drive before ADC can load the parameters. Firmware mismatches can also be handled by using the Firmware Supervisor component of Logix5000. This Logix5000 component stores the original drives firmware in the Logix controller and alleviates the need for ControlFlash.

Automatic Device Configuration will not handle IP address assignment. ADC loads parameters to the drive based on the drive's IP. If the drive does not have an IP assigned, the PLC will not know what parameters to load to the the drive. You need to configure DHCP persistence in the network switch in order to accomplish this. That way, the switch sets the IP based on which switch port the drive is connected to (or which position the drive is in within a Device Level Ring hanging off of the switch). Once the IP is set by the switch, the PLC can begin ADC to load the drive parameters that correspond to that IP address.
