Automatic Device Configuration (ADC) is a feature (in Version 20 of RSLogix 5000 software and Version 21+ of Studio 5000 software) that supports the automatic download of drive configuration data whenever the Logix controller establishes an Ethernet/IP network connection to a PowerFlex 525 drive and its associated peripherals. ADC is available when the PowerFlex 525 drive is connected using either the embedded onboard Ethernet/IP adapter or the Ethernet/IP DLR adapter to a compatible controller; furthermore, the PowerFlex 755 is capable of ADC out of the box, as well as the PowerFlex 753 drive if the Ethernet/IP DLR ENETR adapter is used.
The project and controller contain the parameter settings for any PowerFlex drives in the project. When the project is downloaded to the controller, these settings are also transferred and reside in the PLC memory. ADC automates the drive configuration download process and saves valuable time - particularly in getting a new drive up and running quickly under a drive replacement scenario.

Thanks for the Tutorial. I have a question if i change the drive does the same ip address also transfer to the new drive? for example my new drive is has completely different ip and i wanted to keep same that i have configured on old drive.

The configured IP address that is set for the original drive will automatically be downloaded to the new drive during the ADC load. The thing to keep in mind is the replacement drive needs to have the same (or higher) firmware revision level as the original drive before ADC can load the parameters. Firmware mismatches can also be handled by using the Firmware Supervisor component of Logix5000. This Logix5000 component stores the original drives firmware in the Logix controller and alleviates the need for ControlFlash.

Automatic Device Configuration will not handle IP address assignment. ADC loads parameters to the drive based on the drive's IP. If the drive does not have an IP assigned, the PLC will not know what parameters to load to the the drive. You need to configure DHCP persistence in the network switch in order to accomplish this. That way, the switch sets the IP based on which switch port the drive is connected to (or which position the drive is in within a Device Level Ring hanging off of the switch). Once the IP is set by the switch, the PLC can begin ADC to load the drive parameters that correspond to that IP address.
