I've heard comments from Gene and Paul that Peter wasn't a good drummer but FUCK THAT man. Peter fit KISS like a Glove and added so much to the sound of KISS not only in his drumming but also his amazing vocals. KISS doesn't even exist without Peter or Ace. Paul and Gene REALLY f'ed up when they decided to go DISCO on "Dynasty" (such a HORRIBLE album as compared to the sound of garbage trucks at 6am in the morning :"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!..). The rest is "KISStory". 🖕✊🖕
As a kid growing up in the 70's I am really glad I was not exposed to their true ID's. Seeing KISS without their makeup would have ruined it for me. They wouldn't be KISS anymore.
I have NEVER heard this !! It’s an awesome tune. The vintage KISS photos were amazing. It looked like they were having so much fun at that time. On top of the world. IMO, the early KISS will always be the BEST ! Thanks for the memories you guys !
While Ace, Gene, or Paul look all right, I would have to say Peter is the best-looking "incognito." I can say that because I, myself, am ugly. How ugly? When I was born, the doctor told my parents, "I'M SO SORRY! I DID EVERYTHING I COULD, BUT HE SURVIVED ANYWAY!" Those were his last words before he cut the 'cord and hung himself with it.
1975 : "Mistake" : Recorded at Larabee Studios, Los Angeles. (Noted details by Jeff Suhs) "Mistake" had been written for the first album, but had not been used at the time. The song is an outright country and western ballad in G featuring acoustic guitars bottleneck slides and an overall vibe much more consistent with Wicked Lester than even acoustic offerings like Hard Luck Woman". Recorded at the same sessions as "Rock And Roll All Nite" in California. The fact that Paul sings lead on the verses may indicate that he penned the song though no byline is included on any of the paperwork. Gene clearly shares vocal duties on the verses and on a brief bridge that modulates from G up to B. There are sporadic embellishments throughout that might qualify as a solo though they are such standard licks that it's impossible to determine who is playing them. As it stands it is the earliest demo
"Mistake" should have been released on KISS "Dressed To Kill" with Peter Criss on lead vocals!! Peter Criss had one of the greatest faux British raspy vocal styles similar to Steve Marriott (Small Faces lead vocalist & Humble Pie co lead vocalist) Rod Stewart (The Faces co lead vocalist) Ian Hunter (Mott The Hoople lead vocalist) Michael Des Barres (Silverhead & Detective lead vocalist) Paul Rodgers (Free & Bad Company lead vocalist) Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin lead vocalist) Orignally, Paul Stanley wrote "Hard Luck Woman" for Rod Stewart & Rod Stewart really should have recorded a version of the song cuz it would have been a HUGE HIT for “Rod The Mod” !! Especially when Rod’s solo albums at the time in the mid 70’s we’re becoming increasingly more commercial after he moved to the U.S. and had Stax Records Booker T & The MG’s & The Memphis Horns back him up on his Warner Brothers mid to late 70’s studio albums. Rod’s greatest musical period in The Faces and his earliest solo career running concurrently & the 4 Faces studio albums on Warner Brothers & the 5 solo studio albums on Mercury Records. Anyways, Paul Stanley had Peter Criss sing lead vocals on “Hard Luck Woman” & it also should have been a hit song for KISS coming off the back of the HUGE commercial success of “Beth" power ballad also sung by Peter Criss…
