Only 280-miles range?! That's ridiculous. Thanks for the honest review. All these issues, combined with the V6 engine recall, makes it a "no" for me. Will keep my old 2010 GX460.
Still disappointed they totally omitted family accomodations in the Overtrail models. Not having the option to add a 3rd row and rear climate control is just stupid. There are plenty of families that enjoy the outdoors together. They alienated some folks and pushed them to TRD Pro Sequoias and AT4 Tahoes.
Is there a BRIGHT flashing red light on top of the dash next to the windshield that constantly flashes when the engine is turned off, even if you're sitting inside with the key fob??
Thanks for the honest review! I have a toddler so the 90 degree door swing is a must and live in AZ where it gets to 120 degrees in the summer. I need a excellent AC!
@NorthoftheWallGarage i noticed the air vent “issue” on mine as well. The air barely hits my face while driving unless it’s cranked all the way up! Even when i play around with the settings under the Climate control. Seems like the air system has a mind if it’s one with this model.
Wow. This is insane. I had basically exact same thoughts as you about other vehicles before I put deposit on GX550 Overtrail + a week ago. One small difference- I do not like current GLS and I have old GL, but my wife got GLE53 recently and we LOVE it. lol. I am not alone!!
Highway mpg is supposed to be 21 mpg at 75 mph. That's 441 miles of range. City is supposed to be 15 mpg which is 315. I don't know what you are getting, but for that size of luxury OFF-ROAD vehicle with 349 Horsepower / 479 Pound-Feet, full time AWD vehicle with selectable low range and two lockers and almost 11 inches of ground clearance , I would be more than satisfied with that. If you want more range, easier access for kids, premium HVAC for passengers, GET A MINIVAN, not this.
The smg gets a lot more bad reviews in the US as it has a lower level tune compared to the European spec, it's a great upgrade to any US car. The smg 7 speed ratios are much better suited to the v10 and as you mentioned on manuals 1st and 2nd gears are too tall, the smg does not have that problem, a well sorted smg is a joy to drive. Agree totally your view points on preventative maintenance , the throttle bodies are killed by chatter caused by among other things low battery voltage and lots of modules are so voltage sensitive. Rod bearing are more of a problem as you said with not allowing a warm up and 15k mile oil changed as per Bmw is madness. Had 2005 my m6 smg coupe for 8 years and all it has cost over normal maintenance is one throttle body actuator when I first bought it ( selling garage must of known) and recently a battery..that's it !
i hello im from vietnam,I have an m6 e63, smg is having a problem, when I change gear it has a delay of about 1 second before it switches to the next gear. :(( , In Vietnam there are only about 3 m6 e63s and I don't know what to do with the smg
For the price, this thing is kindof a p.o.s. There is really no good useability. The rear door openings are way too small, the middle seats are too close to the front seats, the rear wheel intrusion is just stupid, the ride quality and handling is trucky and clumsy, it does not have a front bumper, it has a small gas tank, the hood shakes, the engine blows up, and it's a very expensive vehicle. The only thing good is the look.
Most useful review I’ve watched. Thanks you. Am waiting for April/May 2025 to purchase (bonus month) so hopefully these issues are worked out by then 🤞. Including that range!! What the heck?!?!
2 Big Cons: 1. Unreliable V6 engine from the Tundra, hence why these GX550 been held at Long Beach Port for weeks pending Toyota engineer inspection, etc. 2. All the off road goodies only come in top trim with 3rd seat gone! :( Thats it. Other so-so being using smaller engine with turbo with virtually same mpg as V8 version. Thats it! :)
Fellas, if you want a 911 please visit Hennessey Porsche Atlanta. Ask for Scott Hamilton who is a fantastic, knowledgeable and professional sales associate. I specked, ordered and delivered 911 2CS in lest than 10 months. Delivery date was 06/12/2024. BTW, this was my first Porsche! Newby
That’s some good observations man. Not reviewer will tell you this. Also, the spaces after the door is open is very small. For such a huge truck it sucks
I agree with the tank dilemma I also put my money on them just being ready for the hybrid. But definitely an oversight. I get around 600 miles of range on Camry hybrid and going to my friends Tesla that is like 270 or less of realistic range is not acceptable for me.
I also owned a B8 A4. I sold it at 59k miles when it was drinking oil heavily, but thankfully, no timing chain guide failure. The B9 A5 and S5 engines have been considerably more reliable.
I got this car, SMG version all the way from 23000 km to 65000 km . Sold it , just cause kids were coming into equation . Cried back then. Looking forward to include it again in my garage. This thing is a rarity anymore and prices will only go North. Nothing comes close to this experience from BMW, anything newer is faster, more reliable, more efficient indeed. You don't get the experience.
