Great vid, thanks for sharing.. I've got an '05 CDI with 238k on it, these great cars indeed. Quick tip - to avoid the chaos of jacking up and having to remove the belly pan, I'd highly recommend getting a fluid extractor (make sure you get one large enough to hold the 8 quarts of oil). It'll save you quite a bit of hassle and time.

Two things. First, all modern Mercedes are manufactured to have the oil suctioned out through the dipstick tube which extendes to within a fraction of the bottom of the oil pan; I made an extractor out of a 5 gal bucket powered with a vacuum cleaner; works like a charm and much quicker and cleaner than pulling the drain plug. Or you can buy a hand pump extractor that also works quite well. In either case, there's no need to extend the drain tubing all the way into the sump; you can make adapters from plastic tubing that will fit snugly over or inside the top of the diptstick tube for an easier and cleaner operation. Second, you'll find it much easier to add the new oil through the filter housing as it flows much more easily into the sump than through the head. Much less likely to have it overflow and make a mess.

Ooooh an actual CDI and not a bluetec! You know your cars ! I have had 2 e320 CDI. Bought both at auction (I’m a dealer) both were new Mercedes trade ins. I bought both to keep. But only managed to keep both about 6 mos because someone ALWAYS talked me out of them for double my money. Ugh. I still plan to get another and hide it. Such torque monsters. Excellent fuel economy. And FAST. Probably as good on the interstate as your M6 Haha 😂

Love to hear it! I really need to get a hobby dealer license in my state.. that’s separate conversation haha. Thee really are amazing cars and so stable at speed. Sad that there’s nothing new really like them - simple, efficient, solidly built. Need to grab a headliner for mine and refinish the stock wheels but I love it. Best $6700 I ever spent!

I’ve got a 320cdi sport V6, 2009 version. Done around 167,000 miles. It had a minor leak from the oil cooler recently and some corrosion on a brake line, but other than that, it’s been pretty reliable. l love the shape of the car - comfortable and relaxing to drive. I plan on keeping it, and I make sure to have it properly maintained. Enjoy your car!

Completely agree! This things are hidden gems… hasn’t given me much trouble at all and is a backup family car. Enjoy yours as well!

Check the oil leak, not coming from the oil cooler, are oil leak from gaskets from the admission/turbo and the oil land in the oil cooler. You can check videos about this problem, its a problem tipically in the V6 diesel w211 and w219.

Never had to torque the oil filter housing. Just tightened it til it felt tight. Never had an issue and now the car has 205k and still purrs like a kitten.

Great in-depth video, thanks! I have been looking for a CDI for a while, I prefer to buy locally. I found one with 87k miles on it, however, it has a sketchy history. It was owned by "the little old lady" from new, then was traded in at a local dealer. A sales guy at the dealer bought it and is trying to flip it. I was able to track down full service history back to 2007 (current owner doesn't have it), but there is a 4yr gap from 2019 to today. During this gap the car has only gone 1800 miles. It is currently newly state inspected. Question is, would you take the risk and buy it? What would you offer? Clearly the car has been sitting, some evidence of rodents, some minor body damage, tires and rims are shot. Guy is asking north of $10k, down from the initial ask. I was able to take it on a short test drive at low speed, check engine light and brake service light showing. I was not allowed to removed the engine cover (owner not present) but did notice some oil on side of head. I suspect a leaking injector, but cannot tell extent of "black death". Interested on thoughts!

Sorry for the late response! Depends I think on what you’re going to use the car for.. if you can stomach gambling on its history as it’s an extra car, go for it! If it’s going to be your primary transportation, might be worth finding one with a better documented history

Great work. Why would you want to replace drain bolt when copper washer is enough?
@JayMaverick
@JayMaverick 8 месяцев назад
If the bolt is clean and threads are clean, there's no reason to replace it. I replace the bolt during every 2-3 oil changes because I don't want to risk stripping the threads on the oil pan. Small price to pay to reduce risk.

I own two one at 360K anr one at almost 300k. Not sure why you use 30 weight oil instead of 40 weight on pre emission diesel.

Put the used oil into your tank. Diesels can run off used oil

Do not do this with a CDI. W123/w124 could probably take it

You have to filter it, i could put it in my 12v Cummins though 👍🏻

While you have the beauty cover off, remove the sound absorption strip off the injectors and visually look for any black carbon blow-by leaking out from the injector seats. You will see filth under the foam pad and pooling into the injector cavities. The worst case scenario is “black death”. Fixable, but a real journey into hell.

Aware of the Black Death but this is a great tip for regular maintenance checks. Thank you!
